Analysis of Book 6
By Galadriel Waters
with E. L. Fossa and Professor Astre Mithrandir
Clues to the final mystery in Book 6 of the

and his mentor?
This Analysis of Book 6 follows the same form as
the first two guides, but covers only Harry
Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. The authors and
legions of Harry Potter fans from online

how the series will end
all the clues leading up to Book 6

Inside Marilyn Monroe
A Memoir
By John Gilmore
“Deeply moving and fresh, a stunningly
written and vital account of the life, mind
and soul that was Marilyn Monroe…”–
Charles Higham
Hardboiled writer Gilmore and Marilyn –
both Hollywood kids – were friends for over
ten years, and so close that Gilmore had to
wait decades to share this intimate memoir.
Here are Marilyn’s personal and professional
worlds explored as never before. First-hand
portraits, etched with the razor clarity
familiar to Gilmore fans, track her tragic
detour from happiness and self-fulfillment
through the closed worlds of Hollywood and
Beverly Hills, high and low.
Gilmore’s revelations of fame in the fast lane
paint an indelible picture of the real Marilyn,
an emotionally tortured, unloved, lonely and
desperate goddess, ricocheting in a makebelieve realm fueled by alcohol and pills,
imprisoned by an industry that discounted
her ambitions as she blossomed into the most
important movie star in the world.
■
PLANGENT MEMOIR OF HOLLYWOOD

Brigitte Bardot, Janis Joplin and Jack Nicholson,
and many others. He still lives in Hollywood.

Blaxploitation Cinema
The Essential Reference Guide
By Josiah Howard
“Josiah Howard’s book is frankly the best
guide on the subject that I have ever
seen.”– Jack Hill, director of Blaxploitation
classics Coffy and Foxy Brown
The first appreciative look back at a distinctly
American motion picture phenomenon.
Dazzling, highly stylized, excessively violent
and brimming with sex, Blaxploitation films
enjoyed a brief and memorable moment in
motion picture history. Today these films are
enjoying a renaissance, and not just with
film fans. The genre, with its bevy of
colorful, contemporary characters,
irresistible soundtracks and catchy titles, has
taken its rightful place among the
entertainment industry’s most influential
films.
This is the first truly comprehensive
reference of this important genre, and
details its history, films, trends and farreaching impact, covering more than 240
Blaxploitation films from 1970-1980. From
Aaron Loves Angela to The Zebra Killer they’re all
here in one indispensable volume, including
many of the motion picture posters and ads
promoting the films.

The industry bible for writers of all kinds,
this book doesn’t teach writers how to write;
rather, it teaches aspiring talents how to write
their way into the business and how to market
their writing in a businesslike manner.
Includes profiles of over 75 agents and
managers.
K Callan, the well-known character actress,
began writing her series of show business
reference books in 1986 because she knew
there was a more informed way to choose an
agent than by ‘instinct.’ Twenty books later,
Callan is still clipping articles, surfing the
web, calling agents, talking to union
executives, and interviewing agents, actors,
writers and directors. A former member of
the Board of Directors of SAG, she has
recently appeared on The Closer, Cold Case, CSI
and Nip/Tuck. She lives in LA.

Four Spiritual Gifts
How to Maximize Your Intuition
and Inspirations to Become More
Creative, Successful and Fulfilled

Each of us is born with four spiritual gifts which
are the foundation of our communication and
intuition in daily life. Determining how we
relate to others, these gifts are very much like
our personality traits. These gifts are
■
■
clairvoyance, or inner vision
clairaudience, or inner thoughts or ideas
■
prophecy, or inner knowing

This intriguing and practical book shows

their strong points and main avenues of
communication – and how to use them to
make the best decisions. Readers also learn
how to make the most of the hunches,
visions, ideas and feelings they receive every
day from the inner self. They'll discover the
true source of inspiration and how to
recognize it, trust it, and act on it.
A unique and perceptive look at what really
shapes our personality and the inner skills
that determine our success and happiness,
this wonderful book demonstrates how
anyone can use each of the four gifts to
better relate to and communicate with
themselves, their inner guidance and others
in their personal, family and business lives.

