A BEAUTIFUL STORY ABOUT TRUE LOVE
Sometimes I get a beautiful story sent to me. Here’s one.
I am a doctor working at a little clinic. At about 8:15 AM on a Tuesday, an old man in his 80’s
walked into my clinic to get out some stitches he had received a few days earlier. It was a very
busy morning, and I asked him to please sit and wait. He told me he was in a rush as he had a very
important engagement he couldn’t miss at 9:00 AM. As he sat there, I couldn’t help noticing that
he kept checking his watch. I decided to treat him since the doctor in charge was extremely busy,
and I knew it would take at least an hour until he could see him.
I took off his bandages and saw that the wound was healing nicely. While I was gently pulling out the stitches, I
asked him where he was off to that was more important than taking out stitches. Was it also with a doctor?
“No,” said the old man, “Not a doctor. I am going to have breakfast with my wife, who is in the hospital.”
“Why was she hospitalized, if I may ask?” “She’s been there for a few years now,” he answered.
“She has Alzheimer’s and needs constant care.” As I finished taking out the stitches, I asked the man if his wife
would be worried if he were late to their breakfast. “No,” he said quietly. “And she never will. She hasn’t
recognized me in over five years.” I was astonished by this and just had to ask, “And you go to
her every morning although she doesn’t know who you are.”
The man smiled, put his hand on mine and said: “She may not know who I am, but I know who
she is, and I remember for both of us.” And he shook my hand, thanked me and left me standing
there, my body shaking with sudden emotion. “This,” I said to myself. “This is what true love,
movie love is all about. This is what I want for myself and I vowed, at that moment to find such love.

Papacy [‘pāpəsē ] noun: papacy plural noun: papacies
the office or authority of pope Definition from Oxford Dictionaries,
Oxford University Press. We have Archdiocese of Washington’s permission
to use this resource which they authored in 2008. The Phila. Archdiocese and
our parish staff edited/updated it for use here. We hope this Parish Bulletin
Papacy series refreshes your enthusiasm to chat comfortably with family,
neighbors, friends, co-workers, even complete strangers, about Pope Francis
and our Roman Catholic Church. Ed. Note: Email Bulletined@saintjohnbosco.org.
The Power of the Keys is understood
as authority to forgive, to make authoritative doctrinal judgments and to
determine and enforce disciplinary
pronouncements for the universal
Church. Mt 16:19.
CATECHESIS III: The Pope as Bishop
2. What is the Pope’s cathedral church? The Pope’s cathedral is the Basilica of St. John Lateran.
St. John Lateran was the first parish church established in Rome and therefore became the Pope’s cathedral.
It is considered the “Mother Church of all Christian Churches”, and even has its own feast day in our church calendar!
FYI.....Diocese vs. Archdiocese. The latter designates a diocese e.g., Philadelphia, which has particular status in
terms of size of Catholic population, historical import, or perhaps as capital of a country, e.g., Washington, D.C.
There is no “canonical” (legal) difference between them. A “bishop” has no less power or authority than an
“archbishop.” Given Rome’s prominence, one would think it would be archdiocese. However, by long tradition
Rome is spoken of as a diocese. The Pope is therefore “bishop”, not “archbishop”, of Rome.
3. What does the term hierarchy mean?
The term refers to an ordered ranking of levels of authority in any organization. Jesus Himself constituted the
Church as a hierarchy by His naming Peter as rock or foundation upon whom Jesus built His Church. To him
and to his successors the Lord entrusted the governance of that Church by conferring upon them the Power of
the Keys. (See picture caption above right.) Thus, the Church is a hierarchical organization of the People of
God under direction of Pope and College of Bishops. It is important to understand that, constituted in this way
by the Lord himself, the Church is not free to replace its hierarchical structure with any other kind of
structure.
4. What is the nature of the relationship between Pope and Bishops of the Catholic Church?
Pope and bishops of the Catholic Church share a relationship identical to that between St. Peter and the other 11
Apostles. The gospels speak of the Apostles as “the Twelve” indicating a corporate identity. Jesus Christ
“constituted them in the form of a college or permanent assembly at the head of which Jesus placed Peter,
Chosen from among them. Just as by the Lord’s institution, St. Peter and the rest of the apostles constitute a
single apostolic college, so in like fashion the Roman Pontiff, Peter’s successor, and the bishops, the successors
of the apostles, are related with and united to one another.” Jesus gave the Power of the Keys (office of binding
and loosing) primarily to Peter but also to the other members of “the Twelve”. Jesus gave all the Apostles,
together with Peter, the mission to “go forth and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” The
pastoral office of Peter and the other Apostles is the very foundation of the Church and is continued today by the
bishops under the primacy of the Pope.
The primacy of Peter as head of the Apostles is shown very concretely in another aspect of the Pope’s
relationship with bishops. Christ called the Apostles and instituted them as a College of Bishops. Thus, the
Pope, particularly in his role as the Vicar of Christ on earth, calls those who are to be bishops and appoints them
as members of the College of Bishops. Only the Pope, head of the college of bishops, can act as Christ’s Vicar,
appointing successors to the original Apostles. Just as the Pope is the visible source and foundation of unity for
the universal Church, individual bishops are the visible source and foundation of their own particular Churches
or dioceses. These particular Churches are not “branch offices” of the universal Church, nor should the universal
Church be considered simply the sum, or federation of all particular Churches. Rather, a diocese “constitutes a
particular Church in which the one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church of Christ is truly present and operative.”
Bishops of particular churches are a college; each shares the Pope’s concern for all the Churches.

tradition. Recognizing the power of faith in living the Gospel, we support Hispanic Catholics in
formation and education in the faith and in continuing the mission of Jesus Christ.
The Phila. Archdiocese Office for Hispanic Catholics accomplishes this through:
 Supporting liturgies and services in Spanish at 34 parish locations incl. St. John Bosco, Hatboro.
 Supporting and collaborating with the programs offered by the Mobile Catholic Institute,
which promote a deeper understanding of the Catholic faith and develop more effective ways of
proclaiming the Gospel.
 Advocating for better pastoral services to the Hispanic community in the Archdiocese.
 Collaborating with different offices of the Archdiocese to improve the services offered for the
Hispanic community.
 Workshops
 Cultural events
 Seeking out and encouraging future ministerial personnel for service in our Hispanic community

Jesucristo.
etc.

some help coping with a loved one’s memory loss, you might want to consider this
book by Charlotte Wood (Author), Dennis Auth (Illustrator) from Brandylane

www.amazon.com says this:
Tasha loves grandfather and knows that PaPa loves her. But lately, PaPa has begun
to forget things. He's often confused and upset. Sometimes, he doesn't even
recognize his own family. How can Tasha's grandmother help her see that while
PaPa is changing, his love for Tasha has not? Remembering for Both of Us is a
touching story of a child's first glimpse of Alzheimer's and a reminder that ties of
the heart transcend age and illness.
