F estival Hellenika is a dynamic event which has a nineteen year history in Adelaide dedicated to the development, promotion and celebration of Hellenic links in the Arts, and their exciting Australian manifestations. Formerly known as the Greek Cultural Month, it was established in 1991 with the assistance of the general Secretariat for Greek Abroad. The Festival program is facilitated and coordinated by the SA Council for the Greek Cultural Month Inc. (SACGCM) which is comprised of members of local community organizations and administered by an elected executive council of their representatives. Membership and involvement is open to any organization or individual interested in exploring and celebrating Hellenic concepts or themes though the Arts. Furthermore through Festival Hellenika we aim to encourage a new appreciation of the spirit of Hellenism as we all provide opportunities for local artists interested in Hellenic connections to express themselves in a welcoming, open platform of arts and cultural activities. We hope that you too will be inspired to participate and celebrate Festival Hellenika with us! 1 Φεστιβάλ «Hellenika» 2010 Members of the SA Council for the Greek Cultural Month Inc Μέλη του Νοτιοαυστραλιανού Συμβουλίου Ελληνικού Πολιτιστικού Μήνα Constantinople Hellenic Society SA Cypriot Community of SA Friends of Ecclesiastical & Byzantine Music Assoc. Φέτος για πρώτη φορά στα χρονικά του Ελληνικού Πολιτιστικού Μήνα παρουσιάζουμε μια έκθεση στο Migration Museum με θέμα την Ελληνική Γλώσσα (The Migration of Ideas: It’s All Greek to Me). Με εκτίμηση, Σταματική Κρήτα Πρόεδρος ΝΑΣΕΠΜ Dear friends, Summer 2010… 19 years of Greek Cultural Month… This year, Festival Hellenika or Greek Cultural Month celebrates 19 years of action in South Australia. Every year with your support we coordinate and present events aimed at the development and promotion of Greek Culture in South Australia through new artists and new collaborations. We act to maintain our traditions and simultaneously move forward with new themes. This year we present the exclusive premiere of the documentary titled “I like hearts like mine” dedicated to the father of Remetika, Markos Vamvakaris and we continue to collaborate on new projects aimed at young people (Young Musicians Concert & Festival Hellenika Storytelling). This year Music Hellenika® has a special focus on Women in Greek Song, (2 concerts at the Space Theatre, Adelaide Festival Centre) and for the first time, we present an exhibition on the Greek language at the Migration Museum (The Migration of Ideas: It’s All Greek to Me). Naturally, none of this would be possible without the support of all our member –organizations, and the valuable financial support of all our sponsors. Personally I would like to thank all who voluntarily offer their time, energy and ideas, all the sponsors for their ongoing support as well as all of you who participate through your presence every year. We hope to see you once again at all of the Festival Hellenika events!
