Slowly the grey clouds of winter will part
and we will become reacquainted with the
beautiful days of spring on Camano. In
this newsletter you will find several small
reminders that will help make the coming
weeks safe, productive, and enjoyable for
all of our students.

Parking Lot Speed Limit
Be reminded that the speed limit entering
and exiting the parking lot here at Elger
Bay is posted at 5 m.p.h. We have had a
few near misses between cars and people
in our parking lot before and after school.
I have asked the Island County Sheriff to
come onto our parking lot property and
help me monitor everyone's driving speed.
Please help everyone out by arriving in
the morning with plenty of time so that
you do not have to rush...and keeping in
mind at the end of the day that everyone's
safety is most important, even as you head
off to fun family activities.

participated in this program where
students watched a presentation by Ms.
Annie Singletary of CADA (Communities
Against Domestic Abuse). The program is
called "Hands and Words" and was
developed to help students learn skills to
effectively deal with bullying and help
prevent violence in general. The goal of the
program is to have students pledge that
they will not use their hands and words to
hurt others. A great message we hope can
be reinforced by all of us.
Spring Conferences
Spring conferences will be coming up right
before Spring Break on April 2, 3, and 4.
Some staff may even begin their
conferences a few days before that in order
to offer better times for the families to
meet with them. The bottom line is that
this window is meant as a more formal
opportunity for you and your child's
teacher to review their progress to date and
set in motion plans for finishing strong.
Watch for sign up sheets that should be
coming home in the next couple of days.

Math & Reading Night is going to be a blast for the whole family! Our theme is “Seuss Olympics” featuring fun activities for every skill level. Try “How Many Colors Can I Hula?” or “Truffela Tree Catapult.” Turn in your Seuss Olympics’ Dollar for a free gently used book. Make a guesstimate for a chance to win a gallon of yummy candy! Be sure to be here on time for the free chili dinner provided by our wonderful PTA. Whether you “Fish for Red Fish Blue Fish” or try the “Oh The Places You’ll Go Obstacle Course” you’re sure to have a fun-­‐filled family night. Special thanks to DeAnn Larson for once again going above and beyond to make sure this annual event is one to remember. Read Across America (RAA) is an annual
event celebrating and promoting reading
across our nation. Elger Bay began fun
activities Monday with “Oh The Places You
Will Go” and “Did I Ever Tell You How
Lucky You Are?” Students were encouraged
to begin a 7 day read-a-thon with a chance to
win an I-Pod Shuffle. This year’s theme is
“Seuss Olympics” with our annual Math &
Reading Night included in the festivities
(see front page for details). Tuesday students
and staff wore socks in crazy ways and
Wednesday teachers allowed class time to
create a bookmark for a chance to have it
Missoula Children’s
Theatre
Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) will be
back for another week of amazing fun! This
year MCT will be presenting a twist on the
classic tale “Treasure Island.” Try outs,
rehearsals will begin on March 31st with two
full production shows on Saturday, April 5th.

Thursday students can come to school
with crazy hair and/or hats and continue
the fun with a free family dinner and
games night at the “Seuss Olympics”.
Friday we will finish out the week’s
activities with Pajama Day – come as you
are in your comfy PJ’s and bring a blanket
if you wish to cuddle up and read at times
throughout the day.
More wonderful
activities are planned for April, including a
chance to earn AquaSox prizes and a new
bicycle! Stay tuned for more information
to be sent home and posted online.
“These Are a Few
Of My Favorite Sings”
1st, 2nd, & 3rd Graders performed a collection
of their favorite musical pieces in a
wonderful concert Wednesday. 5th grade
student, Chandler Long accompanied the 1st
& 2nd graders for the African American
Spiritual, All Night, All Day, on his guitar.
Many of the students were also chosen to
play solos on the Orff instruments.
Haggen’s is once again offering their School Bucks program. You can go online to link your
card to Elger Bay Elementary and a portion of your purchase will be donated to the school.

Highly Capable Nominations for 2014-2015
Stanwood-Camano School District
The
Stanwood-Camano
School
District offers a Highly Capable
Program for exceptionally advanced
learners in Reading and Math. The
district will be serving students in
grades K-12 beginning in the 20142015 school year.
Committee screens all nominations.
Students meeting the screening
criteria will be tested to determine
eligibility for program services.
Assessment of nominated students
is scheduled to take place from
April 21 – 25, 2014.
Nominations will be accepted for
students currently in Kindergarten
through 11th grade. Nomination
packets may be obtained from the
building secretaries, the district
office, or the district website
beginning March 10, 2014 and are
due to the Curriculum Office by April
4, 2014.

tonight? Well, you’re in luck! Sahara
Pizza delivers to the entire island! If you
order on Thursday, March 20th,
Thursday, April 17th, or Thursday, May
22nd and tell them you’re an Elger Bay
supporter a portion will be donated to
EBE! Watch for fliers to be sent home
and Sahara will put up a banner at the
school to remind you, “It’s pizza night!”
