HOW TO SET-UP A FABRIC ROLLER SHADE 1 2 SEW YOUR SHADE 3 ROLL FABRIC ONTO TUBE Sew a pocket in the top of your shade. We’ve found that folding the fabric down approximately 4.5 inches and sewing the pocket closed provides an adequate size pocket for tube insertion. This measurement can be changed slightly to provide a larger or smaller pocket depending on your preference and thickness of the fabric you’re using. Generally lining or light block are not sewn to the decorative fabric so that they will roll onto the tube without buckling. Laminated fabric roller shades also work with this system. Sew a pocket at the bottom of the shade for the hem bar. INSERT TUBE Decide if you’re shade will have left-hand or right-hand control. Positioning the fabric with the decorative side facing you, insert the pin-end Left-hand Control side of the roller tube into your pocket so that the clutch will end up on the side of the shade desired. Position the fabric evenly on the tube and while holding the shade level, snap the shade clips over the fabric onto the tube. Minimum Hem Bar Right-hand Control (2) shade-clips per shade, wider shades may require additional shade-clips (extras provided by RollEase based on the width you indicated on the order form.) When using two clips, they should be positioned towards the outside ends of the roller tube, additional clips are positioned evenly between the two end clips. Most roller shades roll off the tube on the side of the tube closest to the window (standard roll). With fabric roller shades, some designers prefer to have the fabric roll off of the room side. (reverse roll). This is especially important if the roll of fabric can be seen when in operation. When set up as a reverse roll the decorative side of the fabric is visible on the roll. To choose Standard Roll or Reverse Roll, simply roll up the shade on the side you prefer and install in the same manner. If using bead chain, stop balls may be utilized to prevent the operator from rolling too far up or down and reversing the direction of the roll. (Two Stop Balls provided when ordering bead-chain, see step 6 on reverse side) Hint: Workrooms that fabricate many fabric roll shades have built a test wall with one permanent mounting bracket and one adjustable one which is moved left or right for each shade. The test wall is used for setting up the roller shade in your workroom to make sure the fabric is rolled onto the tube evenly. Attach the brackets to the window frame, window molding, wall or ceiling, as shown. TO THE INSIDE OF THE WINDOW FRAME TO THE WALL OR FRONT OF THE WINDOW MOLDING TO THE CEILING OR TOP OF THE WINDOW FRAME Brackets are universal so clutch may be mounted on either side. Note: If sharing a bracket between two shades, bracket can only be shared by a clutch and a pin end, not clutch-to-clutch or pin end-topin end. 2. INSTALL THE SHADE. a. Put the spring loaded pin into the round hole of the bracket. b. Keeping the pin end secured in it’s bracket, insert the hook arms on the clutch straight into the two hook arm receiver holes of the bracket. Once the two hook arms are through the holes, gently pull down on the clutch until the two hook arms have locked securely to the bracket. The bottom of the clutch should always point straight down. 3. INSTALL THE BRACKET COVERS Bracket covers are slid over the bracket until snapped into position. (Covers only provided when “outside mount” is indicated on order form.) 4. INSTALL THE TENSION DEVICE Note: If sharing a bracket between two shades, bracket can only be shared by a clutch and a pin end, not a clutch-to-clutch or pin-end to pin-end. The Tension Device reduces the hazards of strangulation and entanglement of young children by limiting access to the control cord. Anchor the Tension Device, that is attached to the shade’s control cord, to the window frame or wall, so that young children cannot pull the cord around their necks. a. Lower the shade. b. Hold the Tension Device upright so the Warning Tag hangs straight down as shown in diagram. c. Position the Tension Device on the window frame or the wall so that the Tension Device and control cord do not interfere with raising or lowering the shade. The Tension Device should be installed without stretching or pulling down on the control cord. Stretching the cord will cause excessive wear. Do not twist or cross the control cord. If using stop balls, position the tension device 1/4 inch higher to allow the stop ball to pass thru the tension device. d. Holding the Tension Device upright, and in position, as shown, insert and secure the screw through the hole. The mounting screw must be secured into a solid surface or molly. 5. USE THE CONTROL CORD OR BEAD CHAIN TO OPERATE THE SHADE. Pulling gently on the cord in one direction raises the shade; pulling it in the other direction lowers it. On shades where the fabric rolls against the window, the front cord does the raising. On shades where the fabric rolls toward the room, the rear cord does the raising. 6 ATTACH STOPS TO A CONTROL CORD THAT’S MADE OF BEAD CHAIN. On metal bead chain, attach a metal stop ball that is at least 5/16" in diameter, so that it touches the mouth of the clutch when the shade is in the all-rolled-up position. For metal or plastic bead chain, lower the shade to sill or floor height, and attach the appropriate metal stop or plastic connector next to the clutch, this prevents the shade from being lowered beyond that point.