Traditional Thai Medicine
Buddhism, Animism, Ayurveda
By C. Pierce Salguero
The first overview of the tradition, including
the origins and modern practice.
A broad-brush history from the 3rd
millennium BC to the present day,
including contemporary practice of this
fascinating art, this comprehensive study is
the culmination of eight years of field study
and academic research on traditional Thai
Medicine. It traces the rich cultural history
of Thai medicine’s heritage from its origins
in Buddhism, animism and Ayurveda to the
formation of a unique syncretic healing
tradition which is still widely practiced in
both rural and urban Thailand.
THE FIRST HISTORY OF
MEDICINE IN THAILAND
Thai medicine has been influenced by Vedic
India, Khmer mysticism, Chinese medical
theory and the indigenous beliefs in spirits
and ghosts, and this book is a fascinating
time capsule of practices and beliefs from
many historical eras.

Yoga Morality
Ancient Teachings
at a Time of Global Crisis
By Georg Feuerstein
“No one in our culture knows the ins-andouts of Yoga better than Dr. Georg
Feuerstein. He is the foremost authority on
Yoga today.”– Larry Dossey, MD, The
Extraordinary Healing Power of Ordinary Things
“In Georg Feuerstein we have a scholarpractitioner of the first magnitude, an
extremely important and valuable voice for
the perennial philosophy.”
– Ken Wilber; founder of the Integral Institute,
and author of twenty books
Explores Yogic philosophy and practice to
discover what it means to be a mature, moral
person. Counterbalancing current trends
toward overpopulariziation, Feuerstein
emphasizes that Yoga is not, fundamentally,
about the glamour of its physical postures or
about fabulous states of meditation.
Yoga, which lies at the heart of Hinduism,
Buddhism, and Jainism, is primarily a
spiritual tradition concerned with personal
growth. Ideally, practitioners seek the
ultimate goal of complete self-transcendence
leading to perfect inner freedom. Yoga’s
core process, which conducts the
practitioner from a state of inauthentic
existence to authentic being, is essentialy the
gradual, quiet transformation of one’s bodymind and everyday life; so it is impossible to
be a good yogi or yoginî without also being a
morally mature individual.
Georg Feuerstein, who first encountered
Yoga at fourteen, is internationally respected
for his seminal contributions to the EastWest dialogue. He has written over 30
books, including the award-winning
Shambhala Encyclopedia of Yoga and Yoga For
Dummies. His current work includes distancelearning courses on Yoga philosophy.

As One Is
How to Free the Mind
from All Conditioning
By J. (Jiddu) Krishnamurti
“...Krishnamurti influenced me profoundly
and helped me personally break through the
confines of my own self-imposed restrictions
to my freedom.”– Deepak Chopra, MD
“It was like listening to a discourse of the
Buddha – such power, such intrinsic
authority…”– Aldous Huxley
A series of eight lectures, given in Ojai,
California in 1955, from one of the 20th
century’s greatest philosophers and teachers.
Though offered over fifty years ago, the ideas
in these talks are fresh and relevant, offering
an enduring message for today. Krishnamurti
discusses a world in which booming
productivity and scientific advancement
should promise a happy future, but don’t.
He asks his listeners to consider that all our
apparent progress is simply another illusion.
Brilliantly clear, with singular focus, he
offers no glib answers to eternal questions.
To read this book is to venture into the
unexplored assumptions that govern our lives.
Like other classic texts, such as religious scriptures,
the words ring true. Issues addressed include:
■
TRUTH IS A PATHLESS LAND, AND WE
HAVE TO FIND IT THROUGH
UNDERSTANDING THE CONTENTS OF
OUR OWN MINDS –J. Krishnamurti
the nature of violence and the problem of change
■ the conditioning of the mind
■ how to achieve peace

Today people dowse for tangible targets like
water, oil, treasure, lost objects and lost
children – but they also seek intangible
targets like the energies at sacred sites and the
human aura. In truth, we can dowse for
anything – the only limitation is the dowser’s
imagination and level of consciousness.
Readable, non-dogmatic and wide-ranging,
this book is for travellers on the spiritual
path who want to know if dowsing can help
them along their way.

