It is our aim to provide for the development of the whole child: social; emotional;
spiritual; cognitive and physical, so that he or she is ready for formal learning at
the Preparatory School. It is of the utmost importance that we see this journey
of school readiness as a combined one - school and parents a like, with your child
being the most important in this relationship. Together we can develop your
child to reach his/her full potential.
AGE
The minimum entry age is 3 turning 4 years in Grade 000. Please take note that
your child must be toilet trained i.e. able to go independently.
SCHOOL HOURS
Children may arrive at 07:20am with school starting at 08:00am. Children may be
collected at 12:30pm, if they are not staying for extra murals or aftercare. Please
adhere to these times, as late arrivals make the child miss part of the programme
and disrupts the class. Educators are on duty till 13:30. On Fridays we close at
13:00.
UNIFORM
The Pre-Preparatory uniform is to be worn to school and can be bought at the
Uniform Shop based at the school. This uniform includes a hat, but children
may wear their own shoes.
Uniform shop times:
Mon:
07:00 - 11:00
Wed:
12:00 - 16:00
Fri:
07:00 - 09:00

TOYS
Please don’t allow your child to bring toys to school, as these invariably cause
conflict and/or heartache. They may only bring if requested for show and tell.
ABSENTEEISM
Please phone the school when your child is absent. We also need to be informed of
any infections, diseases the children may have contracted. A sick child may not be
brought to school. Staff may not administer medicine.
LUNCH TIME
Parents are asked to provide a mid-morning snack and juice. Sweets and “junk food”
are not allowed. Please assist us in our endeavour to encourage healthy eating habits.
TUCK SHOP
There is a Tuck Shop at the Preparatory School. If your child needs to buy his lunch,
the educators will order it in the morning and it will be delivered to the PrePreparatory School.
BIRTHDAYS
Children are allowed to wear civvies on their birthday and are encouraged to donate a
story book for the reading corner.
REFERRALS
Children who are experiencing problems may be referred to experts in their field for
an assessment. Parents will be consulted and will be asked to give permission for the
assessment. (e.g. Speech Therapists; Occupational Therapists or Educational Psychologists). Our aim is to try and eliminate problems before formal learning begins.
APPOINTMENTS WITH EDUCATORS
If you would like to discuss something with your child's educator, please make an appointment with the educator or via our secretary. These meetings cannot take place
during teaching time or if the educator is on playground duty.
EXRA-MURALS GR 00 AND GR 0
DIARIES
Extra-murals are held twice a week from 13:00 - 13:30 on a Tuesday and Thursday
hosted by the educators. Two different activities are done on each day and these
activities change during the term. You will be required to sign your child up for
one of these activities. Gr. 000’s do not take part in our extra-mural programme,
as they are very tired after their morning at school. Extra-mural activities are not
compulsory.
Your child will receive a diary or a book, which is our method of communicating.
Important letters will be sent out in the diary. Please write in the diary if you need
to bring something to the educator’s attention. Please check these diaries daily.
Types of activities done are:
When fetching your child in the afternoon please sign your child out. If your child is
being picked up by someone else or going home with a friend, please inform the
educator or put a note in your child’s diary. This is for security purposes - please
assist us in this matter.
