Due to its prime location along the St. Lawrence River opposite
Montreal, Quebec’s economic heartbeat, Roussillon is now
poised for a new phase of growth; Montreal is where half of
Quebec’s $296B Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is created, where
the majority of venture capital is invested and where half of
the province’s four million workers are employed.

With a balance of space available, Roussillon is the perfect environment for your company to grow and
prosper among eleven municipalities, each of which connects with road, rail, air and sea links to major
Canadian destinations like Ontario, and to the Midwestern United States.
A region at the crossroads of all road, rail, air and sea links to major
North American destinations.
Direct access to resources that can help build your company’s success and export its achievements
is within a 100-km radius. The proximity and concentration of these resources help your company build
dynamic relationships with all its suppliers, manufacturers and sub-contractors. The region is also home
to research and training centres that enrich your expertise and allow you to expand your horizons.
Roussillon’s 150,000 inhabitants thrive with a profound respect for the previous generations
who cultivated one of the most fertile lands in Quebec. Today, this land offers many advantages
to businesspeople, like yourself, who can clearly see the bigger picture.
Direct access to 135,000,000 North American consumers within
a 1,200-km radius.

THE
CROSSROADS
OF SUCCESS
Roussillon’s municipalities are all advantageously
located within an approximate 30-km radius of Montreal’s
international airport, Canadian National and Canadian
Pacific intermodal terminals, and the Port of Montreal,
one of the most dynamic and competitive ports on the east
coast of North America.
The Roussillon region is truly at the crossroads of Greater Montreal’s major transportation corridors.
It is traversed by Highway 15—the leading trade corridor between Quebec and the United States—
that extends to the St-Bernard-de-Lacolle border crossing, one of the three largest border crossings
in Canada.
Highways 10 and 30 surround the region and link the trucking network with central railways. The current
extension of Highway 30, a southern Montreal beltway, creates substantial economic potential; the future
redevelopment of Route 132 into a large urban boulevard is expected to do the same.

industrial parks
The dock of Côte-Sainte-Catherine dock is located directly on the St. Lawrence Seaway and provides access
to an almost 4,000-km marine highway that connects the Atlantic Ocean to the Great Lakes Region,
North America’s business, industrial and agricultural hub. The port is the departure point for cargo
shipped to mining communities and companies in the Canadian North.
Nearly 1,200 companies, including many exporters, have firmly taken root in the 370-km2 region,
which boasts six industrial parks. The area is linked to an infrastructure of cutting-edge services:
large quantities of quality drinking water, a gas line, landfill and high-speed fibre optic Internet
network. Additionally, seven hydroelectric plants, including the Beauharnois Generating Station,
one of the largest in the world, supply clean energy to the region.
Proximity to these many resources and the affordability of land means that operating costs are
among the lowest in North America, making Roussillon a thriving industrial, commercial, agricultural
and residential focal point.

Roussillon directly benefits from business generated
by various industries in the Greater Montreal area. It also
contributes to Quebec’s economic strength through the many
niche sectors in which it excels.
Due to the many industrial spaces still available for development, redevelopment and requalification, the
region represents an excellent set-up opportunity for a wide range of industries and businesses. It also
offers outstanding conditions for the transportation and logistics industry and the plant, animal and
processed food industry—from production to processing and distribution. In fact, the region is currently
in the planning phase of a significant intermodal logistics platform of national interest.
Roussillon is a fertile land and a place where many suppliers choose to set up shop and grow their
business. Products used in the manufacture of Montreal subway cars pass through here; at the crossroads
of Plattsburgh (USA), Montreal and La Pocatière (in eastern Quebec).
Our trade with New York State amounts to nearly CAN$8B per year, making it Quebec’s leading
international export market. Exports to Ontario amount to more than CAN$30B, while imports border
the CAN$40B mark.
Government development of the Quebec-New York and Quebec-Ontario trade corridors will greatly
benefit the region. It will increase the transport of goods, especially along Highway 30 (now on track
to completion), and create a new east-west trade dynamic.
Roussillon offers winning conditions for your project’s success!

Roussillon is a dynamic region with an active population rate of 70 per cent—the highest in Quebec!
And you also get access to Greater Montreal’s vast workforce.
Roussillon’s population is one of the most educated in Canada and enjoys a first-rate network of English

Many vocational training centres and places of higher learning are easily accessible from Roussillon
and are renowned throughout Canada: Les hautes études Commerciales (HEC) de Montréal, École
Polytechnique de Montréal, École de technologie supérieure, not to mention well-known R&D and
technology transfer centres in the logistics and biofood industries, among others.
Roussillon’s population is one of the most educated in the country, thanks to
a network of public and private schools—ranging from primary to secondary
education—and proximity to Montreal’s colleges and universities.
Overall, Roussillon’s workforce performance, as well as that of surrounding areas, is the highest in
Quebec. Its workforce gender breakdown is balanced, specifically, 52.5 per cent men and 47.5 per cent
women. Moreover, unemployment among women is the lowest in the province at 4.8 per cent.

THE LIFESTYLE

B
A PLACE
TO prosper
A boom in Roussillon’s construction sector has resulted
in an availability of homes suited to a wide range of income
brackets for families who choose to settle in the region.
Neighbourhood life revolves around nearby schools, parks, sports facilities and shops. This minimizes
travel time and creates a living environment that promotes a healthy work-family balance. It is also
a very safe and close-knit community.
The health care network provides access to a comprehensive range of services.
The regional health centre is home to one of the best hospitals in Quebec and offers
surgery and obstetric services. Of course, all other health care professionals
can be found here.
Community life abounds with touristic and cultural offerings: the national historic site for
Vieux-La Prairie, the Canadian Railway Museum at Delson/St-Constant, the Sainte-Catherine
récréoparc and the Marguerite d’Youville Wildlife Refuge in Châteauguay.
There are also many major attractions in nearby Montreal, such as Festival International de Jazz
de Montréal, the Just for Laughs Festival, Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, La Ronde amusement
park, la Grande Bibliothèque, les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal, modern dance troops,
Place des Arts, numerous theatres, The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and Musée d’art Contemporain.
In addition, the city is home to professional sports including the celebrated Montreal Canadiens hockey
team, Montreal Alouettes football team and Montreal Impact soccer team.
Roussillon is also one of Quebec’s best outdoor excursion destinations. The region has bike paths for
the whole family to enjoy, as well as walking paths and spectacular waterways like the Châteauguay
River and Lake St. Louis.
Citizen awareness for protecting the environment is clear: Châteauguay Municipal Library, winner
of two prestigious architectural awards, was designed to generate energy savings. This green building
is renowned for its rooftop garden and geothermal heating system, among others. Elsewhere, waste
recycling levels are very high and have prompted many environmental companies to relocate to Roussillon,
a “green” region that will soon welcome wind power projects.
Roussillon—the perfect place to live and prosper!

A territory
of continuity
Thanks to the communications opportunities it offers,
Roussillon has traditionally been a highly strategic
territory. In fact, it owes its name to the Royal Roussillon
Regiment who established winter barracks in La Prairie
during the eighteenth century.

At the junction of main waterways, it welcomed the earliest railroads, followed by an extensive network
of roads that exists to this day and continues to develop.
It is within this context of continuity that Roussillon is enjoying its renewed growth; where the exchange
of goods, services and communications flourishes. It’s a planned development to enhance the agricultural
potential of some of the richest land in Quebec, from production to processing, while maintaining a balance
between urban and rural life.
