Hi, here are a couple of the more interesting photos taken during activities of the past two months:
The photos were taken, of course, by Stan Berger. The top one, taken at the club picnic, shows the group
sending a Get Well wish to Walt Bayconich who had undergone some serious surgery. He also received a
fruit basket from the club. The bottom remarkable pic catches the moment when two models at the electric
fly-in collided with both shedding their canopies. A great piece of photography.

My apologies for not producing a newsletter last month, but issues relating to the passing of my wife
temporarily knocked me out of the box. In this issue we’ll try to cover what was missed during that time.

NEXT MEETING – Will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 7:30 PM at Croydon Hall in Leonardo since
Red Bank High School is not available to us during the summer months. The meeting will include the
usual Model of the Month competition and monthly raffle.

MAY MEETING NOTES
MODEL OF THE MONTH
Berger Photos
Around 35 members attended and there was a good
turnout for electric flying in the field house afterwards.
# Prez Stan Berger told of his trip to attend the
annual Joe Nall fly-in down in North Carolina. A
whopping 954 pilots turned out for the event and Stan
took a great many photos. He made up a video and put
it on You Tube.
# There was a review of coming events including
the Musical Chairs fun fly (Stu Katz), the Warbirds
over Dorbrook (Bob Kiebley), the Electric Fly-In (Rob
Kallok) and the annual club picnic.
# We will resume Model Aviation classes starting
on September 14 and running for 5 weeks. Volunteers
will be needed for this.
1st Place – John Tomaino. kit built Piper Cub with OS
.56 4 stroke engine
# It was noted that member Dick Sarpolus was on
the cover of Model Aviation magazine. Like the
Energizer Bunny, Dick just keeps on going.
2nd Place – Gary Swist, Great Planes Tiger Moth ARF,
OS 1.20 4 stroke engine.
Bob Salamone won the raffle prize, a Magnum .52
engine.
3rd Place – Robert White, Old timer, .25 engine
Electric pilots had lots of fun.

JUNE MEETING NOTES
MODEL OF THE MONTH
Berger photos
Thirty members attended.
# It was announced that since Red Bank High
School would not be available for the summer months
our next two meetings will be held at Croydon Hall the
same as last year.
# Our search for an alternative venue for the
annual club dinner proved to be too expensive, so we
will again hold the event at Jumping Brook Country
club.
# Coming events were again reviewed, including
the Warbirds at Dorbrook fly-in, the annual family
picnic, our display at the Monmouth County Fair, the
electric fly-in and the Limbo fun fly. Limbo CD Adam
Lilley noted that planes participating in the event were
required to have a landing gear.
1st Place- Bill Bender, repaired and recovered Slow Poke
with Thunder Tiger .45 engine.
# Shabby and temporary frequency clips are being
used too often at the field. Proper clips should be of
firm material 6 by 6 inches square, have a white
background with black letters at least 3 inches high
and show the pilot’s name.
2nd Place – Tim Cohen, recovered Royal 42 Trainer,
Super Tigre.40 engine.
Stan Berger won the monthly raffle prize, a World
models Super Stunts ARF kit.
3rd Place - Gary Swist II, Panic ARF biplane, OS.61
engine.

May 23 Musical Chairs Fun Fly
Stu Katz served as contest director of the event which was his brain child of
several years ago and has become a popular annual contest. A good turnout of a
dozen pilots tried their hands in the competition with Rob Kallok finishing on top.
This a fun event where pilots land and try to get their plane on an empty chair before
others do. It makes for an enjoyable scene with all the scurrying around, and a
safe one with little damage to planes. Bob Landis helped run the contest, Mark
Nettleingham provided the refreshments and Stu doled out prizes by luck of the draw.

June 26 Warbirds Over Dorbrook
Bob Keibley dreamed up this event as kind of a miniaturized version of the big, well known event held each year
down in Delaware. And being an avowed aficionado of Warbirds he hoped that others might become more
interested in building and flying this type of plane. His event was simply a fly-in with no entry fee, no rules, no
competition, no prizes, and no hamburgers or hot dogs (he provided sub sandwiches instead). The event was
success with a dozen members who showed up to have relaxed fun flying their military type model planes. About
the only thing wrong was the terrific heat and humidity that kept everyone in the shade of trees when not flying.
Bob was pleased with the results and hopes to make it bigger and better next year

June 27 Club Family Picnic
When working up this year’s calendar of events our exec board decided that August weather was always too hot for
a picnic, so they moved the event two months earlier to get a cooler day. So they guessed wrong, putting the picnic
right in the middle of the worst hot spell in decades. Regardless, more than 35 members and guests showed up to
enjoy the usual picnic food and spend a relaxing afternoon, staying almost exclusively in the tree shaded area. Gary
Swist II helped to cool people off by providing some delicious Italian ices. The traditional horseshoe contest was
won this year by Lee Stab. Frank Beshears and Darryl Schlosser cooked in Mark Nettleingham’s absence.

Seventh Annual Norm Hils Memorial All Electric Fly-In
To say that event director Rob Kallok was well pleased with how good our AMA Sanctioned all electric fly-in
turned out this year would be an understatement. Everything turned out just about perfectly. The flying weather
could hardly have been better. A record breaking registration of 35 participants showed up bringing well over 100
planes to fly. This included a significant number of out of state pilots, most of which said that they enjoyed flying at
Dorbrook so much that they would return next year. In fact, many of these had so much fun flying there that he had
trouble putting a stop to it. Finally, he had to literally chase them out of the place at 6:30 PM so he could close up
shop and to go home for some well earned rest. Looks like the event has a bright future.

Despite the continuing record setting heat and humidity we had a very good turnout for Adam Lilley’s RC Limbo
contest. The idea was to simply fly your plane beneath a crepe paper ribbon which gets lowered for each of the
three rounds. This was a fast moving, exciting event with occasional wing crunching against the poles to liven
things up. The wreckage is displayed in the above photo, but most of it is repairable. Regardless, the contestants
had a lot of fun. Dave Mauger helped Adam with the scoring, Mark Nettlingham provided the eats and Stu Katz put
out the prizes awarded by luck of the draw.

My thanks to the club for the beautiful flowers and to those members who sent sympathy cards, visited the Wake, or
personally gave me their condolences on the loss of my wife Phyllis. It wasn’t easy to lose my companion and helpmate
of 65 years, but your kind thoughts helped a lot.
Thanks to all, Ed Runkel