The Archives of Atlantis
By Stan Hall
Imagination, action and danger coalesce in
this true story of the spectacular BritishEcuadorian expedition to the Tayos Caves
of Ecuador.
In 1976, Scottish engineer Stan Hall
organized a landmark expedition to the caves
of the Tayos Indians in Ecuador, involving a
dozen institutions, joint Special Forces, and
astronaut Professor Neil Armstrong as
Honorary President and participant.
Hall was driven by curiosity about Erich von
Däniken’s report in Gold of the Gods of a Metal
Library found in the caves by investigator
Juan Moricz in the 1960s. Since there are no
ancient written scripts in South America,
this idea was considered very unorthodox. In
Hall’s odyssey into the heart of these
enigmas he discovers
the origins of mankind

How To Survive 2012
Tactics and Survival Places
for the Coming Pole Shift
By Patrick Geryl
Prepare and prevail in the End of Times in
2012!
In his previous books, Patrick Geryl
presented a detailed scenario set to take
place in the year 2012: the complete and
utter destruction which has occurred in
Earth’s past and will occur again, as the sun’s
magnetic poles reverse, causing massive solar
flares lashing out into the solar system.
2012 MARKS THE END OF THE
MAYAN CALENDAR – AND DISASTER!
ISBN-10: 1-931882-68-1
Here is a blueprint to survive the coming
disaster, as Geryl explains in detail the
myriad problems survivors will encounter
and the precautions that need to be taken to
overcome them.

ISBN-13: 978-1-931882-68-2
These flares will disrupt the Earth’s magnetic
field and reverse the magnetic poles’
rotational direction. The Earth’s outer crust
will then be thrown into chaos, with planetwide earthquakes, volcanoes and tidal waves
reshaping landmasses and seas in a matter of
hours. Civilization as we know it will end,
and very few humans will survive.

Cleopatra to Christ
Jesus Was the Great
Grandson of Cleopatra
Deluxe Paperback Edition
By Ralph Ellis
Two explosive books in one volume!
Book One: A reconstruction of Jesus’ roots
and family history. The Bible says that the
infant Jesus was visited by the Magi of the
East, educated in Egypt and crowned King
of the Jews. The inference from these sparse
facts is that Jesus was probably of both
Egyptian and Persian royal blood, and was
exiled to Judaea in 4 AD. There was a royal
family at that time which fits all the
requirements to produce this scion.
Book Two: Are the Scots and Irish
Egyptians? Six hundred years ago, Walter
Bower wrote a history of the Irish and Scots,
drawing on records from the first
millennium AD. He maintained that the
Scottish people were descended from Queen
Scota, an Egyptian princess, and the Irish
(Gaelic) from her husband Gaythelos. Is this
a myth, or fact? Ellis demonstrates that it is
true history, and that the Irish and Scots
have, indeed, descended from a daughter of
Pharaoh Akhenaton.
is a historian and an airline pilot
for Easy Jet. With a life-long interest in
Egyptian and Biblical history, his books
explore the Egyptian origin of many
historical figures. He lives in Ryde, England.

In Search of Quetzalcoatl
The Mysterious Heritage of
American Civilization
By Pierre Honoré
An absorbing quest into the mysterious
myths and heritage of South and Central
American civilizations.
Pre-historic Native American legends tell of
a strange new race of men landing on the
shores of the New World, bringing knowledge
of science, engineering, laws, and more.
In the legends, strange bearded fair-skinned,
blue-eyed men wearing black gowns arrived in
huge ships with swan wings. In the Yucatan
jungle, elders call these legendary men
Quetzalcoatl, Viracocha, Kukulkan, and other ancient
names. Who were these men? Where did
they come from, and when did they arrive?

