News from the Director August is upon us and it is simply amazing how quickly the time can go by. Hopefully you are taking the chance to enjoy the great facilities here at Hethwood in this gorgeous weather. You choose the pace that suits you from a relaxing stroll on the over five miles of trail around the community, a pick up game at any of our sports courts, a dip in one of our two sparkling pools, or a picnic to appreciate the beautiful views from various areas of the community. Enjoy Hethwood living at its best! This summer has already been full of wonderful activities including late night swims, popsicles by the pool, 3 fantastic rounds of swimming lessons, entertaining kids movie nights, corn hole tournaments and our 4th of July Splash and Bash. Thank you to the wonderful aquatics team that helped put these events together this year. Also please help me in saying thanks to Hethwood Market for the great food and treats that they shared with us again this summer at our 4 th of July event. I would also like to give a special shout out to my aquatics team members who have been recognized as one of our Guards of the Week. Congratulations to Ethan Apisa, Erika Gresh, Jane Chadwick, Zach Treser and Maura McMahon on being named Guard of the Week this summer. I would also like to congratulate Jack Saban and Hannah Mertes on being named Guard of the Month this summer as well. The entire aquatics team does a fantastic job, but these have gone above and beyond so please give them a high five or fist bump the next time you see them and tell them to keep up the good work. Keep an eye out; you may also see Jack and Hannah sporting their very snazzy Guard of the Month t-shirts. As the weather this season has been very unpredictable, please bare with us as we attempt to run our pools in the most professional and fiscally responsible manner possible. If the mornings are gloomy and grey we may delay opening at one or both pools, this does not mean that we will be closed for the day just that we will open later when the weather may be more appealing to our residents. Afternoon thunder storms are always an issue as we are not sure how this will affect our pool operations. Again we will strive to remain open if the forecast projects that the storm will pass; however, if it is projected that the evening will consist of primarily thunder storms the pools may close. As our responsibility is to the entire community and our duty is to operate the facilities within the community in a fiscally responsible manner. We will do our best to keep operations costs down and keep unnecessary expenditures to a minimum. On an afternoon that the weather is less than desirable please feel free to contact the Hethwood office at 552-5252, the Huntsman Pool at 552-2558 or the Briarwood Pool at 951-0237 for pool opening/ closing information. Every year when our school age students return to school and our college students begin working back into their class schedules we also begin preparing for the pool operation hours to change due to our staffs availability. This year we anticipate both the Briarwood and Huntsman pool operating under our current schedule through August 16th. Beginning on August 17th both pools will begin operating from 4-8pm during the weekdays and the Huntsman pool will operate from 11am-6pm on weekends and the Briarwood pool will operate from 12-8pm on weekends. We are always looking for some additional staff members that could help us extend those anticipated operation hours. If you know of someone coming back to the area that has or is looking to obtain a Lifeguard certification please send them my way because I would love to work with them. As the summer is gearing down I also ask that you take a few minutes to visit the Hethwood Foundation website at www.hethwoodfoundation.com and complete our Summer/Aquatics survey. When reviewing these surveys we are looking for ways that we could improve or change our summer operations for the better. Each homeowner within Hethwood has a voice; please take the time to share your thoughts with us. Let us know, we want to grow!! Thank you to those of you that have already paid your Hethwood Homeowner Assessments. As a resident of Hethwood your contribution goes toward the upkeep of the entire community. If you are among the few residents yet to pay those assessments please bring those by the office as soon as possible. You will not have access to the wonderful amenities that Hethwood has to offer until those assessments are paid. As late notices have been sent to those of you who have not paid assessment our next step in the collection process is to obtain a warrant in debt or lien against you and your property. There is still time to enjoy the pools so get those assessments in soon so you can enjoy those amenities and avoid any further late and administration fees. Finally, we will continue to perform our routine community inspections. We will be paying close attention to yard care and will document the need for mowing or necessary trimming needed at any particular property. Please continue to take proper care of your yard because if not tended to on a regular basis it can get out of hand very fast. Thanks for all you do to keep the community looking great. At the request of many of our Stroubles Mill residents and because the beginning of the public school year is approaching, please remember that if you or your children pass through anyone’s property on the way to school that the owner of the property can report them for trespassing to the local authorities. I realize that this may result in a shorter trip to school for many of our residents, but you must respect your neighbor’s property and their wishes not to have residents passing through. To all the students in the neighborhood, we wish you the best of luck this year as you start the school year and thank you to all the residents of the Hethwood Communities for a safe and successful summer. HETHWOOD OFFICE HOURS: The office is located on the 2nd floor of the 100 building in Apt. H- above the Foxridge Welcome Center. The office is open weekdays M-F 8:30am to 5:30pm and typically closed for lunch 1-2pm. We do not want to miss you. Sometimes our job requires us to be out and about, so a phone call ahead may be prudent. Photo ID’s are required for pool patrons 16 years and over when entering the pool. Exception: Any adult with no photo ID at all may get a pool pin. Individuals are usually able to get a photo ID from the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles for a fee. Children (or adults in certain circumstances) not having a picture ID, will be issued a pool pin by Hethwood lifeguards (at either pool) when pools are open. Pins are to be worn at all times upon entering the pool area. Initial pins are free; however, replacement pins (nonrefundable) may be purchased for $2.00. Hethwood Homeowners Assessments must be up- to -date in order to access amenities. Renters from Haymarket Square, Chowning Place, and any of the Hethwood detached homes need to have a current Transfer of Privileges form on file with the Hethwood office. Please check with the owner or management company to be sure they have sent one on your behalf. GUESTS & PASSES