UPDATED INFO REGARDING AREA 6 2015 FRIENDSHIP
CAMPOUT
May 14-17, 2015 (leave May 17th)
If you got your number from me you need to call the RV River
Park (501-340-5312) to make your reservations. We are running out of spots and would like to add more if we need them;
however, I don't want to be responsible for these spots if we
can’t fill them. The only time you call me is to get a number.
Then call Shelia, tell her the number I gave you and make your
reservations. You will have 2 weeks to get them in. That will
give me a head count. I have more people who want to come.
Thursday is pulled pork BBQ so bring a side dish to go with.
Friday we will be given a tour of the Hasting Museum . The
Museum requests donations instead of an entry fee which are
then given to charity. Friday afternoon is reserved for an ice
cream social and sand bag baseball. A Chinese auction, catered
meal and live entertainment are planned for Saturday. A craft
lesson in making good hand cream will be given Saturday
morning. You will need a small container for this. And there
will be a lot of games and prizes so come and join us. Hope to
see everyone there!
We are still looking for someone to cater a good meal for a
good price. If you have an idea, please call Girtie 501-454-9215.

There is an opening for a chapter to step in and assist the Arkansas Roadrunners whose 6 member rigs need help to continue this

For February the Jolly Rogers met at the Golden Corral in
Rogers AR for breakfast and a short meeting. We had 21
members and 2 guests; Larry & Karen Ashley from Rogers who are Good Sam members and interested in camping with us.

After the meeting eight of us went to the Fayetteville VA
Facility for the National VA Patient Recognition Day. Being a clown chapter, Carla, Darlene & Marion dressed up
in their clown outfits.

cards made by Boy
& Girl Scouts and
school kids in the
area.
While we were there, two U of A athletes, Bobby Portis &
Scotty Thurman, also came to recognize the Veteran Patients, two nice young men. Grace seems a little in awe;
he’s only 6’11” Grace.
We meet at Golden Corral again next month, hopefully
some of our snowbirds will be back. Then April is time to
pull out the RV’s and go camping again.

QUEEN WILHELMINA GOOD SAMS
The Queen Wilhelmina Good Sams met at La Villa Mexican
Restaurant on Thursday, February 12, 2015. The Mexican
meal was enjoyed by all.
The camping schedule discussion was led by Wagon Master
Billy Wood. Camping for this year will include: Lake Ft. Smith
State Park, Blue Mountain, Arkansas Samboree, Crater of
Diamond State Park, Aux Arc Corp Park, Lake Ouachita State
Park, Beaver Lake Dam Site, Branson, Bull Shoals State Park,
Heber Springs, and Lake Catherine.
President Wingo Johnson led the discussion concerning the
Area 5 Friendship Rally and the Arkansas Samboree. Also

The Park Host
meeting at the Samboree is on Friday at 1:00 PM. (If you participate in this program, you must attend this meeting to continue
your eligibility.)
Take a look at page 7 of this issue for a condensed program of
the 2015 Samboree in Texarkana at the Four States Fair Grounds
April 16-19. Whether you decide to come at the first of the
week and take advantage of Early Parking or arrive on Thursday,
you’ll find there are activities every day for everyone. Entertainment promises to be above the ordinary. Samantha’s Snack Shack
will be open for your eating pleasure. There are plenty of games
going on and a seminar or two that you’ll find interesting.
There are another 2 meetings that are a must for some chapter
participants: At 3:00 PM on Friday is the Chapter Secretaries’
Meeting. This is where your chapter secretary will receive information about submission of changes as well as additions/deletions
to your individual chapter’s roster. The format for maintaining
these rosters is dictated by Good Sam Headquarters and must be
submitted by the AR State Secretary quarterly. And last, but
not least, is the Arkansas State Committee Meeting at 10:00 AM
on Saturday. Each chapter President is required to attend or be
represented by a delegate. If you are sending a delegate, you
must send that person’s name to Bill Nery, AR State Director.
Vivian Langheld filled in for Marilyn Hartsfield. Vivian called the meeting to order at 11:10 am. Opening prayer by Kenneth Dixon.
Vona Smith called roll. There were 12 rigs present. We were proud to
have guests Mike & Sue Ainsworth present for their first time meeting.
Everyone else was missed. We know the weather kept them away.
Sharron Gibbons gave Treasurer’s report. Randy Gibbons gave a
report on next campout to be held at Pecan Grove, Lake Village, AR.

Chapter discussed gifts for the Friendship Campout and it was
agreed on 2-$10's.

