The Force Commander prepared to conquer his target.
He did not worry. He had more soldiers than the enemy. The men were all motivated, wellprepared and were better equipped than the enemy.
“Forward,” he cried as he charged full speed ahead. Bullets were whistling all around him as he
suddenly halted in his tracks. Wait a minute....he turned around and saw that none of his men
had followed his lead. He was tricked!
Dear Congregation, that is how the Cantor feels when we do not join in the singing or respond
with an amen at the end.
Don’t leave him hanging there :(
We are all encouraged to participate......
Please check the page below on the Beth’s new website to help you prepare for the HIgh Holy
Days.

president’s
message
Rosh Hashanah is the first of the High Holidays and the beginning of a new year.
As the Congregation celebrates 125 years of organized Jewish life in Halifax, we reflect on the
blessings we currently enjoy and look toward the future. We are fortunate to have a wonderful
Rabbi, a great Cantor for the High Holidays and a dedicated staff and Board.
Our facilities, including the Synagogue, were built with a vision that our previous generations
wanted to leave as a legacy. Visitors throughout the year are truly grateful and enjoy the welcome
and warmth of our Congregation.
We face many challenges in maintaining traditional Orthodox practices in a secular world with
competing activities and interests, as we continue to fulfill the demands placed upon us to meet
the growing needs of the Community with diminished resources.
Our strength may not be in numbers but in the quality and commitment of our members. It is the
dedication and love of our Congregation by its members that insure our vitality for the future as
we go forth into the next decade.
Shanah Tova. May you be inscribed for a Good Year.
Steven G. Zatzman

To Edgar Wolman
who is retiring after 12++years of preparing yahrzeit notices.
In a finesse move to the Shul’s Board, Edgar made a bid to resign
from this position.
“I truly hope we can bridge the gap and find a new volunteer to lead
this project,” he said. The Beth Israel extends heartfelt thanks to
Edgar, also a long-time Cemetery Committee Chair, for his
dedication to the membership.
Thank You Edgar!
P.S. Edgar, we are happy to report we’ve made a grand slam with the
volunteer who will take over from you. This singleton is a defender
of tradition and will try to live up to your pattern of excellence!
(For anyone who is wondering, the bridge terminology is in homage to Edgar, who has a passion for the game)
