Dear Friends:
The Acadian Museum of Erath will induct Lt. General Russel L. Honoré (Ret.) into its Order of
Living Legends on May 28th, 2010 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., at the Erath Community Center.
General Honoré is best known for serving as commander of the joint task force responsible for
coordinating military relief efforts for Hurricanes Katrina and Rita-affected areas across the Gulf
Coast. Before retiring, LTG Honoré commanded Joint Task Force-Katrina. In that capacity, he
led the Department of Defense response to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in Alabama, Mississippi,
and Louisiana, and directed the operations of over 22,000 Service members, 200 aircraft, and 20
ships. In accordance with the leadership and priorities established by LTG Honoré, Joint Task
Force-Katrina collaborated with Federal, State and local authorities to coordinate and conduct all
response, recovery, and mitigation operations. Since his retirement from the military, LTG
Honoré now serves as Emergency Preparedness contributor to CNN Worldwide. He focuses
exclusively on disaster preparedness, response, and recovery activities, with multi-sector
integration of emergency management.
This event will be a fundraiser for the museum, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which
charges no admission and is totally staffed by local volunteers. Prior to the event, the general will
tour the Acadian Museum, the Louisiana Military Museum of Abbeville and the coastal regions
of Vermilion Parish to observe the area’s recovery since the Hurricane Rita. Following the
