Breaking Points # 38 Beautiful Sunshine Today! Captain’s Log The All Ireland Junior Mixed Foursomes Finals were on today but unfortunately our team lost in the Semi Finals to Lisburn GC. I would like to thank the Captain Donal Cronin and his team for their efforts in getting us to the All Ireland Semi final and to commiserate with them on a day when things just didnt go their way. But that’s golf and in particular foursomes golf. Best of luck to Terry Brady and our Fred Daly who take part in the All Ireland Finals in Moyola Park next Tuesday 25th August. Stephen had what can only be described as an absolutely blistering start. By the 6th , thanks to 2 eagles(3,5) and 2 birdies(1,6) he was 6 under after 6!!. His only blemish was triple bogey on 9 courtesy of an awkward bunker shot. Rory Callagy welcomed Lady Captain, Lady President, members of Margaret’s family, members of the Special Olympics team and members of the Fairways club and friends. He spoke about Margaret’s commitment and dedication and the preparation and practice which was required to perfect her golf game . Margaret has represented her club, her county but above all her country and has honoured it by her monumental achievement of a gold medal. Rory stated that the Fairways club is vibrant and full of promising talent too. So he looks forward to the third gold medal in golf returning to Sligo. Lady Captain Carmel and Vice-Captain Jeff also welcomed Margaret and Lady Captain Carmel made a presentation to her. Margaret was congratulated by some American visiting golfers also. Kate Armstrong took the 9 hole Red tees title with Grace Burke the runner up. Kate received a beautiful Argento bracelet from the Lady Captain to acknowledge her win. The Green Tees was a hotly contested affair with Sophie Reynolds being unfortunate to lose her drive on the 8th tee breaking her momentum. Maebh McLoughlin (28) took the title with 20 pts including back to back pars on the 4th and tough 5th hole. Ruth Flanagan (34) was second with 18 pts and Keela Scanlon (36) was 3rd with 17 points. The victory will see Maebh's handicap being cut to 24 on the Junior Tees. Boys => From => 1996 => Wednesday Golf (5pm to 7pm) Girls Alliance - Enniscrone The Girls Golf Club will travel to Enniscrone on Saturday 22nd August to participate in the Junior Alliance which starts at 11am. There will be no Saturday competition in Bomore this week. Family Scramble - Sunday 6th September - Bomore at 2pm (Shotgun Start) The Junior Club are running a family scramble in Bomore on Sunday 6th September followed by food and a presentation of prizes. Format is 4 ball scramble with a minimum of 2 Juniors (U/18) and 1 Full Member. Spaces are limited so if you are interested in taking part please contact pmcloughlin@hotmail.com ASAP. This Wednesday there will be putting games on the practice green at 5pm followed by a fun 5 hole scramble in Bomore Girl Captains Prize to the Girls Last Saturday’s competition was won by Jack Flanagan with 41 points and Sean McLoughlin was second with 39 Sean with Winner Cian O’Connor and runner up Fonn Hoare both from Roscommon Well done to Sean McLoughlin (on left) on finishing 3rd in the Connaught Close in under 12s. Sean is only 10 and is already down to 14 handicap! The final of the Blackwell Cup (9 holers) will be between Donnacha O'Brien and Liam McLoughlin. The final of the Godsell Cup will be between Sean McLoughlin and Sam Dunne. The Girl Captains Prize will take place this Sunday 23rd August in Bomore. The 18 hole girls will tee off at 1.30 followed by the 9 hole red & green tees at 2.30pm. There will be a BBQ and prize giving directly after the event in Bomore.
