Moving at 0.44 seconds How vehicle inspection provider Opus Bilprovning used eZ to better manage content, improve site performance and increase online bookings About Opus Bilprovning Opus Bilprovning is one of the leading vehicle inspection providers in Sweden. They perform 1.8 million vehicle inspections annually. In addition to the compulsory inspections mandated in Sweden, the company offers voluntary environmental and safety services for light and heavy vehicles. Opus Bilprovning’s website bilprovning.se is used primarily to deliver vehicle owners timely, localized content about each of their 78 inspection stations and allow them to submit bookings for inspection appointments online. Why Opus Bilprovning Chose eZ Opus Bilprovning previously used WordPress for all its publishing and content management needs. But as the company grew and their needs became more complex, Zwebb, the web agency that developed the site for more than two years, realized that Opus Bilprovning needed a more flexible and scalable CMS. With input from Zwebb, Opus Bilprovning selected eZ Publish Platform to power a new version of bilprovning. se, which Zwebb set out to redesign. Using eZ Publish Platform, Zwebb built an interactive, responsive site, making it easy for users to access Opus Bilprovning’s content on desktops, tablets and mobile devices. “We chose eZ for several reasons including its adaptability for dynamic content and its ability to manage and deliver localized content,” said Jessica Adolfsson, Head of Communication at Opus Bilprovning. “We are very pleased with the new website and the partnership with Zwebb. Customers are finally able to easily navigate through the various pages and get fast access to the booking site. And for me, editing and working with eZ Publish Platform daily is easy.” Delivering timely, localized information to end users fast Before adopting eZ Publish Platform, Opus Bilprovning’s editors couldn’t easily manage their own inspection stations on the site. But with eZ, each “station chief” has the freedom to create, edit and publish their own content efficiently, whether it be updates to the hours of operation, information on new services offered, and special promotions. eZ’s granular rights and permissions also ensure each editor can update their section of the site freely without impacting another section. “The redesign has made creating the pages for Opus editors that much easier,” said Web Strategist and CEO of Zwebb, Zoran Marinkovic. “With this easyto-navigate structure, finding the page you need to edit goes rather quickly. Station chiefs can also easily update current ‘Drive-in’ status for their own station at any time, which is presented on a customized Google map.” We chose eZ for several reasons including its adaptability for dynamic content and its ability to manage and deliver localized content. - Jessica Adolfsson, Head of Communication at Opus Bilprovning bilprovning.se’s easy-to-navigate user interface makes it easy for vehicle owners to find stations and book appointments. An interactive, location-based app Zwebb used eZ Publish Platform to develop Stationer, a location-based app with an interactive map, which helps customers find the nearest car inspection station. Opus Bilprovning has more than 12,000 customers daily who can now easily gather information about the nearest station, such as whether a station is open, if drive-in appointments are available and what additional services they offer. Opus Bilprovning stores all of its station data in eZ’s content repository and feeds it via eZ’s API to the Stationer app. Simplifying the booking process Along with accessing content faster, end users can now book their appointments directly from the bilprovning.se home page. By minimizing the steps required to make a booking, Zwebb simplified the user experience and helped Opus Bilprovning generate more appointments. On Opus Bilprovning’s new site, vehicle owners can book appointments directly from the home page. Accelerating page load times “Before we started the redesign, we felt Opus Bilprovning needed a more solid and better content management platform,” Marinkovic said. “eZ’s structured content repository and ability to quickly connect to external services is helping us a lot, and its software architecture is well suited for handling high volumes of traffic at fast speeds.” Thanks to eZ’s architecture, the Opus Bilprovning site’s average page load time improved to just 0.44 seconds. The quality of the Symfony full-stack framework, which is an important part of the web delivery, and its excellent caching capabilities greatly contributed to accelerating the page load speed, Zwebb CEO Marinkovic explained. Next steps eZ’s architecture takes advantage of several components that allow high load and high performance, including the HTTP accelerator Varnish; the HTTP server Apache; and the relational database management system MySQL. Together, eZ and Symfony provide a toolbox which helps Opus Bilprovning optimize caching and decrease response time. Digital projects are never finished, and eZ software’s flexibility and extensibility allows for continuous optimization. In the coming months, Opus Bilprovning and Zwebb plan to integrate NetSuite Business Software for centralized management of each station’s opening hours on bilprovning.se as well as chat functionality for online customer care.