TX Samboree is held in Waco April 2-5 followed by the Louisiana
Samboree in Shreveport April 9-12. These folks are like Arkansas’ extended family. Support them with your presence if at all

Our February meeting was a luncheon held at Home Plate Restaurant,
5110 Highway 7 North, Hot Springs, Arkansas, near Jessieville on
Thursday, February 19th. Don Dale opened with prayer. Then we had
a delicious meal and afterwards we started our business meeting.

SUGAR LOAF SAMS
Sugar Loaf Sam's held their monthly meeting on January 28 at Bentley's in Greers Ferry for breakfast and a business
meeting. Meeting was called to order by President Rich Kellison. Twenty-eight (28) chapter members were in attendance. Bob Carr shared with the group an article out of his book, "Help Lord I Am Having A Senior Moment". Don Gibson led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Secretary Pat Smith read the minutes of the last meeting.
Joe T. gave a report on Dove House in Clinton. Diane is interested in making a scrapbook for the Samboree to represent Sugar Loaf Sams. Paul Beaton gave us a report Margie's Haven House.
A discussion on the March Clean-up for Bull Shoals Park was presented to the members. Several members said they
were no longer able to do the work. Other ideas were mentioned. A vote was taken and passed by Acclamation that
Sugar Loaf Sams RV Chapter would no longer take part in the Bull Shoals Clean-up. Rich Kellison, the President, was
asked to call Connie Gerg and give him the information.
Next meeting will be March 25th (place to be announced). Harold Stribling made a motion to adjourn and Joe Galewski seconded. Bob Carr closed with prayer.

DORCHEAT SAMS
Our group met at Bayou Inn in Dixie Inn with 6 rigs present. We had Paul and Frances Carson and Charles and
Eden Dockery as visitors. They all were members of a group that had disbanded along with Bobby and Shirley.
We all welcomed them and hope that they will consider camping with us! Our Vice-President Otto opened our
business meeting as President Doug was under the weather. Chaplain Dale led us in prayer. The old business
included reading of last month’s newsletter. The Treasurer’s report given by Dave. New business was the discussion of our campout next month. Each camper was reminded to bring a dessert to share. Everyone really
enjoyed our new place to eat and the food was great! Hoping we see our visitors again.

GOOD SAM MALLARDS
ARKANSAS ONE
For their February meeting, the Good Sam Mallards celebrated Valentine’s Day
at the home of Sherry and Joe Hoffpauir . With perfect attendance, all the ladies
were decked out in their finest red outfits for the day. Our meal, provided by
Sherry and Joe, was roasted chicken and pork, with delicious baked beans,
cole slaw, corn chowder, chips for dipping, and cheese and crackers. After
almost everyone had second helpings, we had a choice of three delicious desserts: chocolate brownies, cherry brownies, or coconut cake. All three were
delicious. I know, I tried them all !
Our business meeting was opened with prayer. Lenora Murray and Sherry
Hoffpauir gave the secretary and treasurer reports .We sang Happy Birthday
to Pat Collier . Our volunteer hours for January added up to 104 hours! In old
business we voted to drop our service project at Petit Jean. In other old business, Danny reminded us to contact Pecan Grove if we are attending the March
Friendship. Our April hosts will be Martha and William Hosto . We hope to have
some members at the Arkansas Samboree April 15-18 as well.
In new business, we set up a tentative menu for the Ulm Civic Club meal we will
serve April 7. We also discussed a skit for the Friendship. Thanks to Jeanie
Hosto, we had two skits to choose from. Harold and Joyce West asked to rejoin
the club, and were accepted. The whole club thanked Joe and Sherry Hoffpauir
for being such great hosts this month. There being no further business we
adjourned to the living room for a rousing game of Left and Right with Joe Hoffpauir narrating as we passed gifts left or right as he read. We even had time for
some Hand and Foot or Mexican Train, or just visiting until everyone reluctantly
headed home as the sun set. Thank you again Joe and Sherry for making this
Valentine’s Day so special for all the Mallards.
The February meeting was held at Tim Choate's home in Haskell
with twelve members attending. Tim had a Valentine meal of barbecue ribs, brisket and sausage with beans and potato salad with
cobbler and ice cream for dessert. The table was set and waiting
with red placemats and napkins, too. Tim wouldn’t let anyone help
him in any way, he said this is his treat to the ladies. He also had a
special gift for the ladies. He gave us pieces of his grandmother’s
costume jewelry, and told us the story of her and the ladies of Antioch Church near Carthage, Texas. They lived in a time without
much money, so their treat was costume jewelry to wear to
church, and as Tim said, “the gaudier, the better”. We appreciated
his sharing it.
After the meal was the business meeting. The Treasurer’s report
was given and correspondence was read. Items for goodie bags
and door prizes for the Samboree were discussed. James Niblett
has collected door prizes and might also make a flag pole. Katy is
also making a door prize.
Upcoming meetings will be at the Samboree in April and at the
Area 6 Friendship in North Little Rock in May. There will be no
meeting or newsletter in March.
Afterwards, the Nibletts and Balfours hopped in their rigs parked
at Tim’s Campground and headed out for “The Rally” in Phoenix,
and planned to meet up with more Arkansans.

