At Fort Hood, we call it BLORA. Outsiders call it Belton
Lake Outdoor Recreation Area. Speedboats racing by,
sunbathers soaking up the Texas rays, families taking in the
shade of sun-faded wooden pavilions. This is what BLORA is
all about. Pay a fee at the gate to get your car in, and from
there, you're no longer an outsider. Sleep under the stars,
make yourself at home in a cozy cabin, catch your dinner at
the lake, or ride off into the sunset on a trusty steed. But don't
get so lost in the moment that you forget your sun block. If
summer won't satisfy you, say goodbye to your email and
escape in winter, perfect weather for outdoor roaming and
romping. BLORA offers that little bit of escape for everyone in
the family.
Located 14 miles northeast of main Fort Hood, the routes
to Belton Lake offer a lovely drive through the countryside.
In the spring, wildflowers and budding trees are plentiful.
At times, deer and wild turkey can be spotted from the road.
The outdoor recreation area is primarily range country, so
watch out for range cattle and tactical military vehicles that
frequently cross the road.
