Our Program
The Strathmore Wheatland Kings organization prides ourselves on offering players a first-class Junior B hockey
experience. Our organization provides a wide range of resources that we believe are above and beyond what many other
Junior B programs offer. Playing junior in Strathmore is an experience unlike any other in the Heritage Junior Hockey
League. Kings’ fans have earned a reputation for being loyal and passionate. The Strathmore Twin Arena has become
both the most feared arena for opponents to play in while being the most fun and exhilarating for the home team. Our
Coaches, Organization and Community place a high value on character, commitment, and accountability, while we all
work together towards our collective goal of capturing the HJHL Arnusch Championship trophy.
Below is a summary of the first-class benefits and development opportunities that players are offered from the
Strathmore Wheatland Kings Hockey Club:
• Professional Coaching and on-ice/ off-ice training
• Quality hockey
• Custom dressing room coming 2015-2016 season
• Set practice ice times, which will help the athlete
organize their study and or work schedule.
• Equipment manager as well as a Certified Trainer.
• Quality brand name, including helmet/visor,

• DVSport Video Program, to review & assist players
in development and hockey instruction.
• StatsGuy™ Reports - Advanced stats, give away /

Junior B leagues.
• Home Ice Advantage of 300 to 500 fans per game;
Players play in front of a spirited fan base.

practices, participate in the annual Heritage Day Parade,
as well as other community minded initiatives.

History is made
The Strathmore Wheatland Kings
swept their way through the
first round of HJHL playoffs last
weekend by beating the Medicine Hat Cubs two games to
zero in the best of three series.
The Kings took the first game in
Medicine Hat 4-2 on Friday the
13th and the second at the Family Centre on Valentine’s Day by a
score of 2-1. This is a milestone
for the Kings as it is the first time
in franchise history they have
played through to the second
round of playoff hockey.

“The third factor was shot blocking, I
saw a real commitment of getting in the
shooting lanes and sacrificing the body
for the greater good.”
The Kings will now move on to face
the Coaldale Copperheads in Round 2
and know that they will have to stay focused and disciplined if they want to
win the seven game series.
“I think a lot of people would say
we’re underdogs going into the series.
We’re fine with that – it’s not going to
be the Kings being happy to be in the
South Division semi-final,” said Blumes.
“We see what we’re capable of when we
put our mind to it and approach the series against Coaldale with passion, discipline and focus.”
The boys know that they have to keep
up their compete level as it will be a
lengthy seven game series.
“It’s going to be a battle, when you’re
playing seven games in 10 days, it’s
going to be a war and the team that’s
better conditioned and taking care of
things away from the rink, I’m going to
like our chances,” said Blumes.
Game 2 versus the Cubs saw one of
the higher attendances of the season,
and the Kings want the crowds to keep
coming out throughout the postseason.
Round 2 began Feb. 18 in Coaldale
(result not available as of press time)
with Game 2 will be back in Strathmore
on Feb. 20 at 8 p.m.

Coach’s Message
The Wheatland Kings returned for the 2014-15 season, after a one season sabbatical from the Heritage League. We put
together a good team and learned many valuable lessons along the way. I believe we are poised to take the next step in
our teams evolution. We are looking for players with ability and character. As the Head Coach I believe I have two very
simple objectives:
1. Player & Team Development: To coach players’ development and aid them in improving their skill set as well as
their citizenship. Also, to create a team environment where all members understand their role in our success. We will
accomplish these goals by establishing a level for our expectations, holding players accountable for their actions, and
rewarding and disciplining players in accordance with the situation.
2. Win the HJHL Arnusch Championship trophy: I believe if we are diligent in our approach with objective number 1,
objective number 2 will be the fortuitous by-product.
One of the critical tasks before us is player identification. This is why you find this document in your hands today. As the
head coach, I am looking for competitive, intelligent, skilled players with strong character. I firmly believe the primary
strength of our success will be the players who represent our team. Our decisions will be based on your capabilities and
performance. All ice time and roles will be earned from the start of our Conditioning camp that opens on August 17, 2015.
There are opportunities to play large roles within our team, it is up to you to earn those roles.
I believe a balanced team is a difficult team to defend
against. We are not looking for 23 identical players, nor are
we looking for the 23 most technically skilled players. We
are looking for the right players.
The Kings will be skilled, intelligent, disciplined, and always
hard to play against. As well with the cooperation of our
veteran leadership group, we will create an environment
where we all have fun and enjoy coming to the rink each
day. I look forward to meeting you and being a part of your
ongoing development.

The Strathmore Wheatland Kings, a proud member of the Heritage Junior Hockey League (HJHL), would like to
congratulate you on your past season!
The Kings’ Staff have identified you as a player with the necessary commitment, ability, and
character and would like to extend to you an INVITATION to our Summer

at the Strathmore Twin Arena, located at 160 Brent Blvd, Strathmore, AB T1P 1E9.
Players please register online at: www.wheatlandkings.com
and click on the “2015 Summer Conditioning Camp” link at the centre of the page.
This camp is for players who are eager to earn a spot on the Kings, while also serving as an opportunity to prepare
for other camps and tryouts later in August and September. The Camp allows the Kings’ Coaching staff the opportunity
to assess your abilities as a player, while the players become familiar with the Kings organization, as well as the
team’s philosophy and expectations. As well players will receive an exit meeting with the coaching staff. This is a great
opportunity to showcase your talent and skills against other players your age. The Kings believe this Camp will serve as a
critical part of our success this season.
Along with the Kings organization, coaches and scouts from other AJHL and BCHL teams will be in attendance. Being
identified by one of these organizations may lead to opportunities for players attending our camp in the future.
Players participating in our Camp will be exposed to high tempo ice times, fitness testing, evaluations, special teams
drills and competitive games officiated by professional referees.
All of our attendees are by invitation only, space will be limited in order to maintain a high quality camp. Registration
is strictly on a first-come, first-serve basis, so we urge interested players to register as soon as possible. Please come