ROCK CITY SAMS
Rock City Sams gathered for our annual Chili Mixer at the home of Steve and
Donna Brown on Saturday February 14 followed by our monthly meeting.
Eighteen members attended, including four of our newest members, Felix and
Carole Hall, and Leonard and Lena Coker. New members Howard and Ruth
Wheeler couldn’t make this meeting, but we hope to see them again in March.
February has seen travel problems for some of our members. On an extended trip west, Stewart and Risa Russell have had multiple problems, including
an accident, a breakdown, and for Risa, a four day hospital stay. Steve and
Donna Brown’s trip to volunteer at The Rally in Phoenix, was delayed by icy
weather; but once out of Arkansas, they made up for lost time. The Halls and
Cokers were also delayed by snow and ice, requiring a stop-over in Texas.
They’re back on the road, and headed for Phoenix, as I write this.
Rock City Sams are looking forward to another fun campout schedule in 2015,
including something new. We will rendezvous in our rigs and caravan for a
mystery camp out in September. Wagon Master Steve Brown is keeping the
location a closely guarded secret. One thing for sure, we’ll have a fun time no
matter where we go.

La Petite Roche met at the Western Sizzlin’ in Jacksonville for an eatin’ meetin’.
With most of our members either out of town or ill we had a very informal meeting. Tom Anderson led us in prayer and Bernie Bauer led us in the
Pledge of Allegiance. Judy Bauer read the very brief minutes from last month; Katie Ringler gave the Treasurer’s report.
We had an email from Mary Ann Graves letting us know that Jerry has been very ill and in the hospital three times but seems to be doing better
now, and they hope to be doing some traveling in the spring.
We also had a note about Alma Lea Snow who is recovering from a stroke. She is out of rehab and staying with her daughter Carolyn. We hope
to have her back with us soon. We were so glad to have George & Flo McSweeney and Tom and Lois Anderson join us. We’ve missed them.
Bernie also let us know that we needed to make our reservations for our Area 6 Friendship soon. Our next camp out will be at Aux Arc Park
March 16th - 20th.
Meeting was adjourned, and we all grabbed a plate and had a great lunch.

"What is Katy up to this
year?"
Thundering Sams has chosen "Rock and Roll
through the Years" as their theme for the upcoming Samboree.
To go with their theme, on Friday afternoon,
we will be having "Fun and Games Through
The Years". In addition to some of the board
games that you and your kids probably played
in your camper, we will have such things as a
Hula Hoop contest and Bubble Gum blowing;
and if you have a Yo-Yo, please bring it.
We would also like to see what you and your
camper looked like "through the years" with a
photo display....so dig back through your pictures and scrapbooks and bring us a picture of
you and your camper in the past. If you're
tech savvy and can get it enlarged a bit and
stick it in a frame that will stand on a table, it
will help.
BELLA VISTA TRAVELING SAMS
The Bella Vista Traveling Sams held their monthly meeting February 12 at the Egg & I in Rogers.
Wagon Master was Jan Kaylor. Camping dates
for the next few months were discussed. In April,
the group will go the Diamond Mine at Murfreesboro before attending the Samboree in Texarkana.
May 13-16 the group will go to Nevada, MO for
a camp out. May 27- June 1 the group will attend the Friendship Campout in Grove, OK.
The next meeting will be a luncheon at Acropolis,
Bentonville, March
12; and Art & Wilma Hamilton are
Wagon Masters.