All guests must be accompanied and registered by a resident. Residents will be allowed to entertain up to three guests on any one day. Conduct of the guest is the direct responsibility of the resident. Guests are subject to the rules that apply to residents. Guest fees are $4.00 at the pool gate. See $3 discount pass info below. Children under 2 years are free. Yellow Pass Yellow discounted guest passes are $3.00 ea. and must be pre-purchased @ the Hethwood Foundation office (see office hours above). Residents may purchase as many yellow passes as wanted throughout the current season. The yellow pass is valid for one visit per one guest during the current season. Orange Pass Orange discounted guest passes are $3.00 ea. and must be pre-purchased @ the Hethwood Foundation office. Allows for one resident to entertain up to 6 guests pending availability of lifeguards This pre-purchased pass requires a designated day and pool that the resident and their guests will be attending. This allows us to evaluate staffing for a larger than average bather load at a particular pool. If pools close early (for weather or other) then two hours of pool use is considered a completed pass-see lifeguards. If the pool is closed on the designated day (for orange pass) then the resident will be required to return to the Hethwood office for selection of another date. Passes will only be valid for the current season. No refunds will be given if passes are not used during the current season. We can not be responsible for the weather or seasonal lifeguard availability. Passes will not be accepted on July 4 th & certain special events. Important Information Stroubles Mill Neighborhood Association News Lots of neighbors turned out for the annual Stroubles Mill Patriotic Parade on the Fourth of July. Kids and adults shared in the fun by dressing up or decorating their bike in red, white, and blue. Many thanks to Susan Powers and Dawn Viers for organizing the festive parade. Stroubles Mill Garden of the Month The Stroubles Mill Garden Committee chose the Yaun’s of Stradford Lane as Garden of the Month. They have a wide variety of well kept shrubs and trees together with islands of perennials and annuals. Garden flags, bird feeders, and a Sun-dial invite the viewer to enjoy their landscape. Feel free to enjoy their yard and all the beautiful gardens in our neighborhood. Special Pick Ups of Debris Citizens who need collection of debris outside of Spring/Fall Clean Up should call the Town of Blacksburg Finance Dept. @ 961-1851 to request a special pickup. There is a prepaid fee of $65 per load. If you have only a small amount maybe you can split the cost (and pile to be picked up) with your neighbor. Another option for debris, is to utilize the Montgomery County Consolidated Waste Sites. For more info see www.montgomerycountyva.gov, or call 382-5793. Do you have a house for sale? There may be another Hethwood resident interested in your home! Please contact our office as we will be adding a tab on our website titled ―Homes for Sale‖. Send us a photo of your home, the address, (a total of 3 sentences) and a link to your realtor. All submissions must be electronic. Please include your name and phone number for our records. We will not give it out unless you direct us to do that, or if your home is for sale by owner. We’ll help you get the word out! Before You Make Changes To Your Home or Add Structures…. If you are planning to make any changes please note that according to the bylaws; an Architectural Control Committee shall approve or disapprove any additions or alterations to the building exteriors, including fences, painting-color changes, walls, walks and any type of outbuilding/structure. An Application for Architectural Change/Addition must be submitted along with detailed information, samples and measurements as requested on the form, to the Architectural Control Committee, as well as to the Hethwood Foundation for approval. Generally the process moves quickly, but one should allow for a 30-day approval process. Please contact the Hethwood office for this form or print one from the Hethwood web site www.hethwoodfoundation.com. Satellite Dishes The FCC allows for the residents of planned communities to install direct broadcast satellite dishes. Before installing any satellite dish, we request that you complete a Notice of Intent to Install an Antenna. The form as well as information regarding installation size and location can be printed from the Hethwood web site or picked up at the Hethwood office. Once this is filed with the Hethwood Foundation you are free to carry out installation, unless for some reason the size or location does not conform to applicable standards. Important Disclosure Package Information Please note, if you are selling your house/condo/townhouse you (the seller) are required to furnish the buyer with a disclosure package. The disclosure package includes important information regarding the Hethwood by-laws, exterior home and yard inspection, architectural standards, dues requirements, and other important information. Realtors know this and often request one on your behalf. Some realtors may not. It is the seller’s responsibility. If you are selling your home, please remember to request a disclosure package in writing from the Hethwood Foundation. You may go to www.hethwoodfoundation.com and use the interactive form or print off a form. Please note that an exterior home and yard inspection will be completed as required. Any violations noted must be reported in the disclosure information, and a letter will be sent to you as well. Any violations will need to be remedied in an appropriate time frame. Haymarket Square owners must obtain a disclosure package from both the Hethwood Foundation (552-5252) $50 and Raines Property Management 951-0000 (cost $50). Likewise, Chowning Place owners must obtain a disclosure package from both the Hethwood Foundation (552-5252) $50 and Townside Inc. (552-4000) electronic $225 and paper $250. A purchaser may cancel the contract if timely delivery of the association disclosure package is not completed. Clubhouse Rentals We have two great clubhouses available for Hethwood homeowners and residents of Foxridge to rent. The cost for rental is $50 and the deposit is $300. Consider the Briarwood Clubhouse for your special event. It is easy to clean, the furniture can be moved around for dancing, and it is equipped with a range, refrigerator, dishwasher, and microwave for your convenience. The Huntsman Clubhouse is reserved for non-alcoholic events such as meetings, classes, showers etc. It has a full kitchen and is available for daytime use during office hours. The clubhouses are great for hosting larger groups that may not fit in your home comfortably. This is a privilege for our residents and it is hoped that any rentals will be treated that way. Residents are responsible for returning the clubhouses to their original condition with furniture in place, cleaned completed (residents are to provide own cleaning supplies) and trash removed to a dumpster. The clubhouse(s) should be left properly secured, with key turned in immediately after the contracted time and clubhouse ready for the next inspection and rental.
