IKEA FAMILY news 05 My PAX story We believe getting dressed should be about inspiration, not irritation. With PAX/KOMPLEMENT, you can tailor any number of combinations along with your lifestyle changes, while taking care of all your clothes, shoes and accessories. Textile boxes are a fast, easy way to put stuff away. They hold a lot and still look neat inside your wardrobe. My PAX story A place for everything Double your hanging space with a two-level system. 10 Keep drawers at chest level. Anything higher and you may have difficulty looking into it. Add a shelf above the open drawer for added storage space. Year GUARANTEE Made to last PAX wardrobes come with a 10-year guarantee. And we’re confident they will last even longer because of the extensive testing we put them through. W hatever your bedroom storage needs, the PAX wardrobe and customisable KOMPLEMENT interior fittings are the solution. Starting out on your own As a young adult, you’ll see the wonders of the world and start wondering how you could possibly do everything you need to do in 24 hours. Time is a luxury few can afford. So, you need your daily routines to be done as quickly as possible. That includes choosing your outfit of the day. Instead of pulling stuff out pieceby-piece, let your wardrobe do the matching for you. Use pull-out clothes rails and shoe organisers to get a quick look at your options. You can also match tops and bottoms easily this way. Sometimes you need a little creative thinking to maintain order in an already full wardrobe. Pre-drilled holes in PAX wardrobe frames allow placement of shelves, baskets, clothes rails and more, to maximise the use of space and allow for cleverer ways to organise your life. Wire baskets are perfect for t-shirts and make it easy to find what you’re looking for. If you have recently added ‘work attire’ to your category of clothes and need space to store them, simply get add-on clothes rails. Otherwise, you can always expand your current PAX wardrobe. Whatever your needs, start by planning your own PAX wardrobe at www.IKEA.co.th/paxplanner 06 IKEA FAMILY news Shoe boxes with see-through plastic windows keep your favourites dustfree and in plain view. Pull-out trouser hanger keeps your pants neat, wrinkle free and easy to access. The perfect romance The day two hearts become one is the most celebrated of all. It is also the day you discover your partner’s more eccentric approaches to domestic logistics. Fret not! Be it his need for dedicated sock and necktie drawers or her insistence on keeping the multitude of handbags perfectly aligned, the PAX wardrobe is meant to accommodate all that. After all, you played a part in designing it. To avoid territorial conflict, try separating his side from her side with an interior panel. You can then choose KOMPLEMENT interior fittings that suit your own needs. A new life Things get a little more complicated when children come into the picture. Dedicating two to three drawers usually does the trick for babies and toddlers, it might soon be time to vacate a section of the wardrobe as your child grows older. Start by moving the miscellaneous items storage from the bottom to the top of your wardrobe. This will keep them away from your child’s inquisitive hands and clear space for easy-to-reach drawers or clothes rails. Install drawer organisers to keep mess to a minimum when your child rummages through the drawer for a pair of socks. IKEA FAMILY news 07 My PAX story Pull-out drawers with interior organisers gives you quick access to the back of your wardrobe and keeps accessories and intimates neat and tangle-free. My PAX story Instead of picking a wardrobe from the IKEA floor, I wanted to delve deep into the world of customisation and IKEA’s. So I logged on to IKEA’s website and used their PAX wardobe planner tool www.IKEA.co.th/paxplanner. 1 1. Start by choosing a style that suits you. I wanted a darker colour to go with the wall. 2. Next, customize the size of your wardrobe. There are three different aspects of your wardrobe you can customize now. I started with the door because I want to see my outfits in all its glory, and be able to check myself out when I downward dog in my room, I added mirrors on the surface of the doors. Custom closet, oh-so-easy. IKEA’s Customisable PAX wardrobes makes your closet issues a thing of the past. 2 3 L My closets (yes, I have two) is an abyss - an abyss of travel and adventures, amongst other things that I hold very dear, but the shell that holds all these memories together is a tragic mess. Instead of picking a wardrobe from the IKEA floor, I wanted to delve deep into the world of customization and IKEA’s. So I logged on to IKEA’s website and used their PAX wardrobe planner tool. You can customize the frames on the inside too if you’d like smaller columns, or larger ones, and what kind of wood you want the inside of your wardrobe to be. ike many unmarried Thai people in their twenties, I am living with my parents in their homely house that we just moved into recently. This also means that some of the furniture in my old room needs to be moved with me. With my bed goes behind me since I’ve bought a lovely queen-sized one from IKEA. I now have a different problem. I am like the other girls that spend half of my time shopping and the other half actually travelling. Trying hard not to shop, and failing most of the time. 4. My favorite part is saved for last: customizing the interior. Start with a preset, and delete and add various options out of or into your wardrobe. I wanted three different sections for mine specifically - one for tops, one for bottoms, and the last for dresses. I have drawers for knickers and essentials, some space right on top for my bags. 5. Add them all to your shopping list, select which IKEA store you want to get the wardrobe from and the site tells you whether your bits and bobs are in stock. What a wicked idea. Print the page and you’re set to shop for a new wardrobe. Remember to drop by the restaurant for IKEA’s delicious nuggets. As for me, my abyss of adventures and memories now have a prettier home. When every single “first” feels like a huge milestone. It’s said that development is a journey, but it sometimes feels like a race. So how can we at Children’s IKEA help you keep up? Our products help your child to safely grow and develop, so you can focus on the more important things in life – like watching your little one take those first wobbly steps. 