BELLE POINT SAMS
Belle Point Sam Chapter Members met Tuesday at the Village Inn Restaurant for the February dinner/meeting. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the meeting went well. On Wednesday chapter members met at the Rest Area on Hwy 71 South to caravan to Nakatosh
Campground in Natchitoches, Louisiana for the night. A couple of the ladies had a big pot of
soup for everyone and Ki Johnson also fixed a big pot of rice. The weather was nice enough
to eat outside.
We planned to head out Thursday morning at 9:00 a.m. but it took 3 hours to get the valve
stem replaced on a flat tire on the Bogner’s rig. Eventually we ended up at Coushatta, Red
Shoes RV Park in Kinder, Louisiana. Gayle Smith had arrived at the park Wednesday and
had a crockpot full of ribs ready and two pots of corn on the cob. Once everyone was set-up
we each made our own contribution to the delicious meal.
Friday morning four of our rigs had to move to another campground, and Don & Don headed
out to find itinerary information. Just before lunch the Don’s made it back and the group got
together to decide what to do. Some did lunch in their rig and some went out to a local restaurant. We spent the afternoon visiting and telling stories until suppertime when we all
went to a local Mexican Restaurant. Some came back to their rigs after supper, and the rest
of the group went across the street for a gospel music evening.
Saturday morning we visited and told stories until it was time to head to the city of Eunice
where Mardi Gras music was being played on the streets lined with various vendors. We had
a light lunch in a local coffee shop. Some of us visited the National Parks Museum and all of
us went to the National Parks Theater for the Louisiana University explanation of Mardi Gras
and the Cajun version of the Grand Ole Opry of Mardi Gras music. At the end of our musical
evening some stopped for supper and some came back to the rigs to scrounge up a supper
and get ready for bed.
Sunday morning by 10:00 a.m. we left for Church Point, had lunch in a restaurant and set up
our lawn chairs to watch Church Point’s Mardi Gras parade. The floats were very colorful
and unique, and even the folks on horses were colorful. Everyone caught their fair share of
beads, plastic cups, etc. After the parade we carefully made our way out of town and again
some stopped for supper and some came back to their rigs to eat and relax prior to bed.
Monday some of the group headed home and later most of the group drove into Kinder and
went to lunch at a small Cajun Restaurant then came back to their rigs to relax until the afternoon when we left for the small town of Basile and the restaurant “DI” famous for its Cajun
food, revelers and band. We found out the restaurant was full, and it would be at least a 2hour wait to get in; so we ended up in Eunice at the restaurant “DC”. Some food was good
some food not so good.
The weather turned frigid Monday night/Tuesday morning and some of the group had
planned to leave Tuesday. The rest of us soon decided to head home as well led via the GPS.
It got us to a nice RV Park where we each contributed to the meal and gathered in the Martin’s rig for fellowship and the meal. The next morning the GPS got us out of Shreveport and
on I-49 south to Hwy 71 south.

WHISPERING PINES TRAVELERS
As everyone knows Bill & Dee, Tom and myself are in Phoenix, AZ for the
Good Sams Rally. Hope everyone is staying warm. We would like to thank
everyone for taking care of the meeting for us. Hope to see everyone at Lake
Village March 11-14. Whispering Pines Travelers held their business meeting
at Western Sizzler in Jacksonville on February 21. The meeting was called to
order by V-P Richard Zelnick. All in attendance recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Two guests were introduced.
The minutes were read and approved as read; the Treasurer’s report was also
given and approved as read. The Archdeacons celebrated 48 years of marriage. We did a fabulous job of singing Happy Birthday to those celebrating!
There was no Old Business. New Business—Jeanette Duckworth talked
about us saving pop top can tabs. We were 3rd last year with 55# of tabs. We
do not have NEAR that amount so far this year. They will be turned in April 23
and we need lots more. Tabs can be from juice, vegetable, sodas, etc. We
ONLY need the tab. Ronald McDonald House received about $2,000 last year
from our results. Get your tabs to Jeanette ASAP!!
Registrations for the Samboree need to be turned in ASAP, too. The return
address may be incorrect. Please check it for accuracy.
Lisa gave us feedback about our Christmas Party. She talked to Cheryl’s
Diner in Cabot. They will do a turkey dinner with dressing, gravy, potatoes
(both sweet and white), a green vegetable and a dessert for $27.50 a couple.
One problem is that she must be guaranteed 25 couples would attend because they normally do not stay open that late. Her open dates were December 11 or 18. Our question to her is, “Would she do it for $30/couple with no
guarantee of couples?” Ruby Wortham said we could use her church but the
meal would have to be catered. (I know that Golden Corral caters.) That is
something we could check into). Bettye Francis has a contact that she will
connect with and check out.
Under Wagon Master, we were reminded to let Tom and Girtie know if we
were going to the Area 4 Friendship at Pecan Grove in Lake Village. It is a
Wednesday to Saturday (LEAVE on Saturday). Call them and then make your
reservations with Amber at the park. The number is on your Schedule for the
year.
Motion to adjourn was by Lisa and seconded by Henry. 50/50 pot was $30 and
won by Ben Kelley.
