The intensified drive has led to a 403.50% jump in renewal of licenses covering the same period of 2015 vs 2016 (i.e., 57 renewals in March-May 2015 vs 287 renewals in March - May 2016). Significantly, the Import/Export Permits issued on the same comparative period show a 9.95% increase (201 permits issued on Mar-May 2015 vs 261 permits issued on Mar-May 2016). The Legal Division has also commenced criminal action against persons in violation of the pertinent provisions of Republic Act 9239, otherwise known as the “Optical Media Act of 2003”, to wit: 2 criminal charges were filed during the month of April: Against ambulant vendors caught along Arayat St., Cubao, and Against (4) employees of a printing press located in Tondo, Manila for violation of RA 9239, specifically for the possession of optical media accessories without the proper license and permit. 3 criminal charges were filed during the month of May: Against the owners of the above-mentioned printing press; Against ambulant vendors for violation of RA 9239 and Article 201 of the Revised Penal Code, specifically the sale of pirated optical media which included obscene material.
