SCOTTSDALE
CHARROS
Formed in 1961, the Scottsdale Charros are an all-volunteer group of business and civic leaders dedicated to providing
support and funding for youth programs, educational scholarships and grants to local charities. With a history of
innovative fundraising, the Charros have leveraged spring training baseball as a chief economic driver in Scottsdale.
Funds raised through the sale of Charro Lodge passes and stadium advertising are donated back to the community,
making the Charros one of the community’s largest philanthropic contributors.
In 2014 the Scottsdale Charros awarded more than $750,000 to local charities, schools and in college scholarships and
fellowships. Through our annual grants program, we were able to provide funding for programs at the Boys & Girls Clubs, Camp
Invention, Greater Phoenix Youth at Risk, Junior Achievement, McCormick Stillman Railroad Park, Miracle League, Partners
for Paiute, Pitch4Kidz, Scottsdale Museum of the West, Scottsdale Unified School District, Yes to Children and many more.
Through our education initiatives, we were able to fund scholarships for high school seniors wanting to pursue their
bachelor’s degree in education from one of our three state universities, college seniors participating in ASU’s iTeachAZ
program in one of Scottsdale public schools, and teachers working in SUSD who wanted to continue their education by
pursuing a master’s degree at ASU. Additionally, each spring the Charros host the Outstanding Students & Educators
Awards Banquet, celebrating the year’s best and brightest in the Scottsdale schools.
Spring Training is the premiere annual fund raising event for the Charros, welcoming more than 200,000 people
during the month of March to Scottsdale Stadium, and making it one of the top destinations for spring baseball.
