However, the Spurs quickly snatched back home court with a clinic in Game 3, resulting in a 111-92 rout. San Antonio was simply sensational in Game 3, shooting a blistering 75.8 percent from the field in the first half (a Finals record) en route to a 71-point half and a 21-point lead at the break. It wouldn’t get much better for Miami from there, as the Spurs cruised to the 19-point win and a 2-1 series lead. How did the Spurs carve up Miami’s normally formidable defense? They used a fatal combination of precision passing and scorching outside shooting, as Kawhi Leonard finally broke through in the series with a careerhigh 29 points after playing with foul trouble for the first two games of the series. The breakout 22-year old wowed the nation in the 2013 Finals during this matchup, with his poise and aggressiveness in defending the best player in the world--LeBron James. San Antonio would lose that series, but Leonard had arrived. There are several things Miami has to change in order to avoid being pushed to the brink of elimination, most notably their offensive production. All-star forward Chris Bosh, who tallied the game winning 3 in Game 2, only touched the ball 30 times in Game 3. For comparison, fellow starter Rashard Lewis received 55 touches. Turnovers also plagued the champs, as the Heat gave it up 20 times yielding 23 points to the Spurs. In the end for the Heat, it comes down to their two stars—LeBron James and Dwyane Wade—who played a June game that resembled more of an early season or even pre-season contest. Twelve turnovers between the two will not get it done against a Spurs defense that feeds on live ball turnovers. Game 4 kicks off at 8 PM in the Cinema Tent. at this festival’s spiritual godfather Glastonbury. They will perform in That Tent at 9pm tonight and will remain onsite for an encore appearance on the Sonic Stage at 3pm on PAGE Saturday. What were your expectations of Bonnaroo before your first trip to the festival? I had no idea what to expect at my first Bonnaroo, and that was the best part! But the first time we played the festival, I had been waiting over 6 years to yell, “What’s up Bonnaroo?!?!” Cherub’s Jason Huber Bonnaroo Classes ‘06-‘13 Perhaps no artist on this year’s bill has attended Bonnaroo as many times in as many different capacities as Cherub’s Jason Huber. Since rolling into his first Bonnaroo in 2006 with a few friends, Huber has returned to the fest over the years as a fan, staff member and volunteer, as well as an unofficial performer playing pop-up shows for fans and event workers. (Some of his colorful—and muddy—2009 Bonnaroo campground exploits are documented on the popular YouTube clip “Mud Kid Roo 2009.”) He even brought his dad one year. Finally, in 2012 Huber made his first official appearance as one half of the indie-mindedelectro-duo Cherub in Bonnaroo’s new-music themed café spaces. Bonnaroo also serves as something of a homecoming for Huber and his Cherub musical partner Jordan Kelley: the group formed not too far away at Middle Tennessee State and lists Nashville as the band’s hometown. Their smash “Doses and Mimosas,” inspired by events a few hours away in Alabama, was also a Southeast festival-circuit anthem long before it went viral. This year Cherub will swing back through Bonnaroo as part of a world tour that includes a run through Europe and a stop across the pond I have been going to Bonnaroo since ‘06, so this will be my ninth year in a row on The Farm. I have attended as a patron, a volunteer, a staff member and two years ago I had the chance to perform with Cherub. Bonnaroo and Christmas are my two favorite times of the year! What do you remember most about your own performance? The crowd at our set two years ago was so rowdy that we almost had to cut our set short because people were climbing up the trusses at the stage. We had to briefly pause to ask them to get down so we could play more—and they did. Then we all raged on! No harm, no foul. Describe your craziest Bonnaroo experience. If you search “Mud Kid Roo 2009” on YouTube, that was my campsite. You’ll find a video of Colby Buckler, myself and apparently some guy from Mars Volta, sitting in with This is Art at my bootleg campsite concert, while the “mud kid” had some sort of religious experience with the Bonnaroo mud. What band would you most like to collaborate with at Bonnaroo this year? I want Kanye West to sit in during our set. We’ll give him 30 minutes to rant about whatever is on his mind. THAT would be something! J. Roddy Walston Bonnaroo Class: ‘11 Perhaps there was something in the water. In 2002, while Superfly and AC Entertainment put together the inaugural Bonnaroo right here in Manchester, Tenn., J. Roddy Walston formed The Business just across the state in Cleveland, Tenn. Settling on a mix of rootsy Southern rock, punk energy and indie weirdness that recalls Bonnaroo’s own musical DNA, the band released their first EP later that year, before relocating to Baltimore, Md. in 2004. Walston spent years barnstorming the country with Bonnaroo favorites like The Black Keys, Lucero, Deer Tick and The Lumineers and made their first stop on The Farm in 2011 for a performance at Bonnaroo’s intimate Cafe Where stage in 2011. Thanks to some downtime between What Stage stars The Black Keys and Eminem—and a little rain—J. Roddy Walston & The Business turned on a tent-full of new fans during their short set and even caught My Morning Jacket from the exclusive