CHELMSFORD Friday, June 7, 2013 Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder in Adults: A Cognitive-Behavioral Approach Peter Moran, Ph.D., M.S. Obsessive-compulsive Disorder (OCD) can be successfully treated with the disorder-specific cognitive treatment strategies alone and combined with psychopharmacological intervention. Cognitive Behavioral Treatment strategies will be presented focusing on specific interventions for obsessions and compulsions. Medications and symptom indications and treatments will be reviewed through case studies. Friday, July 12, 2013 Creating Supports for Children and Families Coping with Domestic Violence Stephanie Howard, Ph.D. In this workshop participants will explore the dynamics of domestic violence, first from the point of view of the adults and then through the eyes of the children. Multiple modes of intervention for children and families, highlighting the specific safety risks and challenges of working with domestic violence will be explored. Friday, July 26, 2013 Practical Tools for Helping Couples Navigate Relationship Change Ryan Plosker, M.S., CAGS, Ed.D. & Kelly Plosker, M.S.W., LCSW One of the greatest challenges in relationships is change. Couples and individuals go through continuous change throughout their years and often times, it is the greatest source of conflict. In this seminar, clinicians will learn clinical tools to implement in couples counseling to help couples move through struggles and feel successful in their relationship. Friday, August 16, 2013 Anxiety Disorders in Children & Adolescents: Recognizing and Treating the Emerging Epidemic Paul Foxman, Ph.D. In this workshop participants will grasp how anxiety develops in children and adolescents, and acquire practical treatment strategies that can be applied immediately in their professional work. Seven key anxiety disorders will be addressed: separation anxiety disorder, panic disorder, overanxious disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, social anxiety disorder, phobias, and posttraumatic stress disorder. FOXBOROUGH Friday, March 8, 2013 Boundary Issues and Dual Relationships in Social Work: Ethical and Risk Management Challenges Frederic Reamer, Ph.D. This workshop will provide participants with a comprehensive overview of boundary issues and dual relationships that arise in social service and clinical settings. Using extensive case material, the instructor will acquaint participants with a typology of boundary issues. Participants will learn how to identify and respond constructively to complex boundary issues, protect clients, prevent professional malpractice, and avoid liability. Clinical work with adolescents presents many challenges for clinicians and demands flexible and creative approaches. This workshop provides participants with new tools for creating a healing therapeutic relationship, developing healthy coping skills and improving treatment outcomes. Friday, August 9, 2013 Don’t Take the Bait:Working with Reluctant Clients Compassion Fatigue and the Art of Chronic Self-Care Linda T. (Lynn) Sanford, LICSW The morning session will focus on the dynamics of projective identification as well as ten self-care guidelines for the voluntary worker engaged in a dance with the involuntary client. In the afternoon, participants will explore the highly individual ways that the work effects us as well as offering several strategies for chronic self-care. STURBRIDGE Friday, April 26, 2013 Leave Me Alone…Please Help Me: Helping Youth with Anger Management Concerns Daniel B. Jacobs, Ed.M., M.B.A., Psy.D. Children exposed to significant trauma or neglect often also develop communication and behavioral styles based on anger and rage. They commonly express themselves in negative and self-destructive ways. This workshop will focus on proactive and practical strategies useful in handling the challenging behaviors most often exhibited by youth dealing with anger management issues. Thursday, June 13, 2013 Hoarding: Behind the Scenes Andrea Kelley, M.S.W. An evidence-based model for understanding hoarding beliefs and behaviors will be presented along with direct implications for treatment. Intervention strategies presented will include establishing goals for treatment, increasing organizing and problem solving skills and correcting problematic beliefs about possessions. Group treatment, web-based therapy in the home, roles for family members and “coaches,” and community interventions for nonvoluntary clients will be described.
