Nord-Kina Manchuriet, ”Happy Island” og NØ-Tibet 03.05 – 27.05 2009 DOF-Travel Dansk Ornitologisk Forening Birdlife Denmark Jan Hjort Christensen og Jesper Hornskov 1 Jan Hjort Christensen DOF-Travel Forord Under min forrige tur til Kina, hvor jeg bl.a. besøgte Manchuriet og den kinesiske nordøstkyst, blev jeg inspireret af de store mængder trækfugle og variationen af østasiatiske rariteter, til at forsøge at lave en DOF-tur. Intentionen var, at man på nogle få uger kunne se næsten alle de arter, som man går og sukker efter på en kold efterårsdag i Danmark. Yderligere ville vi forsøge at tilføre en smagsprøve på, hvad det indre Kina har at byde på, så derfor blev det også muligt at tilvælge en ekstra uge på det tibetanske plateau. I tæt samarbejde med Jesper fik jeg strikket en tur sammen som både ville give et bredt udvalg af østasiatiske trækgæster og en mængde kinesiske specialiteter. Vi synes selv, det lykkedes ganske godt. Vi er begge glade for at turdeltagerne valgte at tro på dette koncept, og med stort engagement og indlevelse gjorde turen til en stor oplevelse for ikke mindst dem selv, men også for Jesper og jeg. Alle takkes for bidrag og medvirken til at vi også på det ornitologiske plan kom i mål med en lang artsliste. Maj - Afgang København Afrejse fra Københavns Lufthavn. Alle mødte forventningsfulde OG til aftalt tid... Indcheckning og rejse forløb planmæssigt uden de store genvordigheder. 4. Maj - Ankomst Beijing Vi ankom midt på dagen til Beijing, Kinas hovedstad. Efter at være blevet ”checket” for svineinfluenza af de kinesiske myndigheder, kunne vi alle gå gennem tolden og finde Jesper, der stod udenfor afventende vores ankomst. Fra lufthavnen tog vi direkte til hotellet, og efter en kort reorganisering var vi alle klar til en tur i botanisk have. Det blev til nogle gode timer, hvor de første arter blev noteret. Botanisk Have, Beijing Vel tilbage på hotellet blev der lidt tid til at soignere sig, inden turen gik til en nærliggende restaurant for indtage et velfortjent aftensmåltid. For enkelte var det første gang med kinesisk ”bestik” – lidt af en udfordring, men det gik. Obs. Eurasian Red Squirrel 1. 5. Maj – ”Wild Duck Lake” og afrejse fra Beijing med tog til Manchuriet Tidlig morgen klokken ca. 05.00, og inden morgenmaden, drog vi afsted til ”Wild Duck Lake”. Turen derud i minibusser var en oplevelse i sig selv: Med fabelagtige manøvrer snoede chaufførerne sig udenom og indenom store lastbiler, og efter knap et par timers slalomkørsel nåede vi søbredden, hvor vi indtog vores medbragte morgenmad. Der var mange højdepunkter, men de to Reliktmåger var allerbedst – de sås kanongodt, havde gang i lidt parringsspil, og fløj et par æresrunder. Efter aftensmaden steg vi på toget, og på 1. klasse med fire m/k per kupé var det såmænd ikke så ringe! Momoge Reserve Vi ankom til Zhenlai lidt før middag, checkede ind på hotellet, fik en skål hurtige nudler rundt om hjørnet, og så afsted-afsted til Momoge Reservatet i håb om at tranerne, som Jesper havde set knap en uge tidligere, stod der endnu. Maj - Zhenlai, Tumuji og Momoge Reserve Ikke noget med at sove længe! Det lysnede allerede klokken 03.45... Vinden havde delvist lagt sig, og det var blevet klart og relativt lunt. Der var derfor tidlig afgang til Tumuji i håb om Jankowski’s Bunting m.m. Heldet var i den grad med os, for efter lang og intens eftersøgning lykkedes det at finde en enkelt syngende han, måske var det sidste vers den sang? Obs. Mongolian Lark Jankowski’s Bunting For variationens skyld spiste vi nudler til frokost – som stamkunder rundt om hjørnet fik vi en gratis tallerkenfuld udbenede hønsefødder i godt med chili. Hatten af for