backstage balcony. This year the band—which also boasts guitarist/vocalist Billy Gordon, bassist/vocalist Logan Davis, and drummer Steve Colmus—return to the festival with Essential Tremors, their most eclectic album yet, which spikes their original sounds with such Bonnaroo sounds as soul, hard rock and even pre-disco-era Bee Gees beats. The group will play This Tent at 11:30pm tonight and offer an intimate set on the Sonic Stage at 6pm tomorrow. As an extra incentive, when you check in at the festival stages you'll get an exclusive photo from that performance if you connect your wristband to your OneDrive account. Plus, every picture you snap with your friends at the photo booth kiosks around the farm will be saved to your OneDrive account, too! Everyone who links their OneDrive to their wristband also gets 100 GB of OneDrive storage for a year to store photos from all their adventures, Bonnaroo and beyond. We’ll have musicians file reports from Friday through Sunday but today we offer the perspectives of Mike Greenhaus and Kyle Hannon. This is also his 12th ‘Roo (he was here the first year but he missed one along the way). Do you have any kosher bacon for the Bonnaroo bar mitzvah? Bonnaroo Special Additions By Rob Slater Landing on the lineup at Bonnaroo is a dream realized for so many young bands. For two in particular this year, that dream came with the affirmation from one of their idols. Royal Teeth and Black Pistol Fire were handpicked by The Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne, Billboard Magazine and the Bonnaroo booking committee to play the festival as facilitated by SonicBids. The soul-crushing sounds of silence Chariots of Fire The gist is this: applications were whittled down by each party, with Coyne and Billboard evaluating hundreds of entries from bands across the country with only two slots available. ““We’re really excited to give up and coming bands a chance to play on such a high profile stage like Bonnaroo,” says Peter Rappaport of SonicBids. Not only do the winners receive a slot at the festival but they also get a $1,000 payment, a full-page spread in Billboard, a full bio on the Bonnaroo website, a pair of VIP tickets and more. All proceeds will be donated directly to the Bonnaroo Works Fund. The first selection is New Orleans outfit Royal Teeth, who released their debut EP Act Naturally in 2011. After signing with Dangerbird Records, Royal Teeth released their long awaited debut album Glow in August of 2013. The six-piece, which features Gary Larsen, Nora Patterson, Joshua Wells, Josh Hefner, Steve Billeaud and Andrew Poe, will perform at the New Music on Tap Lounge at Noon on Friday. Next up is Canadian rock and roll duo Black Pistol Fire. Featuring Kevin McKeown and Eric Owen, the longtime friends began playing music together when they discovered a shared passion for rock and roll music in high school. The two originally founded a rock trio called The Shenanigans, recorded an LP and ultimately decided they wanted a change. With that, Black Pistol Fire was born in Austin, TX in 2009. Black Pistol Fire will take the Café Where Stage on Sunday at 1:30 PM. Sonic Bids is an organization that helps artists and bands get gigs and people book bands. PAGE 9 We only need to hold these seats for two more days OneDrive for Festival Memories By Rob Slater OneDrive is offering a one-of-a-kind festival experience this year at Bonnaroo as fans will have the opportunity to link their wristband to their OneDrive account to access exclusive photos and keep track of the shows they attend throughout the weekend. The process is simple—link your Bonnaroo wristband with the festival website and automatically receive 100 GBs in storage via OneDrive. Fans can connect their RFID wristband to Microsoft OneDrive by tapping their wristband to “check in” at various stages throughout the festival grounds. For each show an attendee checks in for, they’ll have an exclusive photo from that performance to their OneDrive account. Fans will also have access to photo kiosks around the festival grounds where attendees can take pictures of themselves and have them sent to OneDrive as well. In addition to pictures from this year’s festival, fans will also have access to pictures from Bonnaroo past as over 100 images dating back to 2002 through the present year will be added with photos by a variety of prominent photographers including Ryan Maestro, C. Taylor Crothers and Danny Clinch. Another important aspect of the OneDrive involvement with Bonnaroo is in the OneDrive mobile app. Fans can download the app through iOS and Android stores, with many other benefits coming to the mobile app. Pictures taken at various stages throughout the weekend will be immediately stored to the OneDrive account, if both are linked together. The idea behind this is to provide all photos a place to live when they aren’t being posted to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or any other social media site. The overall goal is to improve the new age festival experience where social media and photos have become a priority with festival attendees. OneDrive, previously SkyDrive, is a file hosting service that allows users to upload and sync files to a cloud storage and then access the from a web browser of their local device. It operates as a part of the Windows Live range of online services and allows users to keep the files private, share them with contacts, or make the files public.
