Our Hethwood community has all that you will need to get back in shape after the holidays and all the wonderful meals that go with it. Take advantage of our 5 miles of trail and get out and make it part of your routine to take an evening stroll or jog. This time could not only help with your physical health, but also with your mental health, by letting the day’s stress fade away with the pounds. We hope that the amenities that Hethwood provides will benefit all of our residents in a positive way. As always, we are focused on an excellent standard of maintenance for existing amenities with improvements that enhance the community, and activities that enrich the lives of Hethwood residents. We will operate the Foundation in both a fiscally and environmentally responsible manner. We are part of the Go Green initiative and we made a commitment to be mindful of the ways we can impact not only the bottom line, but also how we can set an example to be conscientious in our day to day activities. And as always, we will provide tremendous customer service as we work to maintain the integrity of Hethwood by administering protective covenants, architectural standards, and handling general issues within the community. While completing necessary inspections in the neighborhood, it is not our intention to offend any of our residents. These inspections are to benefit the collective homeowners by providing a fresh perspective. Our homes are often our biggest investment, so let’s all work to keep our properties looking great in 2014. We will strive to continue working together to make Hethwood the most desired neighborhood in Blacksburg. We can start by looking at projects around our properties that could benefit from a little TLC and making a plan. Consider a fresh coat of paint or roofing on storage buildings, tree & bush pruning, pressure wash moldy siding and decks. Plan for landscape improvements for the spring after we escape the winters chill. Some things we will be keeping a watchful eye on while performing inspections is the proper storage of your recreation equipment, such as bicycles, boats, kayaks, etc. These should be neatly stored in your garage or storage building and not left cluttering your yard or driveway. One of our projects that we will be working to complete this month is to update our photo archive for all of the homes in Hethwood. You may notice us walking through the neighborhood and taking photo of your home, do not be alarmed, this will simply be used as a reference tool for our office and will not be shared with anyone outside of the Hethwood office. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation while we complete this project. As many of you have established a New Years resolution, the Hethwood staff has many New Year’s resolutions as well-we want 2014 to be one of the best years on the books! 2013 was a great year for us and presented a few new faces on our Hethwood Board. We are also working hard to plan some new and exciting activities. Winter usually brings the opportunity to enjoy a little fun time in the snow. We love to see the various snow creations all around the neighborhoods. Keep an eye on the website to see if we snapped a photo of your snowy concept to be featured online. As a very important winter reminder (see additional information inside), please remember NO ONE is allowed in or on the pond for any reason. Even when the pond may appear to be frozen over, there is no way to check the thickness and consistency of the ice. Please do not risk your safety. Along the same lines, we ask that no one throw rocks into the pond. Not only does this create a weaker ―shoreline‖ by removing the border, but it also costs Hethwood, and ultimately each resident. It becomes a budget expense when we have to dredge the rocks out of the center and reinforce the bank. Thanks for your help in this matter! The next meeting for the Hethwood Foundation Board of Directors will be Tuesday, January 21st at noon. We have some wonderful changes on the slate for this upcoming year. We are very excited about the proposed enhancements to the amenities and common areas; please stay tuned for more details as each project approaches. Keep in mind that resident feedback is important and we need YOUR input, please join us for any Hethwood Foundation Board meeting. Many thanks to those of you that brought 2 canned food items for the Montgomery County Food Bank & many thanks to Santa for spending some wonderful time at Hethwood! Brush Disposal Alternatives Brush collection service occurs in Blacksburg twice a year during spring and fall cleanup. After that there are several alternatives suggested by the T. O. B. and the Hethwood Foundation. Residents can call the Town (961-1851) to arrange a special pick up for $65 a dump truck load. You may also haul your own brush to the Montgomery Regional Solid Waste Authority in Christiansburg for a nominal fee. You may contract privately for brush removal services. Composting (a neat pile in your back yard) is possible for small pieces. Another option for debris, is to utilize the Montgomery County Consolidated Waste Sites. www.montgomerycountyva.gov, or call 382-5793. Realtors know this and often request one on your behalf. Some realtors may not. It is the seller’s responsibility. If you are selling your home, please remember to request a disclosure package in writing from the Hethwood Foundation. You may go to www.hethwoodfoundation.com and use the interactive form or print off a form. Please note that an exterior home and yard inspection will be completed as required. Clubhouse Rentals We have two great clubhouses available for Hethwood homeowners and residents of Foxridge to rent. The cost for rental is $50 and the deposit is $300. Consider the Briarwood Clubhouse for your special event. It is easy to clean, the furniture can be moved around for dancing, and it is equipped with a range, refrigerator, and microwave for your convenience. The Huntsman Clubhouse is reserved for non-alcoholic events such as meetings, classes, showers etc. It has a full kitchen and is available for daytime use during office hours. The clubhouses are great for hosting larger groups that may not fit in your home comfortably. This is a privilege for our residents and it is hoped that any rentals will be treated that way. Residents are responsible for returning the clubhouses to their original condition with furniture in place, cleaned completed (residents are to provide own cleaning supplies) and trash removed to a dumpster. The clubhouse should be left properly secured, with key turned in immediately after the contracted time and clubhouse ready for the next inspection and rental.