det meste holdet, som høfligt smagte på delikatessen. Vi mente ikke, at vi havde fået det hele med omkring traneengene – og det var rigtigt! Vi tog derfor endnu en tur ud til engene og havde en fantastisk stemningsfuld eftermiddag og aften med kaldende traner og gæs. Obs. Opdagelsen af 5 stk. spillende Baer´s Pochards var i den grad en bonus, som vi knap havde turdet tro på fra start. Obs. Hotellet, som vi skulle bo på under resten af Manchuriet-delen havde ikke helt så mange stjerner… Til gengæld var haven en fin fuglelokalitet, vi lagde ud med Chinese Hill Warbler, og bredden af et af de store vådområder, som udgør reservatet, lå indenfor magelig spadsereafstand. Maj - Xianghai Reserve Front med regn og rusk. Vi ville have været afsted meget tidligt til en ny lokalitet, men vejret nedlagde veto. Inden det blev lyst var det umuligt at vurdere, om det evt. ville klare op. Det gjorde det dog allerede inden solopgang – fint fald af fugle! Det blev til en fabelagtig dag med masser ande-, vade- og småfugle. Regn og rusk er ikke altid af det dårlige! Siberian Rubythroat Obs. Efter morgenmaden en hurtig obs. ved dæmningen for at se på vadere, og minsandten om ikke de længe eftersøgte Oriental Storks dukkede op ud af den blå luft – fantastisk. Derefter ud til det fjerneste hjørne af reservatet indtil midt på eftermiddagen… For hurtigpakkerne blev det til en sidste runde i haven inden afgang. 11 Jan Hjort Christensen DOF-Travel Obs. Maj - Ankomst til “Happy Island” Vi ankom til kystbyen Qinghuangdao ved halv ti-tiden. En bus stod klar og via Beidaihe - hvor der blev handlet - gik det videre mod Happy Island. Den ’gamle’ vej var stadig lukket, men lidt improvisation gav alligevel succes med Dværgspove (Little Curlew) – tingeling! Jens, Jon og Svend på båden til ”Happy Island” Frokost inden afgang med båden... Efter overfarten blev vi afhentet af de golfvogne, som vi i løbet af de næste dage fik flere ture i. Den lokale pigegarde kunne ikke komme, men en flot kage blev det da til (det havde vor hjælpsomme lokale ’minder’ klaret), og luften i den store spisesal var tyk af bevingede ord og ønsker om ’many happy returns of the day’. Og jo da, vi så også et par fugle! Dagens superhit var en Vestlig Stor Kobbersneppe (den man kender fra Danmark og omegn) flyvende nok så pædagogisk med 20 Østlige Store Kobbersnepper... - det giver åbenbart bedre mening at betragte dem som forskellige arter end racer, og det var, så vidt vi ved, første iagttagelse af den vestlige her på kysten. Klart i erindringen står også 2 Tornhalesejlere der kastede sig rundt i vinden over øen lige efter morgenmaden. God dag! Maj – Den Kinesiske Mur ved Shanhaiguan og ankomst Beijing Efter en god nats søvn besøgte vi den Kinesiske Mur ved Shanhaiguan, kun en times kørsel nord for Beidaihe. Udover at kigge på selve ”Muren”, hvor den forsvinder ind over bjergene på vej mod nord væk fra det flade kystområde, brugte vi tid på at se Vinous-throated Parrotbill, Pere David`s Laughingthrush, Godlewski`s og Meadow Bunting, Chinese Hill Warbler og Alm. Fasan - alle vigtige arter som vi ikke kunne regne med at se andre steder på turen. Vinden var nok ikke helt perfekt, men vi fik da set lidt rovfugletræk alligevel. Vi satte et roligt tempo, og efter en kort vandring ad en ikke-restaureret del af Muren - samt et kig på det lokale tempel - tog nogle stoleliften , mens andre gik ned. Herpå fortsatte vi mod Beijing i bussen. Obs. Det blev til en Toyota-buffet à la carte morgenmad, inden vi for alvor gik i felten. Området bød på gran- og birkeskov, samt havtorne(-agtigt) krat med omkransende marker anlagt på små ”terrasser”. Gansu Leaf Warbler var dagens ’denSKAL-vi-altså se!’