LITTLE RIVER
Sustainability at the Park
Cambridge Discovery Park has been and will continue to be designed and constructed to minimize its negative impact on the natural
environment. Sound planning, design, engineering and construction techniques are being used to create an urban oasis while
protecting natural resources.
When Bulfinch purchased the Arthur D. Little site in 2000, it quickly returned nearly 10 acres back to open space and natural
vegetation restoring areas of the 1950s post-war office park into bountiful green space as it was in the early 1900s. Former parking
lots and impervious areas were restored into a natural buffer between the Little River and portion of the property to be developed
(closest to Route 2), including adding ponds and other natural features that strengthen the sustainability of the Park.
GREEN INITIATIVES AT CDP INCLUDE:
• Wetland preservation
• Roof greening
• Tight building envelope to conserve energy
• Sustainable purchasing
• Water-efficient landscaping and ponds for rainwater runoff
• Electric charging stations
• Highly efficient heating and cooling systems
• Zipcar car-sharing station
• Waste management and recycling of building materials
• Bicycle sharing program and storage
• Water and energy conservation through efficient
plumbing and lighting
• Preferential parking for carpooling and hybrid/electric
cars HVAC
