Monastery of Agathon
In a magical environment, the road to Lihno and
quite near Ipati, meet the Monastery of Agathon,
at an altitude of 553 meters on the slopes of the
mountain "Iti". Built in the 14th-15th century is an
example of Byzantine art.
Oral tradition says the old monastery, ascetic
Saint Agathon and on the verge of neighboring
villages Lihno and Kastania sunk and the icon
disappeared, to be found in brigh cave and there,
near the current position, built by Saint monastery
in 14th-15th century. Even today the inhabitants
of the surrounding villages and specifically those
of nearby Lihno talk about being 'the old days'
monastery in the southwestern part of the village
a short position, called "Old Monastery". In this
monastery, again according to tradition, ascetic
monk Agathon, unknown date.
The monastery after the death of St. Agathon
named by the monks, monastery of Agathon.
Following the destruction by the occasional foray
into the area of Ipati, the Holy Monastery
Agathonos suffered this disaster, with the main
1822 by Dramali who burned his ledger.
First historical researcher of the Holy Monastery of
Agathon was G. Labakis, who places the church in
the 15th or 16th century. Singles Katholika
Athonite type (cross-dome complex four columns
with built four chapels), narrated by the mid-16th
or late 17th century. Today few murals preserved
due to ravages of time and the destructive fury
Dramali who torched the church (1822). The
image of Virgin of Agathon (of the Directive
covered with artistic silver coating) say it is
miraculous.
In the Catholic, chapels and other places of the
monastery there are several inscriptions, which
refer to the space renovations or reconstruction of
buildings, such as the bell tower: «ΤΟ

Preserved in the convent many valuable artifacts
and relics. The sacred relics, which are in the
museum of the monastery, are numerous and
interesting. Dozens crosses, sacred vessels,
tabernacles, holy relics, holy icons, vestments,
scripts, books, collected from temples and
