Congratulations to
Kitty O’Sheas on their
20th Anniversar y
On May 14, 1986, the Irish Fellowship Club was the first group to raise a glass at
Kitty O’Sheas prior to its official opening on May 16. Two decades later, the Hilton
Chicago and their General Manager, Tom Loughlin, thanked the members for their
suppor t and welcomed them to celebrate Kitty’s anniversar y. The proceeds raised
from the reception benefit the Irish Fellowship Educational & Cultural Foundation.
Sox vs. Indians September 10 on the
U.S. Cellular Fan Deck
The Irish Fellowship has reser ved the Fan Deck at U.S. Cellular Field for the September
10 White Sox vs. Indians game. Tickets are $60/person and the game star ts at 1:05 p.m.
There is no limit on the number you may purchase, though we only have 150 tickets
available. Email Kathy Taylor (ktaylor@riderdickerson.com) with your ticket requests as
soon as possible.
In addition to the game, we will hold a pre- and post-game tailgate at Lizzie McNeil’s Irish
Pub, located at 400 N. McClurg Ct. Lizzie’s has generously offered a free pint to anyone
who shows their fan deck ticket.
We have arranged for a bus to take us from Lizzie’s to U.S. Cellular Field before the
game and will of fer two returning buses, one at the star t of the seventh inning (for those
who want to leave in time for the star t of the Bears vs. Packers game) and another at
the conclusion of the game. There is a $5 fee for a round trip on the bus and you
must reser ve your seat in advance.

requests no later than September 4.

An Evening At the Theater for “The Pirate
Queen” on October 26
The Irish Fellowship Club will sponsor an evening at the theater to see “The Pirate Queen”
on October 26. Set in 16th-centur y Ireland, “The Pirate Queen” is the musical stor y of
the legendar y Irish heroine Grace O’Malley. The IFC will be co-hosting this evening with
the Chicago-Galway Sister Cities Committee. Tickets are $125 per person and include a
pre-cur tain reception at the Cadillac Palace Theater (or nearby at a venue yet to be determined). Tickets are limited and available on a first-come, first-ser ved basis. We expect high
demand for this event, so reser ve your seat now. After the per formance, all of our guest
are invited to Grace O’Malley’s Irish Pub (14th and Michigan) for food and drink specials.

7th Annual Young Irish Fellowship Club Golf Outing
Whittaker Woods in New Buffalo, MI. Saturday, September 30, 2006
The Young Irish Fellowship Club of Chicago will host their 7th annual Golf Outing on Saturday,
September 30 at Whittaker Woods Golf Community in New Buffalo, MI. Tickets are $150,
which includes 18 holes of golf with car t, plus an open bar, buffet dinner, gifts and prizes.
Proceeds from this year’s Golf Outing will go to the 2006-2007 YIFC Charities: Special
Olympics Chicago and Snow City Ar ts Foundation, both assisting underser ved populations
in Chicago. The Young Irish Fellowship Club would be excited to have you par ticipate in
this year’s event by sponsoring a hole. For your tax-deductible contribution of $250 you
will receive onsite signs along with website adver tising at youngirish.com. The YIFC is also
accepting raffle prize donations for additional fundraising at the golf outing.

Member Notes
-The Fellowship extends its deepest sympathies and condolences to the Hartigan and Routh
families for the loss of Bridget Hartigan-Routh. Bridget and the entire Hartigan family have
been long-time friends and supporters of the Irish Fellowship Club. Bridget’s father, Neil, is a
past President and Chairman of the Club and her brother, John, currently ser ves on the Board
of Directors. Bridget recently ser ved as the regional director of the American Ireland Fund.
-The Fellowship also extends its deepest sympathies and condolences to the extended family
and friends of Chester Jaskolka. Chester was a great friend to many Fellowship members as
well as thousands of other Chicagoans. He will also be missed deeply at Notre Dame where
he was regarded as one of their strongest fans. He was recently memorialized in the book
Touchdown Jesus, which paid tribute to the great fans of Notre Dame.
-The Fellowship also extends its deepest sympathies and condolences to the O’Reilly family
for the passing of Thomas J. O’Reilly. Tom was the husband of Mar y O’Reilly, who was instrumental in the founding and development of the Irish Heritage Center.
-The Fellowship also extends its deepest sympathies and condolences the Ryan family for
the loss of Margaret Mar y Ryan.

On July 17, the Irish Fellowship Club sponsored its annual Irish Open at Beverly Countr y Club. This
year’s event included a sold-out afternoon star t and a strong showing for the morning round. As
expected, the course played superbly and proved to be a formidable venue, with the day’s oppressive
heat and humidity adding to the challenge.
Still, the Fellowship guests stayed hydrated with refreshments throughout the day and nourished
with delicious lunch and dinner offerings. The IFC extends its gratitude to the management and staff
of Beverly for their hospitality.
Continuing their record of successful outings, the Golf Committee of Jim Madden, Gene Callahan,
Jack Har tman, Chris Kozicki, Brad O’Halleran, Jim Haran, Kevin Conlon, Bill Quinlan Jr. and Joe
Harmening once again planned a day of great golf, fine fellowship and impressive charity. The Irish
Fellowship thanks these gentlemen for their continued effor ts to produce this mar velous event. Also many thanks to Kathy Taylor for all her help.
The proceeds from the Irish Open suppor t the Irish Fellowship Educational and Cultural Foundation.
Last year, the Foundation provided $74,000 in IFC Education Grants to 37 Chicago-area high schools
and since its inception in 1979 has awarded over $1,000,000 in grants and cultural sponsorships.
The IFC would also like to thank the Open guests, as well as the hole sponsors and prize donators who
so generously contributed to the success of this event.

Consul General Charles Sheehan
Returning to Ireland
The Fellowship Board of Directors recently held a reception to thank Mr. Charles Sheehan, Consul General of Ireland, for his leadership and friendship
to the Irish of Chicago. After four years in Chicago, Sheehan has been recalled to Dublin for a new assignment in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He
and his family developed a fond attachment to the city of Chicago and we are deeply saddened by their departure.

marched alongside Irish ministers and other Irish-American dignitaries in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and always represented Ireland with grace, continuing to foster the strong bonds between Ireland and its diaspora. One of the highlights of his tenure was the 2003 visit by Irish President
Mary McAleese, which the IFC commemorated with an unforgettable reception and civic dinner with the help of Charles and his staff.
We wish Charles, Alice and their two daughters, Tanya and Lara, God’s blessings in Dublin. Thank you for your exemplary service, warm friendship and many fine memories.
