WHITEFISH MOOSE NEWS NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2014 Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #642 | Women of the Moose Chapter #597 Whitefish, Montana Moose International Hosts Karaoke Step up to the mike, Moose members, and prepare your best Karaoke performances and a trip to The Music City could be yours! For the first time, the Moose is sponsoring a Karaoke competition, culminating with the finals at the 2015 International Convention in Nashville. “The whole program is exciting from beginning to end,” Director of Activities Shawn Baile said. “It gets the Lodge involved and it gets the Association involved. If there’s a need for a District competition, it gets the District involved too.” The search for the 12 finalists begins with Lodge competition and continues with Association competition, which will take place at each Association’s Mid-Year Conference. From that pool of champions, the finalists will be selected, and each will receive a free trip to the International Convention where they will compete before a select panel of judges. “This could become a staple for those who attend Conventions to enjoy for years to come,” Baile said. “It’s a free night of entertainment for the Convention attendees and it puts our 12 finalists on a pretty grand stage and in an environ- ment I’m sure they never envisioned when they walked up to the microphone to do Karaoke in their Lodge.” Baile said he’s personally looking forward to the variety in musical choices made by the finalists, both in the Mid-Year competitions but also in the finals. “Variety is a part of it,” Baile said. “I don’t envision us saying we’re going to have a Country competition or a ‘50s competition. The finalists are going to pick music they’re fond of. That might put a little pressure on the judges, but I’m sure they’ll be look at each performance objectively.” For more information, visit www.mooseintl.org. Notes from our Leadership LOOM #642 | WOTM #597 Administrator Message Senior Regent Says We will begin running some raffles to try and raise additional money to help with keeping our Lodge running. The first one you will see will be for a rifle at $10 per ticket and the drawing for this gun will be Dec. 15, 2014. It is a Henry .22 Caliber Lever Action Octagon Rifle, Frontier Model. This would be a great Christmas gift for your child or grandchild that has an interest in shooting or if you want them to become familiar with a firearm. Greetings All- Please come down and support the meals, Bingo and other things that are happening at the Lodge. We are seeing good turnouts for Monday night burgers and the WOTM is getting good response on their meals that they do once a month, but Bingo is still suffering and we are not seeing enough support for that function. We could also use some more Bingo callers. The current ones are getting a little burnt out. We still need an administrator that can dedicate more time to the Lodge than I can. If there is someone out there that is good with computers, has a mind for business, is a strong fraternalist and can dedicate at least 20 hours a week to the Lodge, please contact me. You can contact myself or the Lodge at 406.862.2669, lodge642@mooseunits.org or WhitefishMooseLodge@gmail.com. Mike Larkey Administrator Sorry if we missed you at the Hobo Dinner or Spookfest — We sure had fun! It was good to have so many members and guests there with us. It is always great to see old friends and family have so much fun together; chatting, reminiscing, and making future plans. We are going strong and going to get stronger. I would like to thank ALL the volunteers for their assistance with all our projects, activities, and meals. Without this help and participation we would not be moving forward. We are all looking forward to the Chili Cookoff in November and Poor Man’s Pleasure (Christmas) Dinner in December. Let’s make these a true family, united group and Lodge event! Thank you also to the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #642 … You have some pretty terrific volunteers and supporters too! The Women of the Moose have many, many more surprises coming your way! Please be a participant with all the Moose Lodge functions. This is what working together can achieve. Let’s blow the rest of this year off the charts! Memberships will increase if current members are happy — And if we all work as one, this can be done! Enter the raffle at the Moose Lodge for a chance to win this Henry .22 Caliber Lever Action Octagon Rifle, Frontier Model. Drawing will be held Monday, Dec. 15. We can grow, we ARE growing. Let’s be the TOP! Carol Ott Senior Regent Check us out online for up-to-the-minute event updates, photos, and other Moose fun. Lodge642.moosepages.org | www.facebook.com/WhitefishMooseLodge Notes from our Leadership LOOM #642 | WOTM #597 From Montana’s Deputy Grand Regent final stretch to get the New School paid for. These fall Conventions should help with the Moose Charities Activities. Also Mooseheart announced that anyone will be able to see the Ramblers play football and many other sports and activities Thanks Conrad! Conrad was the hostess Chapter this year on the computer. To view these go to highschoolcube.com. for the MTMA Annual Convention and did a fine job. Molly Type “Mooseheart” into the cube and click on GO. Brown was the Official Visitor and had a lot of new good information. Gladys Armstrong was the presiding Deputy I appreciate the opportunity to be your new Deputy Grand Grand and was so gracious. Regent and hope I can fill Gladys’ shoes, but not her cast! Molly Brown, our official visitor explained the new general changes to the rules. If you weren’t there you missed a good time and a lot of good information. She was “Ma’am, yes ma’am!” Congratulations to Libby Upham from Cut Bank and Michelle Lebrun from Helena as new Green Caps. Each of us know how much effort it takes a Senior Regent and Chapter to make that happen. We know they will go on to make their College of Regents Degree! Also Betty Harris received her College of Regents Degree and Jo Williams her Star Recorder Degree, as they were not able to go to National Convention. Congratulations to them both on a job well done. Thanks to everyone. Pat Gilbertson Montana Deputy Grant Regent 2014-2015 ——————————————————————————— Recorder Notes Happy Holidays! As you begin planning your holiday gatherings and searching for the perfect gifts for friends and family, don’t forget about your Moose family — Both here at the Whitefish Moose Lodge and of course our kids at Mooseheart and seniors at Moosehaven. We have many local members who are alone or sick for the holidays and need us to reach out to them. It can be as simple as making a phone call or sending a card. There was a great competition between our Montana Moose Charities Chairmen Gary Coen and Stefanie Johnson for pocket change, the “Change Challenge.” It was an ice bucket challenge: Whoever raised the most change for Moose Charities got to pour a bucket of ice water on the opponent. When it was discovered they were both too creative (they cheated), This year our Chapter will also be sponsoring a local family in they both got ice water poured on them. But they raised more need, providing food, clothing, and Christmas presents. The Lodge is once again a drop-off point for Toys for Tots as well. than $800 for Moose Charities. Good job Gary and Stef! Help us spread the holiday cheer in our community! We are in our fall quarter of gathering new members and we, in Montana would like to have more members than when we began in last April. Put on your thinking caps to recruit new members as well as retaining old members. Perhaps they have decided not to pay their dues, because no has asked them or contacted them. PLEASE: a phone call or a letter would do a world of good to bring them back into the fold. You can now re-enroll after just 6 months. We can also cross-sponsor. Help your Chapter and Lodge by inviting friends and family to join! The Mooseheart School is 75% paid for and they are in the We also have a Sunshine Child and Sunshine Grandparent at Mooseheart and Moosehaven who would love to hear from you. You can find their information on the Women of the Moose bulletin board at the Lodge. Lastly, please consider making a donation to Moose Charities or to the local Chapter or Lodge. Our Fraternity, our kids and seniors, depend on your continued support.