In part an account of the Indian civilizations of
Peru, Bolivia, Colombia, Mexico, Yucatan and
Honduras; and in part an absorbing piece of
historical detection, Honoré’s research suggests
that the legendary gods of the Indians once
existed in reality and reveals a solution to the
mystery of who they were.
Pierre Honoré, while in Brazil as director of a
research institute and advisor to the
government, traveled extensively throughout
South and Central America to examine the
remains of the great native civilizations. Well
acquainted with the cultures of the ancient
Mediterranean, he noticed extraordinary
parallels with Mesoamerican civilizations.
Honoré died in 1987.

True Lies in Chess
The King’s Gambit
By Lluís Comas Fabregó
By Jan Pinski
An irreverent look at the supposed absolute truths
of chess and an original contribution to chess
strategy.
The favorite chess opening of every attacking player,
though today the popularity of the King’s Gambit
has faded.
Established dogmas are rarely questioned, despite
the clear evolution in top tier chess play. Here,
chess grandmaster Lluís Comas Fabregó takes on
the challenging task of separating truth from lies in
traditional advice about chess. He judges the
validity of established rules and strategic concepts,
applies practical examples to ideas and offers good
advice. Readers learn to reduce the complexity of
chess towards the essential features of each
position, and so improve
their play.
True Lies in Chess
Today’s players are loath to sacrifice a pawn for
long-term compensation, but Jan Pinski, an
International Master from Poland, popularizes this
ancient opening with in-depth analysis solving its
many supposed problems. Despite the complexity of
the material, readers will have no difficulties
following the book, as Pinski clearly explains the
issues using his skill as an experienced journalist
and chess author.

Repertoire for Black
Challenging the
Nimzo Indian
By Mihail Marin
By David Vigorito
A world-class chess repertoire for Black against
1.e4, based on the respected Spanish Opening, aka
the Ruy Lopez. In his previous book, Beating the Open
Games, Grandmaster Mihail Marin dealt with
White’s options up to 3.Bb5. Now Marin provides
all the answers for Black after 4.Ba4, a depth of
chess expertise rarely offered to a mass audience.
Competitive chess players need a sound grasp of
how to play this opening – especially how to meet
the most popular lines. The Nimzo-Indian is
Black’s most respected answer to 1.d4 and is
immensely popular at all levels. Its reputation is so
high, in fact, that some players prefer to avoid it.
American International master David Vigorito
shows that this negative approach is unnecessary, as
the book provides White with a complete repertoire
based on 4.Qc2. With Vigorito’s logical approach
and clear conclusions

chess expertise is universally respected. He has

Portable Darkness
An Aleister Crowley Reader
New Revised Edition
By Aleister Crowley
Foreword by Robert Anton Wilson
Edited by Scott Michaelsen
The first collection of the best of Crowley’s
voluminous lifework.
While the details of Crowley’s flamboyant life
have been well documented, his position as the
occult’s major intellectual figure has often
been eclipsed by his notoriety, as he was
infamous for scandalizing society on both
sides of the Atlantic. Devoting his life to the
study of Qabalah, gematria, numerology,
astrology, myth, glyphs, yoga, and linguistics,
Crowley’s intense, methodical exploration of
this immense and arcane range of knowledge
yielded a huge, challenging, abstruse oeuvre.
By collecting Crowley’s best writings and
adding his own cogent analyses, editor Scott
Michaelsen makes Crowleyan philosophy
both accessible and intelligible, spotlighting
the works which best display Crowley’s
scathing insight and intellectual range:

The Power of Israel
in the United States
By James Petras
“...a fearless truth trip – with lucid style, tough
factual blows, commanding research, and
compelling analysis. This is a must-read for
opponents of imperialism.”– Michael Parenti
“Brilliant and substantive.”– John Saxe
Fernandez, leading world authority on US
foreign policy and the oil industry
“Petras’ critique of the “soft-Left”, with its
fear to alienate wealthy and influential
Jewish supporters is a breath of fresh air...”
– Israel Shamir, Russian-Israeli intellectual,
writer and journalist
Is Israel too influential? Here is a critique,
with a chapter-by-chapter analysis and
documentation of the power of Israel via its
energetic lobby on US Middle East policy.
This book raises serious questions:
■
WITH A CHAPTER ON
THE RECENT WAR IN LEBANON
What are the results upon US policy?
What is the extent of US political, economic, diplomatic
& military support for Israel?
■ How is this support generated and consolidated?
■
Petras believes Israel, not Big Oil, is the
primary inspiration for the war against Iraq
and US threats against Iran and Syria. He
also condemns US imitation of Israeli
conduct of the war on terrorism and torture
methods, sheds light on the AIPAC spying
scandal and much, much more.

How to Keep Your Life…and

Public Information Marketplace
By The Silver Lake Editors
Personal financial data has become the most
sought-after asset in the information
economy.
Crooks want your data – but they’re not the
only ones, as Internet marketers use
personal information almost as aggressively,
but by selling their customers’ personal
information. Retailers, schools and
government agencies collect more personal
information on students – and applicants –
than they admit, and then do a sloppy job of
protecting it – and you.
What can consumers do to manage these risks?
This book has the answers. The tips in this
book will reduce the number of unwanted
phone calls, spam emails and junk mail that
the reader receives. In practical, plain English,
readers get the tools they need to keep their
private information private, including

Photographs by Derek Ridgers
“Snapshot of an era which, when it ends,
may be a very long time in returning.”
– Michelle Olley
Those who’ve seen even a fraction of Derek
Ridgers’ nightlife photos can testify to their
cultural significance. Every midnight tribe is
here – hippies, punks, ravers, goths, teddy boys,
mods and every pretty boy and dirty girl in
between, shot in situ in their un-natural habitats.
There’s also a strong showing from the sexedup, in-your-lens mischief makers who inhabit
the demimonde of fetish, fashion, sex and
glamour, in London, and around the globe.
Stare includes glamour vixens, club kids, and
raunchy low-lives for a heady mix of
reportage and eroticism.

Corridors of Nostalgia
Poetry by Cheryl Clarke
By Cheryl Clarke
“Ms. Clarke treats language with care and
concern. Her musics are various: strong,

“Cheryl Clarke’s poetry has always
touched that place in me that responds to
magic and music.”– Joy Harjo
Cheryl Clarke’s fifth collection of poetry,
and her first since 1993. Corridors of Nostalgia is a

the poet drops the anxious reader on the

With characteristic self-deprecating vigor,
Clarke drives the reader over a landscape of
remembrances and losses: the loss of pubic
hair in Bald Woman to the loss of life in New
York City on September 11, 2001, in Urban
Epitaphs.
Rich and wry with themes of the pleasures
and dangers in everyday life, this new volume
challenges, probes, and picks at the reader as
Clarke remains committed to lesbian poetics
and politics, tough and tight writing, songs
of blackness, and the complicit you-I.
Cheryl Clarke has been a poet and student of
African-American culture since 1968, when,
at Howard University, she embraced the
Civil Rights and Black Power Movements.
She is the author of four previous books of

All Blacked Out
& Nowhere to Go
By Bucky Sinister
“A modern day Bukowski with blue
hair…with a voice scraped by vociferous
spoken word performances and illicit
substances.”– SF Chronicle
“If anyone emerges as a bastard child of
when poetry was alive in San Francisco,
and resurrects it in full Exorcist splendor, it
might be Bucky Sinister.”– SF Bay Gaurdian
Bucky Sinister recounts his life through the
sound of punk rock in this loud, fast, poetic
memior. His love affair with punk comes full
circle as he learns to hate it and then learns
to love it again.
The pieces in this book take us from his
Southern roots, his brief stay in St. Louis,
and his journey to California on a quest for
punk bliss. Sinister ultimately finds himself
in Oakland, where he gets exactly what he
wants, but it almost kills him.
From recounting of specific shows to
metaphorical dreams of Abraham Lincoln to
the tragic stories of circus elephants, All
Blacked Out & Nowhere to Go mixes tragedy and
comedy into a book that’s louder and faster
than any other book of its kind.

