Volcom collaborates with Krochet Kids international, supports communities in Northern Uganda Non-­profit Accessories Brand to Team Up with Volcom on Co-­branded Merchandise to Empower Women in Uganda COSTA MESA, Calif. – June 1, 2011 – Volcom announced today a unique partnership with non-­‐profit lifestyle brand, Krochet Kids international (KKi), as a part of its Give Back Series. The collaboration, involving a new line of co-­‐branded hats and t-­‐shirts, consists of four hand-­‐crocheted hats (two men’s and two women’s styles) as well as a collaborative t-­‐shirt for men, women and youth. The collection will be available in select retailers, including Zumiez, Active Ride Shop, Sun Diego, and Pac Sun stores across the country this fall. As with KKi’s current lines, the hats will be handmade in Northern Uganda by a group of 87 women participating in an economic development program by Krochet Kids international (KKi). Through sustained employment, fair wages and education these women are being given the tools to break the cycle of poverty within their communities by providing for themselves and their families. In addition to each purchase already supporting the women and programs in Uganda, Volcom will donate a portion of its proceeds to further reinforce the KKi programs. “We’re so excited about this partnership,” said Derek Sabori, Director of Sustainability & Corporate Social Responsibility at Volcom. “KKi’s work and vision are inspiring and we’re happy to help tell their story through our Give Back Series.” Dedicated to supporting charities that are doing good in their communities, the Volcom Give Back Series teams up with select causes to produce specialized product to raise awareness and resources for the participating organizations. “This collaboration fully embodies the spirit of the Give Back Series,” said Kohl Crecelius, CEO and co-­‐founder of KKi. “With Volcom we’re going to be able to provide even more support to our programs in Uganda and Peru while offering consumers one-­‐of-­‐a-­‐kind product.” Moreover, every product will carry with it the signature of the woman who made it and allow customers the opportunity to read her profile online and write her a thank you note: http://krochetkids.org/projects/ladies.
