Welcome… Welcome to the Williamsburg International Film Festival. From features to shorts, documentaries to animation, student films to foreign films, we are excited to present creative stories from both emerging and experienced filmmakers. We open this year’s festival with a World Premiere: The feature film Last Pickup; in which, the good, the bad, and the not-so-well intentioned collide. Films can provide a portal to a new world: What would you do if you lost your job on a coin toss? In the heartwarming, New York Premiere feature, Well Wishes, a dreamer pursues fortune, enlightenment and love in America. In the New York Premiere of the feature Selfie a psychologist investigates a “Selfie Serial Killer!” A teenage girl uses social media to run a revolution, in the doc feature #ChicagoGirl. A man attempts to track down his “first love” only to discover… the shock you will see in the New York Premiere feature Keep in Touch. Experience a variation of the 17th century philosopher Rene Descartes’ view of the world in Without a Doubt. And enjoy a rhyming ghost story in W, and a poetic moody one in Winter’s Hold. Films help us to better understand the world we live in: In the short film Family on Board a man on his way to prison reflects on his life; and in another short Marvin a young man being released contemplates revenge or forgiveness. In the World Premiere of Treatment a bank teller is willing to do the unthinkable to save his mom from a terminal illness. Films are a part of our history: A century ago Paris set the pace for the art world; today, New York is where art careers are launched. What caused this shift? This is just one of the questions explored in the NY Premiere of the feature documentary Opening. Films are a part of our culture: Check out; women seeking love in The Single Ladies of NY; steam punk in Steam Dream; bullying in Irreparable Damage; baby obsession in Mine; and overcoming disabilities in Powerful Medicine: Simply Magic. Films are a part of who we are: Four young people of different races and genders struggle for a brighter future in The Hope of a Nation; a marriage is in peril in Appreciation; so are soccer moms in Soccer Moms in Peril; as well as Christians in Mountain of Servants. May we never forget the pure beauty of films to entertain, educate and enlighten. I encourage you to stick around after each screening. We have several local filmmakers, as well as those traveling from around the world, who will be present to discuss their films with the audience in a Q&A session at the end of each program. In addition to films, we've thrown in music videos, panels and parties to provide you with a funfilled weekend to fuel your creativity and ignite your imagination. Planning a festival is a major undertaking and although there are many people to thank; I first wish to acknowledge the entire Programming Department for all their sincere hard work. I also wish to thank the festival founders Michael Helman and Robin Adams, and also Stella McGovern. The festival is a testament to their ability to transfer enthusiasm and their power of persistence. Lastly, my biggest thanks are for our audience, this festival is for you. What are some of the pitfalls? This panel features emerging writers/directors, including Jim Malone, who will speak candidly about their experiences for your benefit. FEATURED PANEL Moderator: Joanna White-Oldham is a Writer/Director/Producer and the founder of the Center for Active Learning. Her first short film, CoCo, is an official selection of the 2015 International Black Women's Film Festival. Please check our website at http://willifest.com/2015/panels for updated information on panels and panelists. A dynamic performer, actress and spokesmodel with distinctive style and quick wit, Africa Miranda won the hearts of many across the US and around the globe as the breakout star of Bravo TV’s The New Atlanta. Fans fell in love with her witty personality and of course her fabulous head of hair, but also her down to earth girl next-door appeal. On The New Atlanta, Africa was shown developing her multiple projects, juggling the demands of her growing career and navigating the delicate balance between ambition and success versus love and relationships. Viewers immediately picked up that she is a fast talker, with a dry sense of humor. She is cerebral, and says: “I’m always in my feelings,” willing to show her fears, struggles, successes or failures. After appearing on The New Atlanta, Africa was named the first ever Brand Ambassador for international hair care company Creme of Nature. Having already been the face of their previous Argan Oil from Morocco campaign, the brand recognized Africa’s connection with their consumers and felt she was a perfect fit. As Brand Ambassador she represented the company in various capacities including special appearances, hosting social media chats, and speaking at events and on panels. Email: james_j_hsiao@yahoo.com All Things Chicken music by Ben Wise In a figurative wasteland, two guys are so stuck in their lives that they must pass the time by talking about profound things in profoundly foolish ways. “All Things Chicken” is both a comedy drama about how NOT to live one's life, yet also a paean to the saving grace of friendship. Hailing from the humble outskirts of Greensboro, NC, Wise's musical journey began before he can even remember, having a mother who taught piano and a father who was a high school band instructor. Dropping out of college in his early 20’s to enroll in an audio engineering program in New York City was the best decision he could've made. While he also moved northward to front a band, he was more focused on a less dicey future working in recording studios. He began co-writing with some of the staff composers. It was an entry into the world of composing, if in the most bizarrely unimaginable way; from punk rocker to jingle writer. He continues to chart his own path bringing a fresh approach to whatever he works on, whether it’s a :15 commercial, a 4-minute song or a 40-minute film. Wise continues to record albums and gig with his solo project and indie/folk band TINY goliath. Email: benergy@me.com 1 For 2 music by Tin Ho Man Email: hmtmusic@gmail.com Old Days music by The Atomik Age Project Email: wildduck168@gmail.com The Atomik Age Project is a labor of love by a group of lifelong friends whose talents and energies focus on keeping shared memories alive. The group has been honored with the "Best Pop Soundtrack" award at the 2008 Staten Island Directors Chair Film Festival for "Wild One" (a Marlon Brando tribute film) and in 2014 at the Garden State Film Festival for "4 Ever Fab" (a Beatles tribute film). All films are co-produced and directed by band members Phil Curcuru, Jim Ceribello, and Lou DiNatale. The Atomik Age Project members are: Jim Ceribello, lead vocals; Lou DiNatale, keyboards; Christina Dempsey, vocals; Mike Micara, drums; Roger Fiorentino, bass; Stu Seiderman, sax; Bob Aniano, guitar; Dan Giangiobbe, vocals; Phil Curcuru, guitar.