The Art Of Sardax
By Sardax
Exciting, elegant, and very unusual
illustrations of a rich, outré universe
dominated by women.
In the world of Sartopia, men are worthless,
but not entirely useless. They can, for
instance, become sexual playthings for
women. With over 75 classic Sardax images,
beautifully reproduced with accompanying
erotic texts, this is a must-have book for
initiates.
Sardax, a London-based British artist, is a
name synonymous with the world of female
domination. As one of the most admired
and respected artists in this limited field,
Sardax names his influences as Harukawa
Namio, the Japanese illustrator specializing
in very large-bottomed women; and Eric
Stanton, the 1950s and 1960s giant of
American fetish comics.

A Taste of Venison
By Gary Baseman
“Eradicating the boundary between sick
and silly, Baseman’s paintings and
illustrations inhabit a world of cute-andcuddly depravity.”– Publishers Weekly
Baseman blurs the line between toy culture
and fine art with his iconic images, both
playful and dark.
“I ran away this spring and hid in the woods. I ran so fast
I did not look where I was going and smacked my face
right into a tree limb, Bam. I fell unconscious with my
mouth all bloody. When I awoke, I found this beautiful
wild deer girl up against my face, nose to nose, sniffing
me. She started licking my dried blood on my lips and
began healing me with her tongue. Then she proceeded to
devour me. This new collection of drawings introduces my
muse, Venison. I produced most of these drawings during
my stay in Barcelona at the Cafe Rosal. They are not
studies for future paintings but final works of art. After my
return home to Hollywood, I added several paintings of
my wild deer girl to the series.” - Gary Baseman

McDope Dealing Game
By Dave Sheridan
“With art by the late great Dave Sheridan,
this 1971 game may be the most famous
pot-related board game of all time.”
– Cannabis Culture
Indulge your youthful nostalgia and enter
the world of Dave Sheridan’s classic comic
book character, Dealer McDope, reenacting
hilarious – and possibly familiar – scenarios
with each roll of the dice.
Lots of folks reminisce today about how it all
went down in some exotic and dangerous
locale. But only one thing is for sure: McDope
went to all those places, played and panicked,
scored and whored – and now that he’s legit he
wants to pass along the way it was really done.
WHEEL, DEAL, AND KEEP IT REAL!
Leave Doobietown, USA and journey to an
intriguing port of call, score caches of weed
and return home ready to sell. Sounds
simple, and it is, as long as karma, skill, and
the roll of the dice are on your side, and you
don’t get hassled at any borders, ripped off
by your partners, or busted.

Mitch O’Connell: Tattoos
Illustrated by Mitch O’Connell
“One of the great illustrators in the
Lowbrow art scene. Cute, dangerous and
funny all at once!”– Barracuda
“Kitschy and wacky, pop cultureish and
slick, full of pin-up girls, retro Americana,
cute wide-eyed babes and traditional
tattoo images, all with a wacky sense of
humor.”– Tattoos Downunder
250 tattoo designs, the best of O’Connell’s
three sets of tattoo flash titled Stewed, Screwed
and Tattooed (2001), Done While Drunk (2002),
and From the Bottom of the Barrel (2006).
Each limited edition, now OP, set sold for
$100, and this new volume collects all of
O’Connell’s images into one big book.
Reminiscent of Old School tattoo art, from
masters such as Sailor Jerry Collins and Don
Ed Hardy, O’Connell uses more
contemporary themes with a distinctive style.
Mitch O’Connell is much-loved among his fellow
artists, for, among other attributes, arriving
in full costume and only speaking in Klingon
at his gallery openings. He lives in Chicago.

