ISSUE # 1 2012 Harrisburg, PA NORTH EXPO HALL ROD and CUSTOM and TUNERWAR SHOWCASE 32 Ford 3 Window Coupe “Predator” owned by Fred Diehl T he theme of this year’s 34th Annual Motorama Events held at the NORTH EXPO HALL in Harrisburg, PA on Feb. 18th & 19th was “Dreams”. The dreams of boys & girls and men & women. Nostalgic dreams of simpler times and magic moments embodied in the car culture of yesteryear and fulfilled today with a mix of past concepts and modern technology bringing life, enthusiasm and excitement to this year’s Rod, Custom & Tuner Show event. the significance of the show’s theme, “each year we try to deliver a grand front entrance way display which gives meaning and life to the event. This year’s theme is all about dreams. Thirty-four years ago Motorama was a dream that belonged to Mr. Armin Hostetter. Today each and every one participating within Motorama is following their dreams while helping to fulfill Armin’s. “. There were many dream cars on display, from “Shades of Love” a sweet ’56 Chevy with all the “bells & whistles” built in tribute to one man’s father to the resurrection of “Joanne’s Dream” rescued and restored to life; a one off custom Olds from the 60’s. There were shiny survivors and new twists on old ideas like the ’36 Ford “Lemoncello”. In addition to the cars there were radical custom bikes to the traditional restored. Plus the new breed of rat rods and bikes showing daring metal work and extreme chops like the guys from “Strictly Chopped”. I caught up with Swish, the shows producer and in his 4th year hosting the event. I’ve known Swish for more than 20 years when he used to show his ’57 Chevy Hardtop, a sweepstakes winner and one of the nicest cars I’ve ever seen. There was something for everyone in addition to the fantastic cars & bikes, the show included model car racing complete with jumps (serious stuff ), hot models (girls!), cool art & talent. HR&HM 35 2012 Harrisburg, PA Brad Baumgardner 51 Merc Convertible “Lemoncello” Bill Raso’s 36 Ford “Joanne’s Dream” This year’s theme display positioned at the entrance and offered by Mr. & Mrs. John Robertson of Northern Virginia., as explained by Swish, showcased “a scene from the 1960’s with Little Jo and Little Johnny Jr. working on their 1923 motorized wagon, the “Wagen Meister”, while staring at an original 1960’s dragster called “Sudden Spurts”(above). They are dreaming of the day they will grow up and be able to go to the drags and participate in car shows with their own vehicle.
