Gedung Kesenian Jakarta was built
during the Colonial Era in 1821. The
building has been preserved in its
Neo-Rennaisance style, and used for
various performances ever since. Many
local and foreign aspiring artists hold
their plays at this prestigious classical
bastion of art & cultures in Jakarta.

Originating on Java, Nasi Tumpeng is
usually served at special occasions,
at “Selamatan”, or thanksgiving
gatherings on anniversaries, weddings,
births, circumcisions, or other special
events.
Today, at special dinners or in fine
dining restaurants individual Tumpengs
are also served.
The center piece of Tumpeng is a large
cone of yellow rice surrounded by side
dishes, served on a rice winnowing
tray decorated with banana leaves. The
yellow rice is plain white rice steamed
in coconut milk mixed with turmeric
to get the yellow color. Traditionally,
Tumpeng side dishes consist of fried
chicken, telur pindang (marbled boiled
eggs), shredded omelette, sweet dried
tempeh (soya bean cake) and mashed
potato fritters.
