Executive Director’s Message
Well, the holiday season is already upon us! With November comes thoughts of holiday and Thanksgiving celebrations and gatherings with family and friends. With Ocean City and the surrounding region becoming more
and more of a year rounds destination, this is a prime opportunity to promote seasonal deals and specials to our
guests that come to enjoy the fall and winter beauty that our region has to offer. In addition, the award winning
Winterfest of lights draws thousands through this season, starting in Mid-November. With Winterfest comes an
opportunity to sponsor one of the town’s festival of trees as well as being a part of Chamber Lights- our holiday
decoration contest. Chamber Lights is free for all members and residents to be a part of and show off your holiday spirit. Awards will be presented at the January Business after Hours at BJs on the Water. There are a number of categories to participate in such as Indoor, Outdoor, Hotel, Restaurant and Retail businesses, so be sure
to register today! We also invite you to join us on November 5 th for our Business After Hours at OC Brewing
Company- all are welcome for a great night of great food, friends and networking!
The Ocean City Chamber Foundation is accepting applications for our 2016 Eunice Q. Sorin Scholarship. There are separate
applications for graduating seniors and new this year an application for our Workforce Scholarship for those currently employed looking to upgrade their skills! The application deadline is February 1 st, so please feel free to forward to your employees
and family members that may qualify https://occhamberfoundation.org/scholarship/
We also ask you to mark your calendars for the 2016 Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast. Anyone that had ever attended the annual
Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast in Ocean City were saddened when after 25 years Bruce Spangler announced that he would be retiring from organizing the event. This event has been such an inspiration and uplifting morning, where the entire community
would come together- including our local citizens, community leaders, elected officials, church congregations, local police and
fire departments, the business community, the Board of education, educators and school representatives and nonprofit organizers. It truly is the only event that spans the entire breadth of our community. Many members of the community thought it would
be a shame not to continue this community tradition. So after several requests from past participants and supporters of the
event, the Greater Ocean City Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Ocean Pines Chamber, Berlin Chamber, Snow
Hill Chamber and Pocomoke Chamber decided to make sure the treasured annual event would live on. Chambers of commerce
are conveners in the community, bringing people and businesses together, so it seemed like a perfect fit for our community
chambers of commerce to continue the tradition.
The Chambers are thrilled to announce the Annual Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast will be held on Friday, January 15 th 2016 and are
also very excited to introduce Mark Mero as the Key Note speaker for the event.
From his early days growing up in a single-parent home in Buffalo, NY, Marc dreamed big and set lofty goals. Despite many
obstacles, Marc found success with hockey, football and boxing and then achieved fame in wrestling. During the event we will be
taken on a journey through Marc’s life that will make us laugh and cry- and prompt us to examine our own choices.
As author of the book, “How to be the Happiest Person on the Planet,” Marc’s presentation weaves his incredible personal story
among practical tips for achieving one’s highest potential in life. People are inspired to find joy as they cherish every moment,
value relationships, dream big and commit to making a positive difference in their personal life, career, and community. Having
spoken at more than 700 events, Marc is a polished speaker and seasoned professional and has made appearances on several national TV shows including Glenn Beck, Nancy Grace and Montel Williams, as well as “Joy in our Town”, “The Good Life”, and
“Making a Difference.”
The 2016 Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast will be held on Friday January 15 th at 7am at the Clarion Fontainebleau 101st Street Coastal
Highway Ocean City, MD. Tickets are $20 per person and table sponsorships are available. Tickets may be purchased online at
www.oceancity.org, or at the Visitors Center.

Ocean City Clean Sweep –
Volunteers Needed
On Saturday, November 14th, from 10:00 am to noon, the
Ocean City Development Corporation (OCDC) and its CleanUp Committee will be holding its 3rd annual “Ocean City
Clean Sweep” to pick up litter and debris scattered around
downtown Ocean City between the Inlet and 17th Street. The
OCDC is requesting volunteers, business groups, and schools
to volunteer for this year’s Clean Sweep. The OCDC is a nonprofit organization charged with revitalizing downtown
Ocean City. Last year’s event was a success and resulted in
many trash bags being filled.
Volunteers will walk the streets of downtown Ocean City
picking up trash, litter, and cigarette butts left over from this
summer. Gloves, rakes, and trash bags will be provided.
The Town of Ocean City will provide the dumpster.
All participants will receive a free shirt. A lunch will be provided to volunteers. The base and meeting location for the
clean-up event will be the OCDC office at
108 Dorchester Street in downtown Ocean City.
If interested in volunteering please contact the OCDC at
(410) 289-7739.
