Conference Committee Action Needed
The Senate FY2010 drastically cut many line items pertaining to early care and education. We
need to let members of the Conference Committee know that professional development, mental
health services for children, and subsidies are important to keep Massachusetts economy
growing and the quality of care improving.
The Senate FY2010 funding amounts for the family support line (MFN * This is the
Massachusetts Family Network Grant that funds the Families United Network (FUN) Program),
PCHP, JFSP, Reach Out and Read, and Early Childhood Resource Centers) is $3M. This
represents a 65% reduction to this line item from FY2009 Post 9C funding.
With 42 programs across the commonwealth, serving about 23,000 families the Mass Family
Networks are universal access programs designed to reduce family isolation, promote healthy
parenting, and link existing services to provide a more comprehensive approach to strengthening
all families with infants and toddlers.
The Parent Child Home Programs as well as the Reach out and read work to prepare families
and children for the school readiness with a literacy based home visiting model.
We need your support, the conference committee is meeting really soon, please write a letter, e
mail or call ASAP to the following legislators (confirmed to be the conference committee),
Senator Steven Panagiotakos (D) 617-722-1630
Senator Michael Knapik (R) 617-722-1415
Senator Stephen Brewer (D) 617-722-1540
Representative Charles Murphy (D) 617-722-2990
Representative Viriato deMacedo (R) 617-722-2100
Representative Barbara L'Italien (D) 617-722-2380
Thank you!

A way to help our program is to visit our sponsors and tell them thank you for their
support of the FUN Program. When visiting a sponsoring business please cut out
and hand them the small thank you note below. Showing your appreciation for their
support, even during these tough economic times, doesn’t cost a thing and means so
much.
Thank you!
Thank you for supporting the Families United Network (FUN)
Program of Cape Cod Child Development.
Your generosity means so much to my family. Because of your
generous support of this program, our family and many others
have been able to participate in the family support and parent
education programs they offer.
Thank you for helping to build strong families and a stronger
community!
“Because all families deserve support.”
