Congratulations to Fr. Sherry on his 50th Anniversary as a priest! As always, he does not look old enough to be a priest that long, but he is. Holy Apostles is blessed that he has spent almost half of his priesthood here. I remember meeting him in the winter of 1982, in Aurora, when he was Vocations Director. He then moved that summer to Washington DC, to become Executive Director of the Bishops Committee on Vocations, until he came here to start Holy Apostles in 1989. I was ordained and stationed in Algonquin in 1989. I remember saying my first Mass in Rockford and Fr. Sherry was right next to me holding my hand during the Lord’s Prayer. I also remember doing a few Saturday night Masses in Tonyan Cathedral to help him and being invited to his 50th birthday party. The parish brought his mom in for a surprise. Fifty years is a wonderful milestone! I hope you all enjoy celebrating with Fr. Sherry this weekend. I know he is excited to be with you and of course, have a few chocolate-covered donuts from Riverside Bakery. I have come to realize this to be his favorite food in the world. Have a Blessed Weekend! Fr. Paul Please make your pledge to the 2016 Diocesan Appeal TODAY! Use the envelopes available at the Information Center On-line through GiveCentral.org. or rockforddiocese.org.
