Broad Ripple Park offers a number of amenities including a playground, picnic shelters, tennis courts, a baseball diamond, White River observation deck, fitness trails, dog park, and White River boat ramp. The Broad Ripple Park Family Center offers a wide variety of programs, classes, and events that interest people of all ages. Indy in Motion Indy in Motion presents a total fitness and health program initiative through the Marion County Health Department. There will be incentive awards for regular participation in the fitness activities. For additional information, call the Marion County Health Department at 221-3122. Marion County Health Department and the National Institute for Fitness and Sport sponsor these FREE classes for fitness. A NIFS instructor will be here waiting to get you into the fitness mind frame. This fall, the Garfield Park Arts Center is teaming-up with Broad Ripple Park to bring fun, hands-on art activities to your community. Families can explore an engaging activity in the performance, visual and language arts while working closely with a professional artist and Arts Center staff. Just like the rainbow our youngest artists will create in the month of September, we will cover a colorful and pattern-rich spectrum of subjects. We’ll soak in the warm colors of the sun as we draw a radiating sun face and we’ll be careful not to get tangled up in our patterned spider web we draw in October! Learn about Native American culture through a detailed tepee we’ll draw in November, and celebrate the coming of the winter months with a nutcracker that takes his job seriously. We’ll draw these (and many more exciting lessons!) while we enhance our fine-motor skills, learn to stay on task and follow directions, and learn skills that are critical in the classroom! Through numerous activities (yoga poses, breathing techniques, noncompetitive games, relaxation, etc) children are able to enjoy and cultivate the many benefits of yoga. The practice of yoga promotes self-esteem and confidence, increases strength, flexibility and balance, improves focus and attention, and cultivates respect of self and others. This is just to name a few of the motor, cognitive and emotional skills yoga will help develop. This class focuses on the major aspects of cheer, including basic motions, cheers/chants, jumps/kicks and dance. Basic tumbling will be taught in this class. Skills developed include batting, catching, running, and teamwork. Classes include warm-up exercises, rules of the game, and drills and skills. Participants also play a fun game to reinforce what they have learned. Please bring own water bottle and mitt. Together, you and your child will experience beginning tumbling, body positioning, beam, bars, and vaulting techniques. This class will introduce your child to some structure activities and learning how to follow instructions. AQUATICS HEALTH AND SAFETY GUIDELINES • Indy Parks and Recreation Aquatic Facilities are family facilities: No inappropriate behavior, language or swimwear. No undergarments or street clothes may be used as swimwear. • Children under the age of 9 years must be accompanied in the water, by an adult, and be within arms reach of the adult at all times. • Only properly fitting U.S. Coast Guard approved lifejackets are permitted. Do not bring any other type of flotation device into the facility. • No food, drinks, gum, coolers or glass items are allowed inside the pool area. • Children who are not toilet trained must wear either a swim diaper or tight fitting plastic pants with elastic legs and waist. • Indy Parks and Recreation reserves the right to limit admissions or close at any time.