Paris Noir
The Secret History of a City
By Jacques Yonnet
Translated by Christine Donougher
“The greatest book ever written about
Paris.”– Raymond Queneau
“Among the books you must read before
you die.”– Raphael Sorin
Written during the 1940s, and originally
published in France in the 50’s and again in
the 60’s, Paris Noir reveals the darker quarters
of Paris’ Left Bank.
Yonnet describes Paris between the wars –
familiar from film noir, but now vanished. He
concentrates his talents on people, a mixture
of ordinary workers, tradesmen, artists, conmen and criminals, and invests the area with
a sense of mystery, including occasional
supernatural events.
This seminal book, often using Parisian patois
and local slang, is the perfect counterpart to
J.K.Huysmans Parisian Sketches (Dedalus,
2005), which showed the darker side of
Paris’ grand boulevards.

Grand Solo for Anton
By Herbert Rosendorfer
Translated by Mike Mitchell
“This is a tremendously inventive novel
that attempts to ask some important
questions about how Western culture has
developed.”– The Independent on Sunday
“A first-rate mind of considerable
sophistication. Dedalus is to be thanked
for introducing us to Herbert Rosendorfer.”
– Elizabeth Hawksley in The Historical Novel Review
“The author’s prose sparkles with an
idiosyncratic humour, resulting in a
charming read.”– MH in Buzz Magazine
When Anton L. wakes up one morning and
gradually discovers that he is the only person
left in the world, he accepts the situation with
greater sang froid than most.
Survival presents no great problems: he
moves into a hotel, then into the royal
palace, dining on roast venison, chocolates
and champagne. Rather a shlemiel, his
memories of people and places generally end
in minor disasters, leading to bizarre dreams
and nightmares. Discovering the remains of
people who have vaporized becomes his
passion, especially when he finds himself on
the possible trail of others secretly searching
for The Book – a tome that contains all
knowledge, a world between two covers. He
discovers it, reads it and wonders: Has the
world achieved its ultimate aim?
The amusing episodes are a gentle satire on
modern society, yet raise the ultimate
philosophical and theological questions.

The Lost Musicians
By William Heinesen
Translated by Glyn Jones
“William Heinesen’s novels are intensely
Faeroese, but so universal in their appeal
that the reader automatically surrenders to
their charm, their energy, their easy
intensity – and is overwhelmed by their
perspective.”– The Independent
Heinesen makes the everyday world of
Torshavn at the beginning of the 20th
century the stuff of Greek tragedy.
Devotion to music by a group of amateur
musicians is at the heart of this folksy, yet
universal, story. The players prevent a series
of dramatic events from turning into
horrible situations, as music enables each
musician to rise above his own bleak
existence.
NEW TRANSLATION OF A 20TH
CENTURY SCANDINAVIAN MASTERPIECE
There is humor, also, in the satirical, largerthan-life portrayal of the local sectarians, led
by the bank manager Ankersen, as they seek
in vain to break the spirits of the quartet
members, as well as earthy amusement in the
huge blacksmith completely at the mercy of
his petty-minded wife.
(1900-1991) was born in
the Faroe Islands. Internationally-known as
a poet and a novelist, he made his living as
an artist. He published The Black Cauldron in
1949, with a Dedalus translation 1992.

Gabriel’s Bureau
By Mikka Haugaard
“…a deliciously twisted tale of darkness,
espionage and murder. A gripping read,
with an edginess so often hard to find in a
debut novel.”– BJ in Buzz Magazine
“Haugaard has a vivid and quirky
imagination.”– S.B.Kelly in Scotland on Sunday
“A talented and really interesting writer.”
– Jill Paton Walsh
Being a spy might have its perks, but there’s
an all-consuming pressure to the job, as well
as the great danger that follows from
knowing a little bit too much.
Having previously worked for Soviet
intelligence, Gabriel uses his contacts to set
up his own detective agency, Gabriel’s
Bureau. When a past acquaintance seeks his
help, he agrees, but the consequences
quickly careen out of control.
In the seedy London underworld of art
dealings, he learns power is money and
death is inevitable when art changes from
hand to dirty hand. As he is inexorably
drawn down to the awful truth, the mystery
turns back on him, bringing together his
past, his present and his intriguing
relationship with his wife and the mystery
Russian, Oleg.

