General Information
Message From Your Board
Board
The past 3 years have been a bit of a roller coaster for the Cook
Street Village Activity Centre. When a new board was elected in
2012, it was faced with deficit budgets, a dwindling membership,
and the real possibility the Centre would have to close. That
board’s priority had to be to improve the fiscal situation and to
attract new members. We made some good and some regrettable
decisions but managed, in the last three years, to move the budget
into the black, increase modestly our membership, and hire a
wonderful group of staff.
Now it is time for a new board to build on this foundation and
to support our staff in expanding an exciting and innovative
programme for our members and for others in the community. It
is an exciting opportunity to contribute (and to have fun doing
it!). On February 20th, members will be electing at least 5 new
directors to the Board. It is a two year commitment with its own
rewards. If you would like to be part of this new team, let the
folks at the reception desk know. We welcome your interest.
We regret to announce that Friday, December 15th will be the last
day at CSVAC for Tania Keller, Activity Assistant. Tania’s hours
have increased at her other workplace. We will miss her and wish
her all the best in her future endeavours.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, we wish you a joyous,
healthy, and prosperous Holiday Season and New Year.

Volunteers
Volunteer of the Month - Ellen Eckstrand
Ellen Eckstrand started volunteering in
2009. She collects the tickets at our special
events as well as knits with the Busy Hands
group to sell in our craft case.
Ellen grew up and married in Powell River.
She and her husband moved to Victoria in
1983 and they now reside in the Cook St.
Village.
Although Ellen was a Reiki Master for a
time, she is now a psychic and energy healer
and just returned from a conference in
Vancouver where she learned reconnective
healing (connecting with earth’s energy). She says healing can be
done face-to-face as well as long distance. Thank you, Ellen, for
volunteering over the years.
