The Association for the Blind & Visually Impaired of Jefferson County marks 95
years of providing services locally
The Association for the Blind & Visually Impaired of Jefferson Co. is celebrating its 95 th
anniversary this year. An open house will be held on October 18th at JCC, Sturtz Theatre
hall, with a historical display, arts & crafts exhibits and demonstrations from individuals
who are blind or visually impaired. A silver tea will be held in recognition of the silver tea
and open house held at the formal opening of the current location, the Florence E. Hall Memorial, in 1948.
A drawing for a Country Craftsman wooden spinning wheel will also be conducted. The
spinning wheel was part of a program where people who were visually impaired received
lessons on spinning several years ago. At the completion of the lessons, they were given
the spinning wheel. Chances on the spinning wheel, along with a painting, “Twin Towers”,
by blind artist Michael Simmons and a hand-crocheted afghan are available at the Association office or at the anniversary event held at JCC. Tickets are just $1 each or 6 for $5.
The Association is seeking individuals who participated in the spinning classes or details on
the classes. If you have any information, such as specific year, please contact the Association at 782-2451.
SPECIAL THANKS...
We would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to the family of
Viola Van Ness for donations made to North Country Library System Outreach
Services in lieu of flowers at the time of her death. This was a very thoughtful
gesture and one that will benefit the many patrons who use our service.
Memorial gifts are a wonderful way to honor a loved one. If you are not sure
how to do this please ask your funeral home director. It truly is a gift that keeps
on giving.

Joke Corner
If you have a favorite joke that you would like to share we would love to put them in the
newsletter. You can send it in through you blue bag or mail it to me.
A young brunette goes into the doctor's office and says that her body hurts wherever she touches it.
"Impossible," says the doctor. "Show me."
She takes her finger and pushes her elbow and screams in agony. She pushes her
knee and screams, pushes her ankle and screams and so on it goes.
The doctor says, "You're not really a brunette are you?"
She says, "No, I'm really a blonde."
"I thought so," he says. "Your finger is broken."
A wife was making a breakfast of fried eggs for her husband. Suddenly, her husband
burst into the kitchen. 'Careful,' he said, 'CAREFUL! Put in some more butter! Oh my
gosh! You're cooking too many at once. TOO MANY! Turn them! TURN THEM NOW!
We need more butter. Oh my gosh! WHERE are we going to get MORE BUTTER?
They're going to STICK! Careful. CAREFUL! I said be CAREFUL! You NEVER listen
to me when you're cooking! Never! Turn them! Hurry up! Are you CRAZY? Have you
LOST your mind? Don't forget to salt them. You know you always forget to salt them.
Use the! Salt. USE THE SALT! THE SALT!' The wife stared at him. 'What in the world
is wrong with you?You think I don't know how to fry a couple of eggs?' The husband
calmly replied, 'I just wanted to show you what it feels like when I'm driving.'
