The symposium, hosted on the grounds of the University of Kentucky Hospital, brought together academicians and clinicians both from the African Diaspora and non-Diaspora, to explore global partnerships focused on narrowing the knowledge gap and improving the global imbalance of healthcare and manpower development. Participants also discussed ideas for twinning and tele-medicine initiatives, international exchange programs involving students, faculty and program administrators, as well as case-based exchanges and e-mentoring. To stimulate the dialogue on these important issues, the University of Kentucky joined with People to People to organize © Derrick Meads, UKy On Tuesday, November 27th, leaders from more than a dozen academic and international organizations held a one day symposium at the University of Kentucky to discuss the critical issues of healthcare development, the widening gaps in human resources, scientific, and medical knowledge prevailing in Africa. Opening remarks were given by University of Kentucky President Dr. Eli Capilouto and on screen L to R, National Institute of Health Senior Investigator Gene Major, Ph.D., and Tedros Adhanom, Ph.D., Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. and conduct this first symposium on medical education and global healthcare. At the end of the full day symposium, participants affirmed their commitment to nurture and develop partnerships based on a triangular relationship. The triangular relationship involves P2P as an institution in charge of mobilizing and coordinating Diaspora resources, the US universities which are pools of medical and scientific knowledge and African Medical Institutions as beneficiaries of capacity building support. AMBULATORY SURGERY Dr. Cox and staff excellent. Thanks for the overall professionalism. Dr. Cox pre op staff anesthesiologist were an very professional team. Transportation person Scott Miller was very helpful to family. EMERGENCY DEPT. Dr. Kimberly Williams was my doctor that night she is a very good doctor. Kimberly H. Sergion was good about telling my husband stuff. MEDICAL PRACTICE Kim is wonderful. Always ready to help. My family and I have been seeing Leslie Stamper for years. She is wonderful. Again, let me compliment my awesome midwife, Franny Meritt, for being amazing. The entire maternity nursing staff, Dr. Cherian, Dr. Harrison, Dr. Conley are just amazing. Thank you! Autumn was terrific! I just love Dr. Birdwhistell and I think he is a excellent doctor. Dr. Colbert and all the 4th floor staff were outstanding. HOME HEALTH Ethel Burchett, RN is a very good nurse. Always friendly and helpful. Leah-Ann Owens, RN was a great nurse, she really knows how to truly give great advice. Very patient and takes the time to explain things. Kathy Howard , RN is a very caring and competent nurse. INPATIENT Carolyn Gilliam, HHA was excellent. Dr. Sanders was very thorough and got me on medications promptly to take care 2 PT’s were great, Tim Jones, PTA & Johnny Napier, PT of my medical needs. I have never been treated at any other hospital as well as St. Claire Regional. Kathy Howard, RN is a wonderful person/helpful. Nurses were outstanding in taking care of my needs. I would recommend St. Claire Regional to all my family and friends. I want to thank especially Rhonda Ramey for her outstanding efforts. She is surely an outstanding employee of St. Claire Regional.
