National Migration January 2015
We are ONE FAMILY under God
The Catholic Church in the United States celebrates National Migration week each January, uniting
the story of the flight of Mary, Joseph & the infant Jesus into Egypt with our story as people who have
migrated to the United States, or are descendants of migrants. Most Holy Trinity will celebrate & extend this celebration throughout the month of January. This is especially important to us in Tucson
where we have daily reminders of the pain of family separation due to immigration policy.
You are invited to bring in an image of the Madonna & child that celebrates the culture(s) in your
background. A table will be set-up in the entrance to the church this week-end where you may place the
image. (Please do not place anything of value on the table. You may make a color copy in the parish
office during business hours.)
Thanks to all our devoted
Soup Patrollers!
During the month of December, we
served 3,977 men women and children
at our 10 sites. The average number of
people served each night went up from
102 to 127 people. In the last two
weeks, the average served each night
was 153.
During the coldest part of the year, we
take soup to Central City Assembly of
God. They house 50-60 men each night.
Thanks also to many of our Religious
Ed students who teamed sack lunches
with new socks and gloves for gifts to
our clients over the holidays.
We also had a call from one of our former clients who is now living off the
streets. She wanted to bring some presents to women at our stops.
Thanks to our working relationship
with Caridad, we have found ways to
control our costs for hot chocolate and
other ingredients.

baptism solemnly, to be custodian & dispenser of
the Eucharist, to assist at & bless marriages, homes, cars, pets & people in the
name of the church.
Prayer Flags for “Rosa”

and faith during her long “Sanctuary
Journey”.
Please stop by the table after mass and
show our parish community’s support
for her. They will be delivered to her
where they will be displayed in the patio
area.

Each year our Religious Education children do an outreach project in service for other children in
need. This year they have chosen to raise $5,000 for two orphanages in Sri Lanka. These homes are run by
our Salvatorian Sisters of the Divine Savior.
These children are in need of reliable transportation, playground equipment, school supplies,
clothes and medical supplies.
The hope for this project, in addition to improving the lives of our brothers and sisters in Christ
will also show our Religious Education children how to live out the gospel message of Jesus Christ.
Our children have set a goal of $5,000 to raise in total for these orphanages. The children have
already raised $1,000 by selling homemade hot chocolate jars before the Christmas holiday.
In order to help our RE Children reach their goal of $5,000 we will be providing a few opportunities for them to do so.
On Friday, February 6th at 7pm Religious Education is hosting our very first Valentine’s Party with dancing, finger food, games and lots of fun for all ages! You’ll even
have an opportunity to win a four course meal for 4 or 6 people prepared by Maredith,
our Director of Religious Education, Father Tom, our Pastor, Deacon Ken, our Spiritual Advisor and a few of our Religious Education Children.
We will also have silent auction baskets with themes like, U of A, Date Night, Family Game Night,
I Love My Pet, Cupcakes, Salsa & some other exciting themes.
All monies raised from this fun event will go directly to the RE Children’s Outreach Project to
benefit two orphanages in Sri Lanka.

Monday January 19th is
a celebration for Martin
Luther King Day, Jr., it is
an American Federal
Holiday marking the
birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr.
King was the chief spokesman for nonviolent activism in
the civil rights movement, which successfully protested
racial discrimination in federal and state law. The campaign for a federal holiday in King's honor began soon
after his assassination in 1968. President Ronald Reagan
signed the holiday into law in 1983, and it was first observed three years later. At first, some states resisted observing the holiday as such, giving it alternative names or
combining it with other holidays. It was officially observed in all 50 states for the first time in 2000.
