2013-2 REGISTRATION GUIDE 1. WHERE CAN YOU REGISTER? § You can register from any computer that has an internet connection, by using the following internet browsers: Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome or Netscape. In case you don’t have any, you can download mozilla at: http://www.mozilla.org/es-MX/firefox/new/ ACCESS THE LAW SCHOOL WEBSITE § Access the law school website: http://www.derecho.unam.mx § Select the following option: Open University. § Select Registration on the left side menu § A new window that contains the Registration System will be displayed. § Sometimes, when c l i c k i n g o n REGISTRATION the following dialog window may appear; if so, please, click on: I understand the risks § T h e n , t h e n e x t dialog will appear, click on: Add exception § Finally click on: Confirm exception of risks. ACCESSING THE REGISTRATION SYSTEM § In order to access the system, you need to type your USER’S NAME and PASSWORD correctly. Be careful if a window with the following message appears after you type your user’s name and password: The password administrator can remember this information and use it the next time you visit this website. Do you want the administrator to remember this information? Warning! Do always choose NEVER FOR THIS SITE, because if you answer affirmatively, every time a person opens the system on this specific computer will be able to access your registration information with the access data the computer has saved. You will be able to close your registration procedure if you agree with the schedule you selected. This will happen from the very first time you access in order to make sure that it won’t be modified. 2.CUSTOMIZE YOUR PASSWORD § When you access the System for the first time, you can see that your password has been assigned by the school services office previously and it corresponds to your date of birth; eventually you will be able to change it. For security purposes it is necessary for you to do it immediately, so that you can be the only one who has access to the information you register. Remember that it is your own responsibility. § To change your password, click on the Personal Data section in the Home Menu and then select Change of Password, a new window will appear asking you for the following information: current password, new password and the confirmation of the password. The password has to have from 8 to 12 c h a r a c t e r s ( l e t t e r s a n d numbers). Remember that the system identifies small and capital letters and you must not use special characters, for example, (.!·$%/*/+&?¿.....). § 3. CREATE YOUR SCHEDULES § § § § § In order to create your schedules you need to be aware of the following information: If you belong to the 1471 or 1341 plans, you may register up to 7 courses during the regular period and up to three during the special final exams period. If you belong to the 1139 plan you can register up to 6 courses during the regular period and up to three during the special final exams period. If you belong to the 0891 plan you can register up to 8 courses during the regular period and up to three during the special final exams period. You won’t be able to register any courses that may need prerequisite courses. One specific course can be registered only once during the regular period. If in both cases the grade is 5 or NS (no show), you won’t be able to register it for the third time and you will only be able to pass with a special final exam. 4. CHECKING THE COURSE AVAILABILITY § Once you are in the system, you will be able to observe the main menu on the upper side of the screen; select Consult, then s e l e c t G r o u p s , i n t h i s section, you will be asked to indicate the semester and the course you need; once you have done it click on Accept to display the results. If the group you are looking for is not displayed, that means that it is already full. 5. ADDING COURSES § Select Registration, in the main menu and click on Adding; in this window, you may select the semester and the course you want to register form the pull-down menus . § The desired groups will be displayed immediately, select the one you are interested in, check marking the option of the last column. The group and the course you selected will automatically be displayed at the bottom of the screen. § If you want to register another course select the semester of the course again from the pulldown menus. § Once you have selected ALL the courses click on . REGISTER 6.DROPPING COURSES § Select Registration from the main menu; then select the following option: Dropping, all the courses you have added will be displayed, select those that you don’t want anymore by check marking the inset on the column marked as X for each one. In order to save the changes, click on Accept, if you don’t want to save any changes just click on Clean. 7. REGISTRATION APPLICATION PROOF § Before you exit the system, verify your registration application proof on the screen and make sure you have registered all your courses. § Don’t forget to print it. 8. EXITING THE SYSTEM § Once you finish your registration procedure, close your session by clicking in the button that reads: EXIT THE SYSTEM. if you don’t do so, your registration procedure will remain open and may be modified by another person who may use that computer. 9. REGISTRATION VALIDATION § You will be able to obtain your final proof of registration validated by the General Direction of School Administration (DGAE) after the period for adding and dropping courses finishes, at the following website: http://www.dgae-siae.unam.mx You will also be able to have it validated at the School Services offices before the semester is over. GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS FOR A SUCCESSFUL REGISTRATION § Consider the prerequisite courses (see the prerequisite courses structure of the 1471,1341,1139 and 0891 plans at: http://www.dgae-siae.unam.mx/oferta/planes.php) § A course cannot be registered for a third time in a regular period. § The minimum amount of courses to be registered in a regular period is 1 and the maximum amount is 6 for the 1139 plan, and 7 for the 1341 and 1471 plans. § The minimum amount of courses to be registered in a regular period is 1 and the maximum amount is 8 for the 0891 plan. § Remember that you will have to pass the courses needed to get your degree (language, Computing and Thesis workshop). If you belong to the 1139 study plan you may take it as a seventh option and if you belong to the 1341 study plan you may take it as an eighth course. To ask for it, you will have to register it in the registration system in the fifth position, and you will be able to select one more course. GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS FOR A SUCCESSFUL REGISTRATION § § § § § § § § § Those students affected by article 22 of the General Regulations of Registration will not be able to register in regular courses. (See terms of application in the cover of their academic transcripts). Students have 60 regular days to ask for a correction or review of regular or special exams, once the grade has been printed in their transcripts. Check your transcripts at www.dgae-siae.unam.mx There is no second round for the final special exams. An annual registration payment must be made. The vouchers and instructions will be given in the school services office. (No payment has to be done during this semester). Students must register on the dates and under the terms indicated in the corresponding instructions manuals and the University Regulations, in accordance with article 28 of the General Regulations of Registration of the UNAM. Check the activity calendar of the Distance-Learning University 2013-2. The registration for the 2013-2 semester will be done from January 24 to 26, 2013 at http://www.derecho.unam.mx/ submenu Open University.
