Welcome to Skidmore and the beginning of what we hope will be a rewarding four years. The New
Student Orientation schedule outlines the next week of activities, some of which are academic and
intellectual, others purely fun. Please review the schedule thoroughly.
As you might gather, all of the events have been carefully planned and organized to help you make a
successful transition to Skidmore College, which is why your presence at all events is expected, not
optional. We’re confident that you will participate with the enthusiasm and commitment that is already
characteristic of the Class of 2020.
Many members of the Skidmore community – faculty, staff and students – have come together during
this orientation period to give you the best possible introduction to the academic, residential and cocurricular experience at Skidmore. We are a strong community and proud of our interrelationships and
shared commitments. We hope that as you participate with us in these orientation discussions and
activities, you too will begin to grasp the significance of ‘community’ at Skidmore, and will be eager to
make your own contributions over the next four years.
The First-Year Experience Office is open to you throughout the year, so please stop by to introduce
yourself, to discuss any concerns you may have, or to share your experiences and ideas about

Meet Scribner Seminar at Case Center Walkway
All first-year students meet with their Scribner
Seminar peer mentor & classmates at Case
Center Walkway. Look for signs with Seminar
titles posted on the pillars of the walkway.
At 3:00 pm all students should proceed to the
Wachenheim Field bleachers for the Class of
2020 picture. Students will then line up in the
Sports Center parking lot for the formal
procession into the Sports Center for New
Student Convocation.

Ahead.”
Arthur Zankel Music Center (Simulcast in Filene Recital Hall)
This panel of campus experts (students, faculty
and staff members) will introduce you to key
themes that emerge in the first year (sometimes
in the first few hours) for all students. We want to
make sure that you have the information and
resources you will need to help your student
learn, live and thrive here at Skidmore. There will
be time for Q&A and discussion following the
presentation. Individual staff members from
offices will also be available after the panel to
answer any remaining questions.

Williamson Sports Center for New Student

Requirement Information
Students who have not fulfilled the QR1 requirement
through SAT or ACT test scores may fulfill QR1 by
passing the QR Exam. Students have 4 opportunities to
take and pass the QR exam during their first two
semesters at Skidmore. Otherwise, students must fulfill
QR1 by successfully completing MA 100 by the end of
their sophomore year. The QR exam will be offered
several times throughout orientation week and regularly
throughout the academic year.
Student enrolled in a QR2 course for the fall 2016
semester must fulfill QR1 by Friday 9/9/16.
Note: QR1 is fulfilled by the following test scores: 630 or
higher on the MSAT I, a score of 570 or higher on the
Mathematics SATII, or a score of at least 28 on the math
component of the ACT.

Other: The New Normal addresses the enigma of
cultural, racial, and ethnic identity. Using brilliant
imagery, Arboleda tells his compelling personal
story about race, denial, culture, immigration, and
transformation. This fast-paced show will make
you laugh and cry in the same moment, while
triggering empathy with the drama of struggling
with one’s identity in a divided world.

Safety Orientation for Students
All Skidmore College students are required by state
mandate to attend Safety/Fire Safety meetings at the start
of the fall semester. Meetings are mandatory and will take
place in early September. Be on the lookout for more
information from the Office of Residential Life.