Wolf at the Door
By Travis Jeppesen
“Jeppesen has a gift for balancing
accessibility with lyricism, and the laconic
speech of teenagers with philosophical
density.”– Punk Planet Magazine
“The most exciting first novel I’ve read in
a decade or more. This is a brilliant,
haunting, and, strangest of all, very funny
novel.”– Dennis Cooper
An absurdist drama of seemingly banal
interactions via two parallel stories that never
directly intersect, but hover interdependently
in a polluted atmospheric stasis.
A sculptor dying of a mysterious illness
leaves the city to live out his final days in
solitude in an Eastern Europe village. His
sole contact is with a deaf-mute, golem-like
gravedigger named Vojtech, who delivers his
provisions while a nameless wanderer
traverses the barren streets in search of prey.
Rife with ghosts and illusions perdues, at times
violent and scatological, Wolf at the Door
confronts fear and devastation, destruction
and creation, the decay of both spirit and body
with a blend of black humor and linguistic
inventiveness that dares to question what
happens after the end of both art and life.
INTENSE, STARTLING FICTION
FROM THE OFF-BEAT GENERATION
Wolf at the Door
was born in 1979 in Fort
Lauderdale, Florida. After studying literature
and philosophy at the New School for Social
Research, he wrote Victims (Akashic, 2003),
and a collection of poetry, Poems I Wrote While
Watching TV. He writes about contemporary art
and culture for the New York Press, Pavement,
Bookforum and other journals, and divides his
time between Berlin and Prague.

The Main Point
The Life and Work
of a Porno Film Maker
By Bruno Phillips
“A sexual biography like none I’ve ever
encountered. At times it reads like Elmore
Leonard just met Henry Miller.”
– Oliver Maitland
The fictional account of Bernd Töst and his
career as a porn-movie auteur is as colorful
and strange as any in the history of
pornography.
When the subject of porn came out of smoky
stag backrooms, the world was still in the
grip of post-war austerity. Töst’s
extraordinary and original outlook on the
pornography industry influenced the sexual
revolution of the 1960s.
AN EROTIC MOCK BIOGRAPHY AND
EXPOSÉ OF THE EARLY PORN INDUSTRY
He was one of the few people to make sense
of his era’s cultural and moral chaos, and
this mock biography is the most fascinating
exposé of the early porn industry and its
players since Boogie Nights.
Bruno Phillips, of Anglo-Russian descent,
began his career as a psychiatric nurse before
working in advertising and PR. He lives in
London.

Marthe
The Story of a Whore
By Joris-Karl Huysmans
Translated by Brendan King
“Filled with extravagant obscenities, his
books were considered an outrage against
public morals, but are now compared to
those of Baudelaire, Rimbaud, and
Wilde.”– Suzy Macguire in The Herald
“Huysmans was obsessed by the idea of
the beauty-within-ugliness of back-street
Paris. He believed that the distortions of
depravity there presented a truer picture of
our spiritual nature than conventional
religion or revolutionary excess.”
– Murrough O’Brien in
The Independent on Sunday
Capturing the lively linguistic inventiveness
of the original, this fresh telling also includes
an introduction and comprehensive notes.
First published in 1876, Marthe was a landmark
in J.K. Huysmans’s career, his first book, and
also one of the first French novels to directly
address the subject of prostitution, later a
central theme for many novelists, painters and
poets in France and throughout Europe.
FIRST NEW TRANSLATION IN 50 YEARS
Set in the demi-monde of the Parisian music
hall, the story centers on a would-be actress
who works in one of the lowest dives in Paris.
She tells the story of her brief, doomed
relationship with Léo, a romantic searching
for a substitute for his lost illusions.

The Story of a Whore

is considered one of the
classic descriptors of Parisian life. His novel
about Satanism, La-Bas (1891) was the cult
novel of the nineteenth century.
