Band Competition Building its Brand!
Well, it was not a huge crowd on Saturday, March 5, but what an
excellent show at the second annual Vanier College Band
Competition! Seven amazingly talented acts competing for cash
prizes, plus a visit from last year’s winners The Lunch Hour
Husbands. Congratulations go out to the overall winners Don't Ask
Why fronted by singer Jess Cloutier with Ben Luks, Brendan
Khacho, Sasha Da Costa, and Dillon Martino. A very close secondplace finish by 3less with Matt McCormack, Théo Abellard, and
Hibiki Kojima-Graham; and rounding out the top 3 was Somewhere
in Neverland with Jeff McGovern, Will Barbieri, Jonathan Séguin,
and Santiago Garcia-Cuevas. Very proud of all our performers from
the music department, and received tons of compliments from
guests, organizers and host Paul Karwatsky. Well done!

Off to on a study trip to Belize
After an intense
year of preparation,
23 students and 3
teachers left last
Friday for a 9-day study trip to Belize in the context of the
International Project universal complementary course The Tropics:
Opportunities and Challenges – An Exploration of HumanEnvironment Relationships in Belize.
Our fabulous group of students are eager to share their
experiences with the Vanier community both while in Belize and
upon return. As far as the Internet facilities will allow us to, we
intend to keep you informed all along our 9-day adventure via our
Facebook page (see below). Once back from the trip, students will
share the knowledge they acquired in the course and in the field
with presentations, kiosks, photo exhibits, videos throughout April
and specifically during Earth Week (April 18-22). Stay tuned!
Visit the Belize website: http://www.belizevanier.com/
The Vanier Music and Theatre Society has been working extremely
hard to make our production of Stephen Sondheim's Into the
Woods a huge success! All this work deserves a great audience, so
buy your tickets now! They are available at the Vanier reception
desk (F-224, ext. 7794). Students $15, Regular $20.

The Learning Centre’s Creative Writing Contest
The Learning Centre is having its annual
creative writing contest! It would be great if
you could encourage any writers in your
classes to participate.
There are two categories, Poetry and
Fiction. There is first place ($100), second
place ($75) and third place ($50) in each
category. Many of the entries are also
published in a book of student writing afterwards. This is a great
opportunity for students to win some money and see their work
published.
Student Awards Ceremony
The Learning Centre and Math & Science Centre will be holding a
Student Awards Ceremony on Monday, April 25th at 6:00 p.m. to
honor all peer tutors and volunteers in the college.
During this ceremony each tutor/volunteer will receive a
Certificate of Merit from their program supervisor.
If you have any students who have been tutoring or volunteering
for your department and feel they should be included in the
ceremony, please contact Pam Espinosa in the Learning Centre at:
espinosp@vaniercollege.qc.ca.
Thank you.
The deadline is Friday, April 1st. For more information, students

Capsule linguistique
You are strongly encouraged to submit the nomination form to the
2015-2016 Teaching Excellence Award Committee, c/o Office of
the Academic Dean, academicdean@vaniercollege.qc.ca, by
Tuesday, March 29, 2016.
In addition to the nomination form, all supporting documentation
has to be submitted to the Committee by Monday, April 18, 2016.
All nominations and selection deliberations are kept strictly
confidential.
