DAVE AND GAIL LINIGER HAD A VISION TO REVOLUTIONIZE THE INDUSTRY, CREATING A NEW SYSTEM TO ATTRACT AND REWARD PROFESSIONAL, TOP-PRODUCING AGENTS. At that time, real estate was mostly a man’s world, and real estate brokerages relied on a commission split that often required agents to hand over half of their commissions to their brokers. The Linigers wanted to change that. They offered opportunities to men and women, with an agentcentric strategy that allowed high-performing agents to keep almost all of their earned commissions. In return, RE/MAX asked its agents to share the costs of operating the office, just like other professional partnership arrangements. The strategy worked, and RE/MAX experienced unprecedented growth, becoming recognized as the home of top-producing agents. RE/MAX franchises spread across the United States, into Canada and Europe, then around the world. In October 2013, RE/MAX became a publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange, under the symbol “RMAX.” RE/MAX can now be found in nearly 100 countries around the world. It’s an international footprint greater than any real estate network. 1973: FIRST OFFICE OPENED IN DENVER 1975: F IRST FRANCHISE OFFICE OPENED OUTSIDE COLORADO 1978: R E/MAX HOT AIR BALLOON ADOPTED AS OFFICIAL CORPORATE LOGO RE/MAX resources and education are among the most extensive in the industry. The remax.com website is one of the most visited real estate franchise websites and has generated over 15 million leads for RE/MAX agents. RE/MAX University has won over 150 international film/video awards and delivers a comprehensive curriculum on-demand, online, on television and on personal digital devices to audiences around the world. All of this contributes to the fact that RE/MAX is the most productive real estate network. RE/MAX agents average more transactions, more real estate experience and more professional designations than agents at other national franchises. And in an industry that has been characterized by frequent ownership turnover and corporate consolidations, Dave and Gail Liniger remain in charge at the headquarters of the company they created in 1973. The name “RE/MAX” was coined from the words “real estate” and “maximums.” The model continues to attract experienced, top-producing agents who lead the industry in sales and professional education. Dave has been recognized for his dedication to the real estate industry and was named the Inman News “People’s Choice” Most Influential Real Estate Leader. He has been featured in Entrepreneur, Forbes, Fortune, Inc., Success and other leading publications and media outlets across the globe. COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT: DAVE LINIGER (ABR, CDPE, CRB) CEO, CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD AND CO-FOUNDER RE/MAX, LLC Dave Liniger is the visionary leader of the Denver-based global real estate franchise he co-founded with his wife, Gail, in 1973. Dave is well respected internationally for his vast knowledge of the real estate industry and influence on housing policy. At the height of the recession in 2006, Dave pushed for governmental housing reform policies that would help speed the housing recovery; many of his recommendations were adopted. He is widely credited with improving conditions for real estate agents by creating a unique business model combining the maximum commission concept with a host of support services. Dave is a major advocate of advanced training and education – and, as a result, RE/MAX agents are the most productive in the industry. The Linigers set a tone of philanthropy in the early days of RE/MAX, and the culture of giving attracts professionals who care about making a difference in their communities. RE/MAX is the official real estate sponsor of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. The Linigers co-founded a Denver-area conservation center, The Wildlife Experience, dedicated to fostering appreciation and understanding of wildlife, its conservation, and the many forms of wildlife art. The Linigers also own the acclaimed Sanctuary Golf Course, which is devoted primarily to charity golf tournaments. Events held at the private course have raised more than $80 million for hundreds of organizations. ROOTS: Dave was born and raised in the small town of Marion, Ind. Prior to starting his real estate career, Dave served in the Air Force and in Vietnam. Dave spent much of 2012 recovering from a life-threatening infection. And after multiple surgeries, weeks in intensive care, and months in the hospital, he returned to RE/MAX World Headquarters. He chronicled his ordeal and recovery in an inspirational New York Times Best Seller, “My Next Step: An Extraordinary Journey of Healing and Hope.” 4 PR MEDIA KIT RE/MAX CAREER: Gail moved to Denver in 1973 and became the first RE/MAX employee. The same year, she was promoted to Vice President. She became Executive Vice President in 1978 and President in 1979. In 1991, she was named Chief Executive Officer and in 2002 became Vice Chair of the Board. Gail has been recognized as one of the top 10 U.S. women for her outstanding achievement in business, the arts, and public service. She was awarded “Entrepreneur of the Year” for the State of Colorado, in the real estate and construction category, by the international accounting firm Ernst & Young and Inc. Magazine. From a national field of nearly 8,000 participants, she was named first runner-up. COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT: GAIL LINIGER VICE CHAIR OF THE BOARD AND CO-FOUNDER Gail Liniger is actively involved in day-to-day operations at RE/MAX World Headquarters. She constantly has her finger on the pulse of departmental and company-wide initiatives. Her presence and leadership fortify an office culture of collaboration, productivity, gratitude and giving. After being injured in a small-plane crash in 1983, Gail overcame incredible odds to reclaim her leadership role at RE/MAX and help turn RE/MAX into the number one real estate franchisor. Her courageous recovery is an inspiration to those both inside and outside the RE/MAX organization. 5 Gail has been instrumental in establishing a culture of giving across the RE/MAX network. Most notably, she and Dave championed the RE/MAX sponsorship of Children’s Miracle Network in 1992 which continues today. In 2011, Gail and Dave were presented the prestigious Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Founder’s Award (an award that only five other individuals had received) for their example and leadership that led to RE/MAX Associates surpassing $100 million in donations. To date, RE/MAX Associates have raised more than $150 million for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals® and other charities.
