Takin` it to the Beach!
JULY 2010 A R U B A ’ S M O N T H L Y N E W S L E T T E R Takin’ it to the Beach! Aruba’s Happy Hour Bands liven up the island’s great outdoors The Untouchables “Music is the language,” say the lyrics to one of the island’s popular Carnaval songs written by local musician and composer Teddy Phillips. The island’s pulse can be gauged by the rhythms and melodies that drift along the trade winds, and there is no better place to enjoy a taste of such an integral part of Aruba’s culture than outside surrounded by the beauty of the island. The amount of musical talent on the island is astounding, with many of Aruba’s youth picking up an instrument or microphone at a young age, nurtured and encouraged by family, friends, and the community to hone and perfect their skills in both local and traditional music, as well as taking on just about every other genre under the sun. Yesterday’s child is now onstage, making a career out of doing what comes naturally and what he loves to do more than anything. Most, if not all, of Aruba’s resorts, and many bars and restaurants, take advantage of the local abundance of talent here, and often merge their Happy Hour events with live music.
