Happy Quilting and Crafting Season!!!!!!!
We have SO much on the calendar for the next few months, it`s going to be hard to find time to
gripe about cold weather! First off: Thanks to all you brave new APQS longarm renters who
have been regularily finishing projects at the shop! Word is quickly spreading how easy and
satisfying it is to finish your own quilts here on Millie and Lucey. Next step for many of you
will be to try your hand at Free Motion Quilting on our machines. Manitoba`s own Kathy
Schwartz will be here to take you through the first steps of this new adventure! Many of you
have asked for a Art Quilting workshop with the oh so talented and genuine Dawn Piasta, and
we are very excited to be able to bring her to you! We can`t WAIT to see what amazing creations
come out of that weekend! We will be doing a bit of traveling over the next few months, and
are VERY excited to be planning the layout and schedule of events for our new shop in Gimli,
Manitoba. Lately we seem to swing from giddy anticipation to sheer terror!!! During those
moments of fear of the unknown, I remember that the best thing about our new venture will be
the opportunity to connect with more wonderful, creative people. I know for both George and
I, thats what this business is all about.

APQS Long Arm Rental Certification Classes
Cost: $150
Dates: Friday, February 5th, 12th or 19th - 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Monday, February 8th or 22nd - 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
These dates don’t work with your schedule? Contact us, and we will accomodate you!
We are including a cerificate for one hour free ($25 value) at your first rental for those who
take the class this winter! Description: Whether you have used a longarm machine before or
not, this 3hr class will have you stitching confidently before the class is over.
This class will teach you how to:
- prepare your quilt for quilting - load a quilt on the frame - operate our longarm machines
- line-up & stitch a pantograph pattern - advance your quilt to effortlessly line up each pass.
This class is required to rent our longarm machines.
Every Rental at $25 per hour Includes:
1. Free Glide thread & Pre-wound bobbins
2. Choice of Pantographs (easy-med-hard)
3. New needle with every session
4. Leadergrips (Easy Loading System)
5. Use of top-of-the-line APQS Machines
(stitch regulated, power fabric advance, hydraulic
table lift, bliss drive system, quilt glide) It's like

Introduction to Quilting
$75.00 Includes Pattern
Tuesdays, February 2nd, 9th, 16, 23rd
Discover how easy it is to get started quilting – or to refresh your basic skills. Learn about
safe rotary cutting, sewing an accurate quarter inch seam, basic quilt construction and much
more as you make a lovely Hopscotch lap quilt. A sewing machine in good working order is
required; let us know when you register if you need a rental. You will also need a rotary
cutter, 6 x 24 inch ruler and cutting mat for this class. These items will be available at a
discount in the shop for participants in the intro class.
The Terrific Tuffet Workshop
Saturday, February 6th, 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Class fee: Free,
with purchase of all supplies – cost of all supplies: $150 plus approx 1 yard of fabric
Join us for the day, and create your own fabulous tuffet! Wendy and George will help you
make your own, one of a kind pieced and upholstered footstool! All supplies will be
prepared and available; all you need to do is select your fabric! You will need to bring:
cutting mat and cutter, sewing machine, general sewing supplies, etc. If you have a staple
gun and staples, bringing them will make your process speedier. We guarantee you will be
going home delighted with your new home décor accessory!
Quick Curve Ruler Project Class
Thursdays, February 4th and 11th

Have you been wanting to attempt one of the Quick Curve Ruler projects by the ladies at
Sew Kind of Wonderful, but have felt too intimidated by curved piecing to try? Maybe you
have picked up their fabulous new book in the shop , “One Wonderful Curve”, and have
fallen in love with several projects. Or perhaps, you have tried a QCR project on your own,
and were less than thrilled by the results. This is the class for you!!! Choose ANY QCR
project, and get the guidance you need to complete a project you can be proud of!
Rapid Fire Hunter’s Star
Thursdays, February 18th, 25th

The Hunter’s Star block has a reputation for being challenging. Not so with Deb Tucker’s
fantastic rulers.
Using the Petit or Large ruler, and 2, 3 or 4 fabrics, you will learn how strip piecing and this
fantastic tool make the accurate construction of this block easy as can be. Participants can
make any size project they choose, from a table runner to a King size quilt with the method
taught.
General Information:
Class Fees are payable at the time of registration.
Classes are filled on a first-come basis with full payment.
A full refund is issued if the class is cancelled due to insufficient enrolment.
Class size is a minimum of 4 people, unless otherwise noted.
Supply lists will be available when you register.

Two Exciting Educational Opportunities Taught by Canadian Quiting Celebrities!!!
“One Day Beginner Free Motion Class on The Longarm – Two classes being offered. Friday, February 26
from 9 to 4. Saturday, February 27 from 9 to 4. Maximum Four students per class. Cost: $150
This class is the next step for those that have already taken the Rental Certification course or who already own a
longarm machine with experience quilting pantographs. The class is designed to introduce some basic skills needed to
successful work from the front of a longarm machine. This is a hands on class which will be 50% at the machine and
50% at the drawing board. Students will learn basic free hand designs like meandering, loops, swirls, tear drops and
leaves as well as border designs like curls, loops, swirls, and l’s and e’s. Basic feather designs will also be introduced
in the class but those are more of an intermediate design that take practice. The Stitch in the Ditch technique using a
straight ruler will also be taught. The goal of this class is to create confidence and show you all the possibilities of
working from the front of the machine.
Supplies needed – 1/8” x 18” x 24” plexiglass board and dry erase mark. These will be available to purchase at class.

“I have been quilting for 20 years and in 2008 started my journey into longarm quilting
with the purchase of a APQS Millennium. I was able to transfer my free motion skills
developed on my domestic sewing machine quickly to my longarm and was quilting for
clients within the first month of owning my Millie! My longarm business was well
received locally but with the help of my blog Tamarack Shack Longarm Quilting I started
to received quilt tops from around the world. I am quite active with our local quilt guild
and have developed my teaching skills through classes I have taught at our meeting and
workshops. I have also taught many Free Motion quilting classes privately at my home.
The opportunity to teach longarm quilting is an exciting new venture and I’m looking
forward to share my experience, tips and tricks with new longarm quilters.”

CREATIVE A LA MODE - A Two Day Art Quilting Adventure!!!
Saturday March 19 and Sunday March 20 (Maximum 8 participants) Cost $185
There is a time right before proclaiming a finished project that I reflect on the effort put into
it. This is the very same time I cringe to think what others would say if they saw my besieged
sewing space.
Be warned inspiration can and likely will pop out of anywhere. You are invited to delve into
my ‘creative a la mode’ and share my excitement for the inspired process and passion for art
quilting. Working from a photograph for inspiration, participants will
discover a treasure trove of ideas, exercises, tips, and techniques for
unlocking creativity.
Dawn Piasta has been sewing and drawing since she was a child; fifteen
years ago she put the two skills together and has been a quilt artist ever since.
Her quilts are an extension of her life and life experiences. A vacation, a song,
a person, a flower or simply a feeling inspires her to create. Whether it is a
humanitarian matter or a moment in time she invites viewers to share her
passion for the subject matter.
