Field/ Area: Kinect
Sponsor: Microsoft
Project Contacts:
Project Idea and Novelty:
A program for general gesture recognition is presented and
tested with isolated signs of sign language. Other than
common systems for sign language recognition, this
framework makes use of Kinect, a depth sensor developed by
Microsoft and PrimeSense, which features easy extraction of
important body parts.
Recognition is done using hidden Markov models with a
discrete observation probability. The program also offers an
easy way of initializing and training new gestures or signs by
performing them several times in front of the camera. Results
show a recognition rate of > 85% for fourteen signs when they
are trained by more than one person.

9.1 TRIO - Triple Patterning Decomposer
Project Contacts:
Field/ Area: EDA/CAD
Sponsor: Mentor graphics
Project Idea:
Triple patterning was developed for photolithography to
enhance the feature density. In the semiconductor industry,
double patterning is the primary lithography technique
introduced for the 32 nm node. As dimensions continue to
shrink in the 14nm and below a need for a third mask is
becoming essential, so triple patterning is a new trend that is
needed in these submicron technologies to enable printing
features in the 14nm and below on a 45nm node lithography
process.
Novelty:
Considering run time complexity, TRIO is implemented, from
scratch, with three various acceleration techniques so as to
fasten polygons splitting. TRIO also adopted a novel splitting
technique based on modifications of the SAT (Saturated
Coloring) algorithm, and equal density distribution algorithm.
