How’s your Blue Lodge doing? How
many men are going through their degree
work? If you don’t know the answer to
these two questions, maybe it’s time you
get more involved. If your lodge happens
to have its regular meeting on a night that
seems to constantly interfere with another
commitment of some sort, maybe there
is another lodge nearby where you could
take out a plural membership. This would
enable you to get active again.
Our new members have to be Master
Masons. And where better to find
them than in lodge? And showing up
periodically to just promote Shrinedom is
not, in my opinion, the best way to attract
Masons to the Shrine. If you are active in
the lodge, you will have many occasions
to share with your brothers what being a
Shriner has meant to you.
Carol and I continue to be overwhelmed
by the kindness and generosity of Shriners
and their ladies. It makes no difference
where we go; the fraternal bond is strong!
We certainly hope you feel the same love
we do when you attend the various Shriner
functions.
The “Black Camel” is wreaking havoc
on Zor so far in 2013. With two thirds of
our membership 65 years of age or older,
we will continue to be challenged for the
foreseeable future. As I have said many
times, we will go anywhere, anytime to
conduct a brief “Cold Sands” ceremony
for new candidates. Just contact me at
rgorsuch@oakbankonline.com or call the
Zor Shriner office at 608-833-6343.
Question of the month: When was the
last time you signed a petition for a new
member?
Remember why you became a Shriner!

June has even more
Recorder events starting with
Grand Lodge, Mehara Circuses in Eau
Claire and Menomonie, 13 Variety Shows,
and the Mini Car Luau. Information on all
of the events is found in this Zephyr.
When you plan to attend any of the
events, please review the Zephyr and use
the coupons to make your reservations
when required. Calls at the last minute
makes extra work for whoever is in charge
of making the arrangements.
The latest update on unpaid members is
about 160 unpaid compared to last year’s
200 but keep in mind we have about 100
less members than we had a year ago.
If you know of a Noble who has passed
away and lived in an area that is not in
the Madison area, please call our office or
send an e-mail with the name of the Noble,
Date of Death, and is there a surviving
spouse. It is embarrassing calling Nobles
on their Birthday or trying to contact them
on other matters and finding out they have
passed away. Your help will be greatly
appreciated.
A big thank you to all of the Nobles
who attend the many Zor events and
support your local club or unit and other
Shrine functions. Keep up the good work
and have fun.

Shriners International Awareness Day
(TAMPA, FL) Shriners everywhere
should mark their calendars and
make plans to participate in Shriners
International Awareness Day on June 6.
The date recognizes the day the Imperial
Council was formed – June 6, 1876.
On this day every year, Shriners are
asked to wear their fez, if appropriate,
or hat, shirt, pin or other item with the
fraternal logo to help recognize fellow
Shriners and increase awareness of
Shriners International.
We encourage Shriners everywhere
to organize events at their temples or in
their local communities and to invite
the public to participate, in order to
increase awareness about the local
temple or Shriners International. Other
suggestions include posting information
about Shriners International Awareness
Day on your temple websites and in
your temple calendars, publications and
electronic communications. Be sure
that each and every noble knows about
Shriners International Awareness Day and
encourage them to participate.
The day of recognition is an
opportunity for every Shriner to share
information about the fraternity, its
history and the benefits of becoming part
of an organization that is dedicated to fun,
fellowship and philanthropic support.

3rd Annual Cycle and Classic Car Ride
Story and photos by Todd “Honda Rebel” Wohlert
It was a beautiful day for riding
Saturday May 18 at the 3rd Annual Zor
Shriners Ride! The Zor Midgets minicar unit put together another ride for
motorcycles and classic cars. This scenic
trip went through the Sparta, Warrens,
and Black River Falls areas. Breakfast
started at 7:00 am, provided by Valley
Lodge #60 in Sparta. Then the blessing
of the bikes was at 8:15 am with the first
group pulling out at 9:00. One group of
people traversed the route in an old RV
and had a truly legendary experience.
At the end of the ride, the raffle was
held and staggering number of door
prizes were given away. It was a safe
ride, a fun ride, and it got the word out
about the Shriners and the work we do.
The committee worked on this all year:
Brian Rauch & Donna Jacobson, Jerry &
Jean Mattakat, Bob Drawver, Al & Penny
Brueggen, Stan & Nancy Spivey, Al

Let’s see what they come up with next

Wausau Honors Potentate and Entertain Nobility
The Wausau Potentate Party Saturday, April 27, to honor Potentate
Bob Gorsuch and Lady Carol at the Holiday Inn & Suites packed them
in this year. The Wausauken Indians and their Ladies used Ill. Sir
Bob’s motto on the back of his coin “But We’ve Always Done It That
Way (NOT)” and had an all new location for this year’s party, safety
meeting, quarterly meeting, and other events throughout the day. It
was a jam packed day with a Hospital Dad’s safety meeting, wine
& cheese tasting for Honored Ladies and Noble Ladies, Quarterly
meeting, and banquet with hospitality afterwards.
Kent & PP Tom kept the hospitality room running smoothly.

