Business Meeting
1. Introductions/Opening comments
Rich made some opening remarks and made some announcements:
The CWEA Northern Regional Training Conference will be held in Monterey September 19-21,
1999. The CWEA Southern Regional Training Conference will be held in Long Beach
November 15-16, 1999.
This year’s CWEA Industrial and Hazardous Waste Conference will be held over a 3-day period
in Huntington Beach, February 7-9, 2000. It will be held in conjunction with an EPA Advanced
Pretreatment Training Session. A contract has been signed with the hotel for the conference,
the Huntington Beach Waterfront Hilton.
2. Treasurers Report
The current Committee balance is $25,272. Please note this balance is prior to the I&HW
contribution to the CWEA Office. A $2,000 deposit was made for the November P2 Symposium
in Monterey. Rich indicated that $5,572.31 is to go to CWEA to reduce the I&HW Committee
carryover to $20,000. CWEA is asking for $5,000/day for each day of conference. This may be
waived for the I&HW sponsored P2 Symposium as that is not priced to show any return. There
was a discussion on Association fee increases, Membership fees vs. Conference fees.
3. Sub-Committee Reports
Plant of the Year, given by Tim Potter. There is a commitment to this year by the existing subcommittee. Tim will confirm sub-committee membership. There was discussion of feeding the
CWEA award winners into the WEF/National Award process. Rich said he would touch base
with the CWEA on this possible expansion of the awards process.
Names of the I&HW Sub-Committee Chairs were given out by Rich von Langon. Each subcommittee will be evaluated; an annual deliverable will be required from each sub-committee to
demonstrate viability. i.e. Technical presentation at a committee meeting or a session at the
annual Conference or P2 Symposium. Rich said he would get a current listing of the
subcommittee participants to Allen, who will contact each for future deliverable (attached).
Oil/Grease sub-committee by Jack Dickinson. Currently there are 2 active members. Jack
provided a hand-out on grease disposal, haulers and vouchers; a system which removes the
incentive for illegal dumping.
4. Announcements
Bulletin deadlines. Rich said there was an August 2 deadline for the P2 Symposium reminder.
The P2 Symposium this year will be held in Monterey, November 8-9. The theme is “Concepts
to Actions”. Darren provided a session-specific draft Program. Contact Darren Greenwood
(925-373-5230) for further details.
The next scheduled I&HW Committee meeting in the North is September 14 at Sacramento
County, hosted by Sam Harader.