-art. Den er først for ganske nyligt blevet accepteret som selvstændig art, og dens vinterkvarter er endnu ukendt. Maj - Koko Nor mod vest til Chaka via Rubber Mountains Der var igen tidlig afgang, og de fleste af os døsede vist videre i mørket, mens bilerne kørte ud af Xinings gader og videre mod vest. På vejen lavede vi flere pattedyrs stop for bl.a. at kigge på Tibetan og Goitered Gazelle på stepperne og Blue Sheep på de stejle bjergsider. Det blev også til Kiang - ”vild æsel” - og under det sidste stop inden det gik opad, spottede Jon en ulv; den luntede stille og roligt over steppen og kunne følges i lang tid - ganske vist på nogen afstand men alligevel en rigtig fin obs. Maj - Chaka og omegn En knap så tidlig start på dagen ;-) Vi kørte ud på steppen nær byen og indtog endnu en fin gang Toyota Buffet. Fantastisk fine obs. af Blanford´s Snowfinch der røg ud og ind af forskellige pika huller, og sidst men ikke mindst fine obs. af en både flyvende, trykkende og spadserende ”steppehane”. Efter en tur ud i ørkenterrænet fortsatte vi i poppellunden ved en tidligere arbejdslejr. Her var en Tiger Shrike en stor overraskelse og vel langt vestpå. Frokosten blev indtaget på hotellet, og vi tog os tid til en kort slapper, inden vi prøvede en ny dal – her lykkedes det os ikke at finde Mongolian Trumpeter Finch. Maj - Rubber Mountains og ankomst Xining Tidlig start tilbage mod Rubber Mountains. De sidste dråber faldt mens vi pakkede bilerne, og der var sne i passet. Mange fugle havde søgt ned til vejen og var meget tillidsfulde, hvilket gav gode obs. og billeder! En lang dag med køreturen tilbage til Xining sluttede med aftensmad på hotellet samt øl og hyggelig small talk i et hotellets konference lokaler - endnu en god dag var til ende. 31 Jan Hjort Christensen DOF-Travel 25. Maj - Laoye Shan og fly tilbage til Beijing Efter en god nats søvn var vi klar til turen op til Laoye Shan. Der var ret mange fugle! Efter turens sidste Toyota Buffet nød vi bl.a. en Murløber, og ved templet fandt vi et herligt sted, med mulighed for te-pause (en lokal afart med diverse stykker frugt og grønt flydende i tyk sukkerlage – YUM!). En aluminiumsfabrik stod for røg og damp nede i dalen – hvis der er nogen der abonnerer på Newsweek, har de set fabrikken på forsiden af det nummer, der havde en lang artikel om luftforurening i Kina... Over middag gik turen til lufthavnen, hvor vi indtog en gang melon, inden vi fløj tilbage til Beijing. Rufous-breasted Accentor Obs. Maj - Ibisbill og sightseeing Beijing. Tidlig afgang for de frivillige på Ibisbill-holdet, mens andre sov længe og havde tid til at nyde morgenmaden på hotellet. 32 Jan Hjort Christensen DOF-Travel Ibisbill Turistgruppen startede ved det olympiske stadion Fuglereden inden de begav sig til Sommerpaladset under kyndig guidning fra Jesper og Aiqin. Ved Lamatemplet stødte Ibisbil-holdet til efter en yderst vellykket formiddag med Ibisbill , Crested Kingfisher , Brown Dipper m.m.m. Derefter gik det slag i slag med Den Himmelske Freds Plads, Den Forbudte By, og vi sluttede i ”Friendship Store”, den gamle dollarbutik, som stadig kan byde på nogle kinesiske kvalitetsprodukter og souvenirs, men ikke er helt det samme som den var i ”gamle dage”. Vi samledes på en udsøgt kinesisk restaurant lidt fra hotellet til en sidste gang kinesisk overflødighedshorn af mad. Vi kunne tænke tilbage på godt 3 ugers fugleoplevelser med meget mere i det uforglemmelige Kina som Jørgen, Jesper og jeg selv forsøgte at sætte ord på. Vi hævede armen og skyllede efter med lidt af den lokale kinesiske brændevin og en enkelt øl, for til sidst at slutte med et par drinks i baren. Tak for en god tur ! Obs.
