Motorcycle Driver Training (Novice Program M1 to M2 licence) GINT0315 (mandatory)
Each lesson builds on the previous, thereby allowing
for continuous skills improvement for a full riding
experience. Topics include: balance and braking, cold
start, clutch control, moving off, shoulder checks, slowspeed manoeuvers, gear shifting, counter steering, curve
management, emergency braking, crisis management, traffic
behaviour, and street strategies for surviving in hazardous
situations. Concludes with the Ministry of Transportation M1
Exit test; successful outcome allows for an upgrade to the
M2 class licence.
Admission Requirements
You must be in possession of a valid M1 licence prior to the
course start date if you would like to be tested for your M2
licence. Must be 16 years of age of older. See required gear
on page 10.

Getting Started
GINT0690
Designed as an introduction to motorcycling, this course
provides an orientation to motorcycling and responsibilities
of the rider. The course explores licensing requirements,
recommended riding gear and rider responsibility to make
a strong foundation into the sport of riding motorcycles.
College motorcycles are used to familiarize the student with
the motorcycle and its controls. Students will be better
equipped to make smart choices regarding proper training
and motorcycle equipment. There are no riding lessons
during this course.
Introduction to Motorcycle Riding

This introduction course introduces the novice to motorcycle
riding. This 5-hour course is designed to provide basic
riding skills prior to taking the Motorcycle Rider Training
course offered at Conestoga, or for those who aren’t sure
if motorcycling is for them and want to give it a try without
investing a lot of time and money. The first evening of this
course is the Getting Started course (see above for details).
The second night is a 3-hour practical hands-on portion
involving basic riding techniques.
Admission Requirements
All students must be eligible to get their M1. Must be a
minimum of 16 years of age. See required gear on page 10.

Motorcycle Driver Training – Level 2 GINT0321
Prerequisite: Student must hold an M or M2 licence.
This course is designed for individuals who have completed
Motorcycle Driver Training, and would like to further
enhance their riding skills using their own motorcycles. It
will also be of interest to riders with limited experience or
as a refresher of basic skills. In-class discussion will focus
on riding skills and techniques as well as group riding and
consideration for road commuting. On the lot, you will
practice slow-speed control, cornering technique, push
steering, collision avoidance and quick stopping. The class
will finish with a group ride with stops en route to discuss
considerations while riding.
One-on-One
GINT0323
This One-on-One course is an open format designed to
allow for the specific needs of the student. This course is set
up through a co-ordinator who matches student needs with
an appropriate instructor. The instructor will contact you
and arrange a time and location which is mutually agreeable.
This course is designed individually around your needs.
Whether it be the basics of riding skills to advanced riding
techniques, we have the instructor with the experience and
dedication to meet your needs.
Conestoga can provide the bike or you can bring your own.

Experienced Rider (M2 Exit - M2 to M license) GINT0005 (mandatory)
This course is specifically designed for ‘M2’ class licensed
riders wanting to be tested for their ‘M’ class licence, with
an initial skills test and progressing to on-lot and on-road
riding using manoeuvres such as slow-speed riding, steering
and braking, traffic behaviour, crisis management, and
highway and group riding. Concludes with the Ministry of
Transportation M2 Exit test; successful outcome allows for
an upgrade to the ‘M’ class licence.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must have attended a Motorcycle Driver Training
(Novice Rider) course at an accredited institution and have
had their ‘M2’ class licence for a minimum of 18 months,
or have had their ‘M2’ class licence for a minimum of 22
months. All applicants must bring their own motorcycle
(capable of safely riding at highway speeds eg. 401), proof of
insurance and registration, and the mandatory gear.

Basic Motorcycle Maintenance

This course gives motorcyclists a basic understanding
of general maintenance using college equipment. Topics
include: safety, tools, lubrication, engine types, drive
systems, suspension and electrical systems, all focused
on providing the novice with information for proper do-ityourself servicing.

Gearing Up/Rider Refresher
GINT0975
Prerequisite: Student must hold an M or M2 licence.
This course gives students a hands-on opportunity to review
and utilize motorcycle riding skills in a structured environment.
Students review rider and equipment preparation and safe
street riding strategies. Students practice balance, braking,
accelerating, turning, shifting, obstacle avoidance & tight
manoeuvres using college owned motorcycles. Students must
have previous experience on motorcycles and possess basic
riding skills. Upon successful completion, participants receive
a Canada Safety Council Certificate with which you may be
eligible for a discount on your insurance. Check with your
insurance provider for eligibility.

Are you a new rider or has it been some time since you’ve
been on a motorcycle?
Motorcycle Safety Online offers an economical, professional
way to assist new and experienced riders in improving their
skills and knowledge to ride safely.
Canada Safety Council, in partnership with Online Learning
Enterprises, is pleased to introduce Motorcycle Safety
Online - What you should know before you ride.
This course will be of value to those who are thinking about
obtaining their motorcycle licence, are considering enrolling
in a motorcycle safety course, and/or would like to know
what is involved in the sport of motorcycling. It is also
suitable for those who obtained their licence many years ago
and want a refresher, or for those who plan on riding again
after being away from it for many years.