5 3 A soft mood light at night can give the baby a sense of safety and also helps you find your way without waking your little one up. Baby care 6 Good solutions for smooth routines Changing your baby can at times be a messy affair and even backbreaking! Why not do it comfortably at waistlevel. Plus having practical storage keeps diapers and wet wipes within easy reach. Eating Storage your kids can use for years. TROFAST takes care of your kid’s favourite thing –toys! Children’s IKEA 4 The world is an adventure, with every sight a new learning adventure comes with a few cuddly creatures designed to face down, so your baby is looking up at friendly faces. 2 Sleeping bags create a safe sleep environment by removing the risk of baby getting tangled in sheets or blankets. They also keep baby at a comfortable temperature without the risk of kicking off the covers. 1 From being fed to eating by yourself Between the mashed bananas and flying rice, it’s easy to forget that learning to eat by themselves is an important part of babies’ development. But learning takes practice, which is why we’ve created some helpers to make it easier for the both of you. 7 MATA 4-piece eating set 79 THB/set Little babies don’t like the taste of metal in their mouths, which is why our feeding spoons are made of plastic. Playing Toys that support your baby’s development To ensure safety, we use seams that are tested to withstand tough play and embroidered eyes instead of detachable parts that risks being swallowed. 8 Sleeping Everything to keep your baby safe and sound Newborns spend most of their days sleeping. Kids like to have their own space where they can feel safe and do their own things without someone nagging. Be it a blanket fort or the space under their bed tent, it’s a fun way for them to be independent. 3 8 …and for many years to come. S oon after your darling took his first cuddly steps and said his first words, he’ll start picking up more words and learn many new things about the world around him. That’s where he’ll get started on his first question. And then the second, third, and so forth – all starting with the hardest word of all: ‘why’. Why? Because the age of 3 to 7 is the age of wonders. At this time, curiosity reigns and play is serious stuff. Children of this age learn by exploring, asking and imitating. The world is a playground for them, so let them play, draw, sing, run around, read, and do whatever it is that catches their interest. 1 Prepared for tough love Who thinks about safety when having lots of fun? Not kids, they’ve got more important things to do – so it’s our responsibility to see the hidden dangers. As with all our children’s products, IKEA PS LÖMSK is made with rounded corners, no protruding parts, and plastic that bends rather than cracks. An extra wide and weighted foot makes it tip-proof (if you’re not allowed to spin it at full speed, then what’s the point?) 16 IKEA FAMILY news 6 6 Sure, children will play with their food and eat their toys, all while climbing up and down your furniture. But it does help them develop their fine motor skills. So while your iPad can be a great babysitter, try not to rely on it too much. Instead, make space for activities. Use practical furniture that can be moved around and cleaned up easily. As he grows older, you’ll be surprised at how fast he outgrows his clothes. More complex games, school and outdoor activities also mean that efficient storage solutions are a must, especially if he still can’t let go of his 6-year old teddy bear. Mirror, mirror, on the wall. Who’s the cutest of them all? Let your child discover herself in this playful, impact-resistant and child-proof mirror. Maybe she’ll be convinced that it’s finally time to take a bath too! A great way to keep things off the floor, and for the occasional pair of pants they can wear again. Combine with hanging baskets for extra storage. 2 Furniture and toys that’s true to life is a great way to spark role-playing games. IKEA FAMILY news 19 STAIN Busters So you just got home after a long day’s work, and your little girl comes running eager to tell you about her day. She had learnt about different types of flowers in school. So she drew some for you, except that it’s on the wall. With love and crayons. Instead of getting angry and worrying about repainting the wall, you can try using baby oil or toothpaste. Here are some other cleaning tips using common items found around the home. Refresh your chopping board Squeeze a few drops of lemon juice on the board, rub and let it sit for about 20 minutes before rinsing. Removing water stains on wooden furniture Use hairdryer on low heat to dry the affected area. Then rub olive oil, used tea bags or even mayonnaise over the area. The oil and tannins will act as a natural polish. 20 IKEA FAMILY news Removing juice/red wine stains Spilled red wine on your candlelight dinner? Save your date by pouring saltwater over it! Table salt also helps lift stubborn red wine and those yellow perspiration stains. Dissolve 4 tablespoons of salt in 1 litre of hot water and sponge the stain with the solution before washing the garment. Odour neutraliser Besides stain-removal properties, Baking Soda is also good for neutralising nasty odours e.g. baby spit-up on clothes. Removing grease stains Talcum powder, baby powder or even (same-colour) chalk is good for absorbing grease from fabrics. Easter is the time of year when children parade the streets dressed (very convincingly) as witches. Brooms in hand, they’d go knocking on doors, singing songs, telling stories or handing out drawings in return for sweet treats. It is Sweden’s veryown Halloween season for the kids, complete with costumes, candies and a little adventure. See what’s new in the store, find a product and create a shopping list. The tradition is a remnant from the past when people thought that Easter is the time when witches fly away on brooms for sinful living in Blåkulla. The folklore didn’t only give children a reason to play dress-up, but also gave adults a chance to party around huge bonfires initially lit to scare away these witches. Some shops are also selling witchthemed trinkets and delicacies during this season. MOBILE APP An old tradition and a new beginning Download the new IKEA App Now. As the snow melts and flowers bloom, Easter is also the time when homes are decorated in colourful feathered birchtwigs to welcome spring. Spring cleaning applies here too, as Easter is the first extended holiday in Sweden and many families travel to holiday cottages. Locked up all winter, it is time to sweep the dust, open the windows, and get the kitchen to work before relatives arrive for an Easter lunch. Held in the crisp spring air, a traditional Easter lunch consists of different varieties of pickled herring, cured salmon and a dish dubbed “Jansson’s Temptation”. Spiced schnapps is also a feature of many Easter tables, making Spring in Sweden nature’s way of saying “Let’s party!” Recipe: Jansson’s Temptation Who Jansson is, we may never know, but we know why he fell into temptation.