The Roadrunners are practicing their maneuvers at the New Richmond
American Legion. Their first parade was in Woodville.
The parade season is here! The Firehouse Jesters from La Crosse had
their first parade in Westby.
PROMOTE
YOURSELF
IN YOUR
COMMUNITY!
Experience the pride of helping others
. . . . and feel like a kid again
As a member of the Zor Roadrunners you will
be a part of the international fundraising activities for Shriners Hospitals for Children®, one
of North Americas leading care providers for
children from birth to age 18.
Freemasonry and their associated bodies, have
experienced increased popularity because of
their sincerity and moral value system. You
make a direct impact on people’s lives without
any fanfare.
You experience a sense of pride found nowhere else in the world because you are helping children enjoy a more fulfilling life.
Freemasons do not solicit membership. People who wish to join do so of their own free
will. This makes their contribution to society
even more meaningful.
To be a part of the Zor Roadrunners you must
first be a Freemason and become a Shriner.
Freemasons believe in friendship, morality
and brotherly love and work quietly to support
those who cannot help themselves.
The Roadrunners are shown with Miss Wisconsin,
Who went on to be named Miss America
If you would like to be a part of the famous
Zor Roadrunners and would like to join, just
ask any member of the St. Croix Valley Shrine
Club, your local Masonic Lodge or the secretary of Zor Roadrunners: Rod Rommel, 715425-2726 or email Noble Rommel at rodrommel@comcast.net
The Road Runners are running
this ad in local media in effort to
recruit and raise awareness. Your
club or unit can do something
similar (or completely rip off this
one) in your area. Put your ad
together and send it to the Zor
office for approval. Don’t hide your
Shrine light under a barrel anymore.
Let people know who you are and
what you do as a Shriner AND,
the most important part, let them
know how they can be a part of the
action, too!

News from Cincinnati
Specialty care beyond the burn
Shriners Hospitals for Children
Referral Cards are Working!
Shriners Hospitals for Children - Cincinnati doesn’t always know who their patients will be or what type of injuries they will have, but one thing is for sure,
the new referral cards the Shriners are distributing are definitely bringing these
patients to our hospital. Shriners across the map are busy taking every opportunity to pass out the new referral cards to families, directing patients to Shriners
Hospitals for Children for treatment and specialty care.
As we enter the summer season and outside activities increase, the need to
reach out to patients and families becomes even greater. The summer months
bring thoughts of pool safety, bike helmets and sunscreen; but also a host of
other safety concerns. Parents should be aware of; lawnmower accidents, dog
bites and other traumatic injuries that can cause devastating injuries to children;
wounds and disfigurements that can have an impact on children for the rest of
their lives. All of these injuries can be treated at Shriners Hospitals for Children
– Cincinnati and the Shriners’ referral cards are helping our hospital to connect
with these patients.
The referral cards are working to highlight the specialty work being done at
Shriners and are also helping to build a level of patient satisfaction. These satisfied families will in turn send others to the Cincinnati Hospital who are in search
of specialty care. It is important for people to know the expertise we have in
Cincinnati goes well beyond the burns.
Do you know of a child we can help? Can we supply you with more
referral cards?
Now is the time to spread
the word about Shriners
Hospit als for Children.
Please feel free to contact
Debbie Harrell, Director of
Professional Relations at
the Cincinnati hospital with
inquiries. Debbie can be reached at
513-872-6277 or at her Email address:

Join Zor In Duluth
For Summer M.S.A.
Illustrious Sir Bob Gorsuch and Lady
Carol are encouraging you and your
unit to attend the 2013 Midwest Shrine
Association (MSA) Summer Session
15-17 August. It may have been several
years since your unit has participated
in this annual MSA event. It is entirely
possible that many Zor members may not
have experienced this fun-filled event.
This year, the event is about as close
to ZOR-land as it gets, hosted by AAD
Shriners in Duluth, MN. There will be
two big parades - one Thursday marking
the arrival of the Midwest Shrine Temples
and another on Saturday to close the annual
event. On Friday, unit and individual
competition takes place amongst the
temples at various sites. There will
also be unit breakfasts, lunch, or dinner
meetings. There is also entertainment for
those in attendance Friday evening. Of
course, there will be the Hospitality Suite
open often throughout the weekend. The
preliminary web site (www.aadshrine.
org/msa2013.htm ) is up so you will be
able to review a complete schedule of the
planned happenings. Online registration
will be open on or before May 1.
This annual event is an opportunity to
meet, have fun, and exchange ideas with
Nobles from throughout the Midwest.
Most importantly it is your opportunity to
show your Potentate how proud you are to
be a ZOR Shriner.
More information has been sent to
your unit’s E-mail address. If for some
reason, the information has not been
received contact Joe Harker.
