About Strathmore
Strathmore is a town located along the Trans-Canada Highway, 40 kilometres (25 miles ) east of the city of Calgary,
within the boundaries of Wheatland County (which is a municipal district in south-central Alberta). Strathmore is
part of the Wild Rose Region and many residents and business owners choose to locate in the Region because of the
safety and security of small town living.
Despite favourable economic growth, it is still very affordable to buy a home and live in Strathmore.
In 2007, Strathmore had a population of 11,102 living in 4,431 dwellings, a 7.41% increase from 2006. Strathmore
provides residents with the benefits of country living with easy access to large city facilities.
The town began as a hamlet for the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) lines that were built in the area in 1883. In
1905, the CPR moved the hamlet of Strathmore four miles north to its current location. The CPR railroad tracks are
now gone.
Today, the town is an important agricultural community. Oil and gas exploration is also a growing interest in the area.
It is the headquarters of the Golden Hills School Division. Many commute daily from Strathmore to Calgary. Over
the past three years the town has seen a major growth in commercial development.

Shopping
Strathmore has an old High Street, which perhaps needs a little investment. The High Street has a small Sears, Home
Hardware, Post Office, Co-Op, Royal Bank of Canada and a number of smaller shops. The Strathmore Hotel is also on
the High Street, but is currently boarded up.

Restaurants
Strathmore has a large number of fast food places and lower end restaurants
such as; KFC, Dairy Queen, Subway , A&W, Domino’s Pizza, Happy Land
Family Restaurant, Smittys etc. We did not see any of the more upmarket
restaurant chains such as The Keg or Earls.
Chinese Restaurant down High Street
The Strathmore Station Restaurant and Pub was
very popular on Sunday afternoon.
